  1. Sorry to hear about your band problems Blue. Will you be ok? You have mentioned many times that you rely on the income. I hope things get easier for you. Ray.
  2. I missed this in February. I will be ordering the paperback later this week..... Can't have an author not making money, just don't spend all the royalties at once Dave😜
  3. Rowley Regis? I don't know sorry. I know Kev and was just having a bit of banter. He's a nice guy, if you message him I am sure that he will let you know and be more than happy to chat if you go to the gig. Cheers Ray
  4. That sounds exciting Kev, I might just forget about the ticket and come to watch you!😉 Or...….. Maybe try to meet Dave at the bar🍺😜
  5. Utterly brilliant. I have just booked a ticket for The Rescue Rooms gig in Nottingham....can't wait!
  6. Ha ha something similar for me back in the nineties. Guitarist and me had a bust up on stage and I did the "it's me or him " strop afterwards.... They chose me. Interestingly a couple of years later I answered an ad for a bass player needed and it was him. He told me to audition anyway as it would be a band decision and he thought that I would be a good fit ( very decent of him I thought). I went ,full of trepidation and got the gig! we did a lot of function band stuff on the military basses here and in Germany but after a year or so his "gutarishness ( 😉 )" re -surfaced and every one fell out with him again...we just replaced him and his singer girlfriend and carried on😎 I have left my bass propped up against a wall a few times. always got it back, though once it was an anxious overnight wait until a guy who followed the band rang to say he had it...he'd found it on his way out of the venue!
  7. Try moving this to the General Discussion forum ( it is music related after all) @BigRedX may have an Idea...he seems very knowledgeable on effects and keyboards etc. I don't think he visits Off Topic very often. Good luck.
  8. 2450 people singing "i'm just looking" at the top of their voices back at us at Rock City is one of the most emotional things I have ever experienced! It must be amazing to be in a band that plays huge venues every gig, the energy coming back at you is quite intense. I can see why some people get a little carried away after the gig (that's a whole new thread right there)😜
  9. I played in a Stereophonics tribute band ...well sound alike rather than look alike... I played the biggest gigs of my life with them ...Main Stage Rock City...I earned decent money ( though the function band I did the military bases with paid better 🙂 )and had fun!. The best bit is the crowd at every gig are there because they want to hear the songs, so no playing to an empty bar. Go for it, Ignore the naysayers, if you don't like it you can always leave but if you don't try it you'll never know what it's like.
  10. That was the point of me posting the fact😉 Actually Colin is a nice guy and a more than capable bass player. Whenever I go to visit friends I catch a "Black Lace party" show and although it's as cheesy as a '70's fondue party the punters love it!
  11. No. But Colin Gibb( of Black Lace infamy ) replaced me in the band I left when I returned to the UK after a stint in Tenerife.😎😜😂
  12. @Mykesbass I forgot to congratulate you on the gig ...good stuff! My biggest gig was playing Rock City Nottingham . I was in a Stereophonics tribute band and played there three times in 2004/05 and 09 as part of a "monsters of rock" type bank holiday gig, for a few charities. The first time the venue didn't open the upstairs bars because they had no idea how successful it would be. after that the venue was sold out ...2450 capacity.... I loved every second of it.😍
  13. Hi Jack ….that joke will never wear thin for me.... I have tickets to the Stroud gig and the York gig ...looking at getting to the Newark gig too...hope you are well and happy ...I'll buy you a beer when we next meet up! Won't make it to Skeggy as they don't sell tickets for just the night time ...day tickets require you to be out by 6.00 pm ish… have a blast though!
  14. My first "decent bass" was an Arbiter ...same colour ...but mine had a cover over the bridge pick up that kind of "floated" ..my playing style meant that I kept leaning on it and it collapsed on to the strings....I had it sliver riveted in the "up" position and never had a problem afterwards...loved that guitar, like you I wish I had not sold it!
  15. Market Harborough Working Mens Club . some time in 1974 . I had a terrible Audition ( Woolworths brand I believe , certainly that's where I bought it from) bass that I gigged with for six months before getting something half decent. We knew 12 songs and had to do 3x 20 mins sets plus an encore....We had many requests to play "this again" 😉 Travelled from Nottingham, four of us in the band ...got paid £29.00.
  16. You don't need to know all the technical stuff ….it has lights people....FLASHING LED LIGHTS😍😜😎
  17. I have never learned the double bass and although I think they do look quite cool I have never been tempted to buy one. I bought an acoustic bass on a whim with the idea of playing it at my local's acoustic jam but haven't played it much. I agree with a fair few of your reasons to not like them Robbie., but it is easier to have an impromptu get together without having to lug an amp around. I hope you are still using it and that it is helping you to get by. Ray.
  18. I saw them at NFFC's City Ground in 2005. Idlewild, The Zutons and then REM . Fabulous line up, each band brilliant in the pouring rain...loved every minute of it. Well worth the £30 ticket price.
  19. The lead guitarist probably thinks that his is an important , integral part of the song...….he is wrong. I played in a band where the lead guitarist left and we just carried on playing gigs. We even carried on covering All Right Now...with no lead break. Nobody ever made any comment ...they just all sang along with the chorus as usual and we continued to get re-booked. In short…..ignore him.😜
  20. Ooh thanks for letting me know....I have just sent you an order.😉😂
  21. Back in the late nineties I tried to put together an Eighties tribute act. I couldn't find a guitarist that would play the Pop stuff needed to get decent gigs. At one rehearsal I discovered that the keyboard player had an amazing voice....long story short... I purchased backing tracks, he sang and I mimed the keyboards. At first I took my bass gear along and played live on some songs because I felt guilty ( the agent and the venues always knew that I was miming) but eventually we realised that nobody cared and I stopped lugging it around. In two years of gigging two or three times a week only one person came up to me and said " You're not playing those keys are you?" when I answered" no" he replied " you do a good job of making it look like you are though!" Go and enjoy the gig ….the punters will just be out to enjoy themselves.
  22. I wasn't sure where to put this ...it's General because it's a statement on the industry ; it's off topic because I want information , or it could also go in the gigs section On Friday I will be in Brierley hill (near Dudley) with no gig to go to because the one I booked a ticket for has been cancelled. I was going to see The Carpet Crawlers, a Genesis tribute band at the end of what has been ,mostly, a successful tour. Unfortunately they have had trouble at a couple of UK venues selling tickets. At Brierley hill they have sold 49 😲 They sell 2000 in some European gigs. You can read more about the details of the success and failure of their gigs on their Facebook page if you are interested...their band leader has done an enormous amount of research and both the band and the venue have promoted the gig extensively....lot's of their other gigs have sold very well.... just a few ...Redcar, Northampton and Brierley hill have not sold enough to make the gig viable. As I have already paid for my Hotel I will now be stuck in Brierley hill on Friday night (16th)….any of you lovely guys playing anywhere near there ? I might even come and say how much I like your bass! I could even add to the bar take by consuming a beer or two.😉 Ray.
  23. Hi. Welcome to the forum. There are some very friendly people on here. I used to work for Kia Motors (UK)Ltd and visited Seoul, along with a few other places back in 2004. It was a fabulous place.
  24. Crikey Tim will be a hard act to follow! It's a bit far to travel from Derbyshire....otherwise I would be practicing my blues now! Fabulous band....I hope you find someone soon.
  25. A drummer friend of mine has a Premier kit that he bought in the early Seventies that still hasn't been touched by bare hands to this day. He always wears white gloves when assembling and deconstructing his kit. He owns several other kits and a selection of snares that probably get the same treatment now that he owns them( He has a sixties ,Rogers - I think- kit that he uses in The Kinx that must have had hands on it before he owned it! ) but I can only vouch for the Premier kit as that's the kit he used when I played in bands with him.
