I got this in a trade last year, I persuaded myself that having a 4 string would help me play like Joe Dart. I was wrong. I've hardly used it since getting it, and it's in very good condition, the case has a few superficial marks though. Ideally I'd like to swap or trade for a 5 string with money going either way. I'm quite particular though, I'm really only interested in a few things Musicman Stingray 5 Classic, Musicman Sub 5 USA, Sandberg California 5 string (P or J) any Fender looking 5 but with 17/18 mm spacing and 44/45 mm nut. I could also be persuaded with a Genzler Magellan 800. Happy to post, or travel a reasonable distance from Edinburgh to deliver or meet in between.

I was playing a wedding about 5 miles from home, after a good humored set up i went off to the toilet to change. I'd forgotten my shirt, and wearing a Star Wars t-shirt just wasn't gonna cut it for this wedding. Luckily our drummers pal lived next door and brought me her 14 year old sons short sleeved school shirt, it was very tight, but better than my t-shirt.

So I've finally given up on my old fretless, I bought it almost 20 years ago in a pawn shop, and I used it as it was for a long time. It's spent the last ten years in my workshop waiting to have the electronics sorted, and when I went to look at it recently it seems the truss rod is out of adjustment, there's far too much relief and it won't tighten any more. It might be fixable with a washer stack, but maybe not. The neck is in ok condition otherwise. The electrics when I bought it were set up volume volume tone, with a selector switch and the jack socket has been moved to the front of the bass. As far as im aware the pickups are original, but I can't guarantee that. The body is pretty beaten up, the worst part is the control cavity is starting to collapse, it seems it took a bang from the front. It's not cracked through and could be repairable with a bit of support from the inside. The bridge and machine heads are probably the best bit about the bass, they are original and in ok condition. The truss rod cover is missing. I would really like this to go to someone who would fix it or would use the parts that are there to sort out another similar Ibanez, so any Ibanez enthusiasts will be given preference. The price is a guide as I have really no idea what this is worth to anyone, so offers are accepted. Obviously I have no say on what happens it after, but I'd prefer if it wasn't used to make a quick profit, but rather to be used. It was really great when it was working with loads of mwah. Trades for 70s Fender bridge saddle, nice Jazz bass pickups or fx pedals would be ideal.

Just sold my Genz Benz cab to Ilian. Easy to deal with, and super fast payment.

There's quite a few differences, for a start your bass is lovely and Ric's are the ugliest basses in the world, also I can't see even the slightest resemblance to a Ric and lastly I imagine your bass sounds good.

So, just how many basses do you own ????

In some ways, professionals are likely to have less than a collector. If you consider them tools, you probably won't want to have 20 to take care of. I'm a professional in as much as I make my living playing in a function band, I would have more than 20 if I could, but I can't imagine I'd ever need more than two basses for my current gig. -

So I have 5 basses, and I don't really get a chance to use them all. There's usually 2 or 3 in regular use, 1 is a back up to my main gigging bass and 1 is hardly ever out of its case. So if you have not than 20 basses, do you actually play them all, do you even keep them in a playable condition? Is there a few regularly played instruments? I'd have a much bigger collection if I had the time/space/money, but like motorbikes I already have more than I can actually use, even though I'd like more. -
What gear exceeded expectations for you?

Not directly bass related, but my LD Systems MEI1000 wireless iem system is outstanding value for money. I got it to decide if it was something I should go for, with the idea of upgrading to Shure or Sennheiser, but that was 2 years ago and I've had no reason to change them. The actual ear phones were a bit rubbish though, so do budget for something better. -
72 P bass tort and new McIntyre Jazz bass tort.

I had a black strat with white scratch plate, most boring looking guitar ever, looked so much better with tort. Totally agree, tort on shell pink is the ultimate combo.

I would like one at some point, though the oiled neck on my 5 is one of my favourite features, I think I'd miss that on the classic.

I have 5 at the moment, but it changes pretty regularly. At one stage I had 13, but the 5 I have now are much nicer than most of the basses I've had in the past. 4 of them are definitely keepers, the other will probably go soon enough, but only to make way for something else. -
I love my Ray 5, I actually don't understand why all 5 strings don't have the narrower MM spacing. It's still wide enough to play slap, but manageable with normal sized hands. I agree that a Stingray 4 (or classic/USA Sub) are among the nicest looking basses ever, unfortunately the "normal" Ray 5 is not pretty, but it more than makes up for it in quality.
