What are Crafters like?
I have a Crafter acoustic guitar and I like it a lot, though I'm not much of a guitar player.

The Harley Benton ones I've seen were awful, serious neck and hardware issues. The best cheap(ish) ones I've seen are Tanglewood or Brunswick, but they are not as cheap as the Harley Benton.

My worst was at the very end of the night, all the guests made a big circle we played Auld Lang Syne as always, and the bride came into the circle with her sister as the groom had to go back to the police station after being arrested the night before for drink driving in a stolen car. Apparently they are still married.......
You say written... you mean rehashed from The Beatles?
I never understood this point of view, the Beatles were a great band, with lovely melodies and harmonies, Oasis are a shouty light rock band (fro meatheads), apart from the hair cuts I don't think they're alike at all
Very professional. The bride's father should have countered "Do you want paying?"
If someone in my band did that they would get fired.
The Dingwall Thunderbird. Headstock fail.
Doesn't work does it, needs something bigger to balance the look of the body.
-
Do they have tension adjustment? I think some of them have a nut at the bottom of the shaft to make them tighter (or looser).
-
Anyone have a picture of the Dingwall t-bird?

Nice, that definitely suits the image of your band, I still haven't found a bass I like that visually suits my alter-ego in my industrial band Metaltech. If I could find a nice 5 string Iceman with a full size body.......
(The wisdom of this advice was slightly undermined by him standing in front of a 747 in Iron Maiden livery which made me want to bash his smug brains in.)
Haha

I would buy it if I had £15K to spare, but I'd want to play it, so it would only be worth a few hundred next time it was sold.....
I don't like it. I'm safe again.
How about this? -
Our van has space behind the crew cab seats, so I generally just use a Mono Vertigo for everything, I do have a Hiscox which is handy if I'm going in a hire van, but doesn't see that much use. The vertigo takes up a little less space than the Hiscox, but it's a lot lighter and can carry cables and strap. I rarely walk far with it, but I've never found anything comfortable after ten minutes walking.
Fender won't make one though - it seems to be against their corporate rules to do anything new!
Now now, they brought out that Dimension last year, that was new......well it was a bit like a musicman, and it only took them 30 years to copy it. And they just brought out the American elite series recently, which is different to the American Deluxe because it has N4 pickups instead of N3. Fender, at the cutting edge!
Finally, pretty much all of us are where you are, its just that most of us like to exaggerate or achievements for dramatic effect!
I think this is a big part of it, I was in a reasonably successful band about 15 years ago, we did festivals, support slots and tours and never made a penny, now I play weddings and I make a living from it. I'm glad I've done both, but neither is better than the other.

Our band use an Allen & Heath QU24 digital desk, so we can recall scenes which is really useful to keep sound checks as short as possible, but it's part of our contract that we get an hour set up time with a soundcheck.
I scraped across the line of affording a Mike Lull and of all the £1500+ basses ive played or owned the Lull was the shabbiest. I understand that for others its bass heaven, but i was really disappointed. Just IMHO. A good usa five string fender jazz i owned was the best passive fiver i ever played, the Lull was just - mmmhh :-( - cant really say i got the warm fuzzy feeling when playing it.
I have to admit I didn't like the Sadowsky I tried either, I'm holding out hope that I find one I like (and can afford) at some stage, but I tried a lot of Jazz fives and the Sandberg was the only one I really liked, the Marcus Miller was the nicest Fender and the Sadowsky felt like a Fender with a nicer preamp (and a bigger price tag).
I've never got on with fodera basses. I don't earn enough money to be able to afford one would be my biggest gripe. Alembic too.
Add Sadowsky and Lull to that list for me, I can't seem to afford them, so I never end up with one.

Backup Gear - Anyone take a spare cab with them?
I once forgot my strap after having driven 45 miles to a gig.
I've turned up without a strap once too, I used a strap from the speaker cases (everyone plays with a PA right?) it was the most uncomfortable gig ever. -
I have Nordstrand in my Stingray, it is great well worth it if the bass turns out well.
Nice basses. Especially the status
I feel the opposite, all lovely, but I'm less fond of the Status. Horses for courses.....
My recently acquired 1972 Fender Jazz Bass.
That's stunning, same year and look as my Precision, if you ever want to sell it I would definitely be interested.
BTW, I never play the bass lines the same way twice. You don't have to. You can be just as creative with covers in some cases even more creative than with originals. Blue
I find the snobbery of "originals are better" kind of funny, I play with a singer songwriter from time to time, but the songs are all his, so to me it's still playing cover versions. No matter what I play I try to play what's best for the song, and it always sounds like me playing.

Backup Gear - Anyone take a spare cab with them?
EmmettC replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
I bring an EBS Microbass DI, so if my amp or cab go down I can just DI the bass, I prefer having an amp, but in an emergency it would be fine just DI'd.
