1. What a thread I started! As for seeing em live, I had a ticket for the aborted 1974 tour when they peed off back home halfway thru - my pal saw them in London and continually reminded me what I'd missed! The I saw them in 2000 and, yes, musically impeccable but not exactly exciting.
2.
one way of interpreting what you seem to be saying is... 'it's too difficult for me therefore I won't like it'
I think my original post was wondering if the camps divide between those like me who prefer the commercially appealing stuff my non-musician fans like and those (some on here) who go weak at the knees for a complex bassline regardless of song quality. I'm also aware some of us play Dan material for a living, so am interested in their take. Also, as a side issue, was Becker a limited bassist? Or did he just play what suited the song?
3. I'm treating myself this morning to playing their first three albums right the way through as I work. The Dan get much praise here, but mostly for their later more complex work which can't hold a candle to Can't Buy A Thrill, Countdown To Ecstasy and Pretzel Logic. What's more they have bass lines I can actually attempt to play, as opposed to the complex finger-twisters of later years. Was it when Becker stopped playing bass that this happened? Or am I alone...
4. Forget the basses, I'm still getting over the pic of Harry Potter in a wig!
5. Unsmiley face suits my Precision.
6. Ah, so this is the one on Ebay....
7. I had 10 minutes in Jon's 'presence' a few years ago (three way interview) and wasn't hugely impressed. If Hughie can go places burly security men at his shoulder then he's got the best end of the deal. Youda thought JBJ was Bill Clinton or somebody....
8. Yeah, but I bet Al would swop a tiny bit of his talent for all that face fungus!
9. PM'd re overdrive

12.
Parcelfarce charge a £12 handling charge - but to be fair to them it's the same if the duty is £3 or £3000 quid.
I don't think it's fair. I just found out Halifax are charging £1 a day for agreed overdrafts, be they 50p or £500. That's a bit unfair too IMO! It's all about squeezing the little people....
13. Wouldn't be without my Samson!
14. So that's why the Stones didn't get anywhere until 1992?
15. Sold me a Strat - it arrived, well packed, the next day! Top man.
16. Hog's Back Hotel Farnham, last night. 15 narrow stone steps...BUPA membership recommended!
17.
You interviewed WZ? How terribly cool (or maybe not!). Telephone, or face-to-face?
In person. I also made the mistake of bringing Barney Hoskyns book 'Waiting For The Sun' (story of LA music) to read on the train. He saw it, grabbed it and started foaming at the mouth about how wrong it all was, jabbing his finger at specific pages! However the previous night I got to see him play on Jools Holland where he met (and I saw) Joe Strummer for the first time. So thanks, Warren, for that. Never meet your heroes! Now, with apologies, back to Bob Glaub...
18. Heard Jackson Browne Running On Empty on he radio a couple of nights ago - thanks Simon Mayo - think BG was on that. On a tangent, Zevon was the only musician I ever interviewed who turned out to be a total sh&%. Decided there and then I wouldn't let my personal opinion of a musician get in the way of enjoying the music. That man had good taste in bass players but a giant chip on both shoulders - 'Why did everyone else make it and I didn't'? Oh, and don't read his book, that's even sadder...rant over, back to Bob Glaub!
19. We play this song at the start of every function gig - I really better go back and listen to the original. We kick off the second set with Money For Nothing - with luck, alcohol has been consumed and the place starts to jump. Gawd bless da Straits!
20. Well done! I loved 'em back in the day.
21. It was Rick Wright actually - Mason never left (though he didn't always play on the records!)
22. I'm amazed Dickies got through the profanity filter...
