I never thought to post it here, but I bought a lovely light Maruszczyk 5 string PJ bass recently. I've been using it a lot in my wedding band, strung with flats it sounds perfect for motown etc. I was considering a preamp for it, but actually it's perfect passive. There's a push/pull that puts the P and J pickups in series and it makes it aggressive enough for some rock and roll.

Just bought an awesome fuzz from Ander, he posted it straight away. Top guy to deal with.
-
It does a bit, it's a nice pedal and really versatile. The down side is it does a lot of things pretty well, but it's not the best at anything. I do like that it does a lot and that it's so small. The Source Audio Chorus is overkill for what I need, I might swap that out for something simpler and smaller to make room for a different fuzz.

I think it's done. To make the Capo work as a di, I made a little patch cable with a low profile xlr, so to plug into the pa there's an xlr socket at the side of the board beside the output jack for the amp. It's very much an all purpose board, mainly for my wedding band, but also a blues rock original and an industrial band. It covers it all pretty well, having 2 eqs makes it easy to swap between bass guitar and upright without too much hassle....

No, but I'm helping you become much happier.😉

I'm quite similar, I play in a wedding band, but also in an industrial band. The C4 is great for both, but I also have a fair bit more on my board because I'm greedy. You won't be disappointed with the Capo. I did a DI comparison with my Capo, Radial JDI and Genzler Magellan 800, they were all great, but the Capo really warms up the sound in a way I can't achieve with the others. The Genzler DI is excellent, but if I tweak the amp to get a DI sound I really like it doesn't necessarily work with the cab, and when I get a sound I like from the cab the DI still sounds too toppy. Seems like running the Capo straight into the amp (set flat) gets me a great sound on the amp and the DI. I'm back to regular gigging this week, and I find I can never really judge something until I'm on a gig situation, but I'm pretty confident this will be the way I go.

At the risk of boring everyone to death, this thing is amazing. I've settled on a nice clean tone with preamp A and a small bit of grit when I add preamp B. I'll still use my B3k for full on drive. Everything I played sounded great, it is so well designed.

I like to have Star Wars stickers on my pedals when there's a bit of space, I can't bring myself to do it the the Capo.
-
Yea, it's just a small thing and probably particular to me. I'm only keeping the Genzler REQ pedal on there for the hpf and lpf, I don't actually need the eq section now. I'm sure I'll find a smaller filter pedal then I'll have a bit more room to play with. I put the aguilar octamiser on because it's narrower than the OC2 and the korg tuner because it's a lot smaller than the TU3. I really don't want a bigger board though. 😄

Well it plays nicely on my board, I've only tried it straight into my amp and using just the power amp of my head. I'll try it on a gig next week, but I'm confident it'll be a great di too. I was looking for something that would be a nice warm clean sound and sound good in my amp and as a di, I'm really happy so far. A practical thing though, it's too tall to go on the top row of my angled pedal board, it won't fit in the case. I've ordered an agled xlr to make a patch cable so I can just plug in a cable at the side of my board. I've already done that for the jack cables, so it'll keep the jack and xlr outs side by side.

Aww nice. I was happy with my signal chain, but I have an angled pedal board in a flight case, and the Capo is tall, so I'll need a rethink to fit it in. Slightly annoying because putting it lower down will restrict access to the xlr outs. I still haven't tried it, the kids are asleep and I'm struggling with Mendeley reference manager and word, they are not playing well after an update.....

I was just on the way out the door to collect the kids from school when UPS arrived with my new Jad Freer Capo. I won't get a chance to try it until later, but it looks great. It's definitely a solid piece of gear. I'll update with some clips and opinions once I've had a chance to get my head around it. Including customs it comes in around £500, so it's not cheap, but not too expensive for a hand made bit of gear.

Overwater J5 Series Contemporary Bass - *SOLD*

If it was a 'normal' one with the narrower nut and string spacing I'd be all over it. They seem reluctant to get me a price on a new one, still better than the shop that said they don't make it anymore....
-
If only the local shops wanted to take my money!
-
If I haven't sorted it out by next year I'll go and pick one up, but it seems excessive for a bass that should be readily available and not all that expensive. The shop I've spoken to does have some good reviews from international buyers, but I think I'm too nervous to go that way now.
-
I'm strongly considering ordering a G&L L2500 CLF from a US retailer. I have been in touch with all the big shops here in the UK that deal with G&L but it seems like they have no interest in taking my money. The only one who could get the model correct wanted nearly £4k for a bass that's about £2K when I've seen it listed here and only $1500 in the US. I've spoken to a shop in NY who are happy to ship it, but this thread makes me nervous. I have family in NY who could pick it up and send it to me, but I assume a shop would do a better job of packing it and filling out all the relevant customs stuff? Who would have thought it was so hard to buy a bass from a large, well known manufacturer.
-
Ooooohhhh. I'm really tempted with that.
-
I got the REQ and it's the low pass filter I use most. The EQ is useful for changing between my two main basses, but I love synthy sounds and turning on the LPF is a really nice effect. The EQ is much more subtle than on the Genzler 800, but exactly what I need to swap between a passive and active bass. If I get the pre it will be for the di and switchable curves.
-
I hadn't noticed the input, that is odd! Not a deal breaker, but I know I'd plug in to the wrong socket at some stage.
-
I just spotted this on Facebook, I don't see it listed in the UK yet, although I'm sure Bass Direct will have it soon. US price is $299 so I'm guessing around the same in £. I just ordered a Jad Freer Capo, but I might check this out too. I use a Magellan 800, so I probably don't NEED a preamp/di version, but when has that ever stopped me. https://www.genzleramplification.com/shop/magellan-mg-prepedal-preamp-di-pedal/
