1. I've been away from playing live for about 5 years now and space dictated me selling my old cab and head (SWR triad and SWR head). I've been hiring setups at the local rehearsal space and Ive had use of orange bass terrors and other heads but what I've really enjoyed playing through has been an old Peavey nitrobass head - its like I'm hearing what I've always wanted! not sure I want to buy one though as it weighs too much!
2. I watched the performance yesterday. I quite enjoyed it. I've kind of avoided popular culture for the last few years due to having a kid and work- no radio 1, commercial radio and very little tv etc. so thought Bruno Mars and Olly Muirs were the same person!
I saw them headline Reading in 1999... although I was on mushrooms so don't remember if they were any good...
I was there also though not on mushrooms. They were very good.
3. My mac is almost 4 years old and has the separate input. I record quite a lot without any latency issues without an interface.. I thought the whole point of garage band was to just plug in and play! Very disapointing to think you have to fork out even more cash.
4. My lady bought an acoustic from gak for me for my birthday and it was a lemon. Frets were rusty, mucky fretboard, dodgy action, old strings , dings bad finish etc. We complained and they sent another whilst taking the other one away. I'm still very happy with it. (I've bought stuff from them previously and have always been happy)
5. I was just reading about this on facebook. Heard him play lots of times with this gear. Very sad!
6.
Number one would be Jean-Paul from Clutch, so much groove and feel, but still rocks it.
+1 to mr jean paul gaster. he'd be on the list for me also. I'd love to have a bash with seb rochford from polar bear and glenn kotche from wilco. Both add so much to whoever they play with yet totally complement them.
7. I don't own any of their albums but own all the singles from six . I was talking about them the other week with my lady and we watched a load of their videos. See if you can spot danny dyer in the "being a girl" video! Really loved the joy formidable song Paul Draper featured on. 8.
Sounds good but look at this. I mean, it's beyond porn. Edit:- I can recommend UK based Mojo pickups but they're not especially cheap. I got mine for a bargain price before he got up and running and was trying to get his name out there. If you want my old MIJ pickups to get them rewound (they're not great stock to be honest) I'd be happy to let them go. Get a Mustang bridge as the JM screw style is terrible. I considered some metal grommets around the bridge arms to keep the whole thing steady but have no accurate measuring tools to order some so again, never got round to it.
I'd reccomend the bridge on that one! tis a mastery (as reccomended by many pros- check their website) but alas a bit pricey. Mustang one is fine but I find it a little awkward to adjust and get it right. I've had an AVRI 62 jazzmaster for over 10 years now. I've always been scared to gig it due to the nitro finish so a squier would be ideal to knock around with. Nice to see offset bodies readily in the uk these days that are affordable. I'm sure you might have seen other people are members of the offsetguitars forum. brilliant resource for pup choices etc. if you havent been there!
9. Had a chance to buy a jap one a few years back previous to them reissuing their reissues - So glad I didn't bite the bullet as it was so costly due to it being a rarity. Now I have a choice. I think I'd like a white one and consider getting it painted surf green with matching headstock
10.
I don't know who anton Newcombe is , but after that remark I know what he is and that's a first class ****.
The guy is pretty mad but fascinating to watch ... he's a walking talking advert why abusing drugs and alcohol is a no no. managed to see his band live a few years back and it was pretty full on. I'd reccomend the Dig doc to everyone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWK29MmRxTo
11.
Did Clutch ever play without them when they came to Wales? It always amused me how Taint played one of Clutch's most famous songs when they were the support...
bit of a late reply but yes! clutch did a co headline with corrosion of conformity at the coal exchange and taint didnt play. (I think it was corrosion... walked out after 3 songs as they were awful)
12. I hate this with a passion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dckdQHuDdcw
13. The team I work with interviewed him for a doc that will come out next year. Very sad. I'll always remember this clip of Ray with Adam and Joe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaVeeIuIMk0
14. Looks gorgeous! Some great work there
15. Love his playing on the masters of reality album. Here's a song with him telling America how to make a cup of tea. https://www.youtube....h?v=DTuXBoA688Y <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/DTuXBoA688Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
16. It transpires the whole evening's output is BBC Wales! I'd really reccomend the Bowie doc on after Nile. 1915 Mahler's 1st Symphony with Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01174dh 2100 Nile Rodgers: The Hitmaker http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01rk2tm 2200 David Bowie & the story of Ziggy Stardust http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01k0y0n 2300 The Genius of David Bowie http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01k0y0q
17.
Bobby Womack's book (available on Kindle) is a total car crash as is soul legend Bettye Lavette's which starts from her being dangled out a building by her ankles by per pimp before picking UP the pace - essential stuff! Makes those bad boy rockers look like The Waltons!
The first few pages about Bobby with his stepdaughter were just crazy. There's a bbc4 doc on him coming out soon.
18.
The single best music bio I've read is "Things The Grandchildren Should Know" by Mark Oliver Everett ("E" from Eels). Astoundingly good. The second best music bio I've read is "Le Freak: An Upside Down Story of Family, Disco and Destiny" by Nile Rodgers. Also astoundingly good. Another brilliant music book which is almost a biography is 45 by Bill Drummond.
I refer to your post: 1.Been meaning to get Mr E's book for years! Glad its worth getting. 2.http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p016r4vs 3. Absolutely love Bill Drummonds book http://www.bbc.co.uk...rammes/p016r4vs
19. Hey people. Next Friday is good friday. I've dubbed it good times Friday (geddit?) An excellent doc on Nile Rodgers is on BBC 4 at 9pm March 29th. Beautifully shot and a great story squeezed into 1 hour. There's a short clip on the programme page if ya fancy seeing it. some nice bits on Bernard also. http://www.bbc.co.uk...rammes/p016r4vs
20. I had no idea it was the guy from madness on bass.I love songs like this. Social history at its finest. The war is long gone but those lyrics resonate and give a snapshot of that period in time. (I'm now 31, discovered this song about 12 years ago on a rough trade compilation and it still gives me goosbumps)
21. old: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHaF8dXhz2Q New: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQz-lG8AZp8 both have lots of dreamy repetition. I could listen to these two on loop all day
22.
Never listened to Soft Machine or Kevin Ayres but I know he/they were an influence on Gorky's Zygotic Mynci (one of my favourite bands in my yoof). Might have to have a delve into their back catalogue...
I discovered the wonders of Kevin Ayers and soft machine through the gorkys also (one of my favourite bands in my yoof as well- still are- named my son Euros!) big fan of the unfairground album from a few years back...
23. ooh!! gorgeous especially with block and bound neck. And a mastery bridge! let me know if you'd be thinking about selling that separately.
24. its done the rounds for years and been mentioned on here a few times but i still think it holds some relevance. Mr Albini's view:- http://www.negativland.com/news/?page_id=17 what would I do? depends on how much support the label were to offer.
25. I had a BC Rich on loan from a friend for 6 months when I first started learning. horrible thing. Looked exactly like the Fender Duff Mckagan models- (cream colour, black hardware but a pointy headstock). No idea what model it is. I had to practice really hard to play the thing which meant when I moved on to my mex jazz bass (which is still my number one) it was amazingly easy to play.
