1.
Dave is good for me. I knew there were other people out there that cared as much about fellow bassists. That's a great offer and depending on how things go that might be a good option. Can only thank you myself and keep you posted on what happens. I have to say at this point that i'm no saint and wouldn't do this for everyone. There are a few people on Basschat that i've known since joining and following their posts you kinda get a picture of who they are. They are people that i feel i could trust and are well respected long term members. Don't want the flood gates opening and i end up with no gear for myself Dave
.
2.
I now have visions of comic relief shipping lorry loads of fluffy, snake shaped draught-excluders out to Somalia.
Ha ha ha ha ...the joys of posting after a nice bottle of red! ( another first world problem ....that's not meant as a dig Bilbo ...it was a jest at my own expense) I don't think I will edit my post ....it's quite a nice typo!
3. Dave, can I call you Dave? you do sign off that way. If you want to break the journey I would gladly meet you in the midlands ( I live near j28 of the M1 and take your gear down to Bubinga. I too am retired and would treat it as a day out . I don't have a fiver of any description otherwise I would offer it too.
4.
I think that this is what they call a first world problem.
True but we live in the first world. I don't think that the op was suggesting that his bass being older than he thought, was more important than Boko Harem abducting twenty girls, or there being a draught in parts of Africa. We wouldn't be able to discuss much here on a bass forum if we only stuck to non " first world problems".
5. I bought my MIJ Fender p in (I think!) 1994,possibly early 1995. When I checked the serial number it showed that it was made in 1989. I just assumed that it had been "in stock" at various places, the factory, the warehouse, the shop I bought it from. It might be more common than you would think.
6. I heard the single on Ken Bruce's show last week. On one hearing I thought it was a bit bland. I love a bit of Purple though so I will give the album a listen.
7.
There was a lot of sh*t being smoked back then, yeah ...
8. I used to think that I started gigging in 1975 .I recently discovered it was 1974.......... First gig Market Harborough Working Mens club (bit of a trek from Nottingham in those days...fee...£29.00 less agents commission shared around a four piece band. We knew 12 songs and had to play 3x 20 mins sets. Audition p bass copy ....£29.00 from woollies ( a weeks wage as an apprentice plumber or gig money for a band in Market Harborough ) No idea what lead I used into.... Laney 100wat Klipp guitar amp and a 2x15" Carlsboro cab....bloody huge and weighed a ton! Happy days trying to get back home by coasting down hills because we couldn't afford the petrol
9.
On Saturday night the folk punk originals band played its first gig within the boundaries of the Peak national park. A gruelling drive on minor roads in the rain to a Royal British Legion in a quaint stone village. We weren't quite sure what to expect but we got the sort of welcome a small rural community off the beaten track can give if they like you. I think a couple of the band might still be there drinking.
Was that in Hope? I gigged at a club in hope many years ago and had a similar experience.....I didn't want to go home
10. +1 for using the forum. A couple of years ago bagsie blue bought a bass from near me and I happily met him to deliver it after picking it up. Norwich is a bit far for me to be of help at the moment but you never know who might offer assistance.
11. My MIJ Precision does that. I bought it new in'92 and it's never bothered me in the slightest. I don't see what all the fuss is about
12. I've only got one bass Mind you, it is a Fender.....maybe I could nick your gig?
13.
is there nothing we can do to help this guy Mateusz thats just been scammed? Surely that's more important than telling off fellow BCers for inappropriate comments?
Not as easy as you imply I imagine. My son got scammed on a different site and trying to find where the so and so lives or get further replies was a waste of time. Ped on the other hand owns this site and get easily ( and quite correctly) sanction anyone that questions his sensibilities.
14. Shared ...I hope there is a good outcome.
15.
For a song that goes D, C, G, that's quite clever!
I had that thought too.....maybe they changed the key?
16. In my last band we usually started with Don't stop ....Fleetwood Mac. Simple, bouncy and dancey if they were up for it but also sing-alongy if they weren't.
17. Back in the seventies I took my (first) wife..... She was probably just my girlfriend at the time ....I don't know it was ages ago to see Sacha Distel....apparently he was "good looking" I didn't know that he was a great guitarist and I actually had a good night!
18. In 1972 I was fifteen and wouldn't have wanted to go and see that concert if you paid me ...I was into Budgie,Led Zepplin,Black Sabbath alongside Bowie,T.rex and the glam rock stuff. I realise that Rock and Roll was tremendously important In the way music developed.....I did see Chuck Berry at Buxton....but it was "old music" to me and I wasn't interested.
19.
Sorry, wrong thread
Oh no need for an apology I should have put a smiley after my comment to show that I was not being abrasive... So if anything ...my apologies to you
20.
I don't like it because a, it ain't good and b, Tommy Bolin ain't that good.
Isn't that the point of this thread; Albums you personally like but are deemed to be poor by the majority?
21. Family..... It's only a Movie. Too "American" for most family fans but I love it and still play it now.
22. Hello and welcome to basschat Mr Swift. I hope the surgery you require is not too drastic and you recover quickly. We are ( mostly) a friendly bunch on here but for heaven's sake don't mention appearing on any stage with a music stand
23. Happy new year to you too...well done on so many levels ( marriage,Alcohol etc etc) You need to do what is best for you.As for worrying about the other two......The drummer doesn't seem to care about (a) being in another band and ( b ) taking a year out to go pro' so why stress about it? Good luck in your new less stressed future!
24.
The Beatles were never teen idols. Not like a David Cassidy or Lief (I Was Made For Dancing) Garett. Not in the States. Not by my definition of Teen Idol. Blue
Over here Blue they definitely were ...all screaming girls drowning out "music" that you may have wanted to hear. But then all the sixties stars were teen idols......only teenagers bought that there new Rock and Roll music ....apparently
