  1. Always nice to hear how people on here help each other.
  2. Musicians have been being replaced by machines for decades. To the extent that twenty odd years ago the fabulous "floating building" music studio at the Central TV site, in Nottingham, was dormant. It used to be full of people making music for TV programs, performers doing live shows...composers writing theme tunes; Then along came some bright 16 year old with his/her casio keyboard and it all disappeared. So much so, that after a couple of years of my band using it for band practice/recording ( free because the drummer was a sound engineer there!) it was gturned into …. Gulp.....the set for the remake of Crossroads! The TV studios are now long gone. I am still playing though ...as are all the other members of that band ...as are most of the pro musicians that played in there I'm sure. ( Well Tom Jones doesn't do much these days but hey ...small blessings and all that 😉 ).
  3. If it's called "easy Bass" Why has it got E Zed on the cover?
  4. Some might find this silly but we all thought Wayne was cool with his Frog bass....yes it was Green!
  5. One of the most enjoyable things I have followed on basschat.... See you in two years 😉
  6. There looks to be a fair bit of stuff to get on stage there. I'll bet the lead singer hasn't bought in as much as a mic stand! 😉 I am enjoying your thread again this year...thank you for keeping it going...I'd wish you luck for the gig but I think you are more than capable of making your own luck from what I've seen of your playing!
  7. My mate Colin ( Gibb) of Black lace fame has the likes of Agadoo, Music man , Penny Arcade etc covered in the Tenerife market 😉 Joking aside, Although it's not my sort of musical fish, I have watched him do the Balck lace thing many times and the audiences always love it. You will get gigs everywhere with a set like the one you hinted at, covering all age ranges and social standing....cue boozy pubs, "officers mess" Holiday camps, and corporate gigs all over the place....good luck with it. You can always play your slipknot set at a local open mic night ,should you have any spare time 🙂
  8. Crikey NOOOOOOO … I have enough trouble using the graphic ones ! 😉
  9. Ordered ...arriving tomorrow...just in time for my trip to Tenerife in two weeks!!!
  10. Ok ^^^^^ maybe the humour passed me by this time ...I have been in the pub all day 😉 I just thought that it was a really sad story...and I felt really bad for the poor "movers" imagine how bad they must feel? ..It was a piece of history.
  11. I'm a little confused here ..are you all having a go at a musician that has suffered the loss of her ,much loved, nay treasured, unique instrument? Just because it was likened to the loss of a limb? She didn't even sat that ! Do you really think that that is what she thinks? It's a figure of speech , used by many. She has had the piano for decades, takes it every where and it is the only one of it's make that has four pedals apparently. Instead of getting upset about a figure of speech can we not all see the tragic loss of a treasured instrument here?
  12. I have mentioned My love for Budgie and Burke Shelley in particular on here many times over the years. I first saw them in1973 and bought all their albums for many years...lost track a bit in the '90s and didn't keep up with collecting their releases but always loved to hear from them. Good luck Mr Shelley, thank you for the music and more importantly, thank you for inspiring me to play bass..... You will always be my hero.
  13. Have you thought of setting up a "go fund me " page ? They are very trendy I believe ;you might be able to afford a decent practice amp then. I'd send in a couple of bottle tops and a pack of 51 playing cards to help raise funds......I lost the 7 of clubs down the back of the sofa
  14. Haven't got a wife ...had a couple along the way.... but went to too many blues band gigs to keep em.😎
  15. I've been to the Gower but if you were rude to me I wouldn't have noticed.... I had just left my wife and was taking the kids on a pre arranged holiday ...It was fabulous and the kids did love it, so it couldn't have been too bad 🙂 Good luck with your search.
  16. I think the picture is from Wayne's world ..the lady was Wayne's girlfriend I believe.. .She could well be a famous bass player as far as I know too! The guy on the right ( green shirt) looks like the guy in the band that won the " battle of the bands" in School of Rock ...also could be a famous guitarist for all I know ! I ain't no Film buff either ..I just happen to like Wayne's World and School of Rock 🙂
  17. According to Wiki both Budgie and Spirit were formed in 1967 ...so it seems it was a draw😀
  18. Many great players and singers mentioned here and more yet to be mentioned I am sure . My personal favourite and inspiration ( I learned to play bass by copying his bass lines by ear)... Mr Burke Shelly of the band , Budgie Ladies and gentlemen. Vastly underrated band that influenced many rock bands that followed. I saw them many times ...they once toured with Judas Priest in support ....why Priest got the fame and Budgie didn't I will never know. Obviously all these things are subjective and if you don't like rock music you won't like this...….( not really showing off Mr shelly's bass playing but probably their most famous song).... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54H3EUAzpVg Mmmm you tube wont allow that video to be embedded so for those of you that can't be bothered to click on the link ….here's a different one ...more songs too!
  19. Not wishing to cause an argument but I thought there was quite a bit of very good publicity. If you missed it, I highly recommend The Windemere Children (BBC2 ) and it's follow up ..The Windemere Children in their own words ( BBC4) . Both should be on I player. … reduced a pathetic old bass player to tears constantly! I visited Auschwitz18 months ago...a very moving experience.
  20. Ditto ! I have enjoyed all your books so far...I want my hard copy!
  21. Don't worry It's just my silly sense of humour..... John Hall, CEO of Rickenbacker Guitars is a notorious litigator and sues anyone or anything that relates to the "Fakers" This very forum has been threatened by his highly paid lawyers in the past .. I was merely combining the the possibility of you being an undercover agent with a threat from my alter ego..Dr Ray Mondeaux.
  22. If vers a bit missin frum yer sign off wot shud a sed On b' half ov Mr Jon all...... The boyz 'l send yer rahnd my gaff !* *See DOI thread in " Off Topic" for context.😉
