  1. Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI in black with a custom matching headstock, professionally resprayed by David Wilson with black poly to match the body, and a custom order 'Squier VI' decal. Near-mint condition, there's one small dent in the back of the body that hasn't gone through to the wood and is barely noticeable. When I ordered this from Anderton's I asked if they could send me the one with the darkest fretboard as Laurel can be quite light and they didn't disappoint. It's strung with a set of roundwound Newtone strings with a .100 bottom E as the stock Fender ones were way too light. I also have a set of La Bella flats that can be included for a negotiable fee. It plays nicely and the pickups in it are great with a really nice, clear tone. Collection from the Baillieston/Uddingston area of Glasgow I don't have a case for it unfortunately but I might still have the box for it, though I moved house a couple of months ago and can't guarantee that it didn't get included in one of my many trips to the tip. If I can find it the postage will be an option.
  2. Could be from the original lining of the case; it was apparently quite common for the case to react with the finish on the bass/guitar, and would also explain why the original lining was ripped out.
  3. I collected the head last night and it's a big unit, much bigger than I envisioned. It's a wide version of the ABM EVO III 500 head, but the seller told me that the sleeve had been damaged so he contacted Ashdown who said they no longer made replacements for this particular model, so it's housed in an ABM EVO IV 900 sleeve instead, hence the sizeable gap at the bottom. It doesn't bother me, certainly not for £170; it all works fine and sounds good and is in excellent nick. ABM EVO II 300 C110 for scale:
  4. Fair enough, I didn't think to check, I just knew they had a login for here. I assumed they were taken out of combos but even if they were short on heads I would've thought it would be a pain in the backside for Ashdown to have to create chassis to put them in to sell as heads.
  5. The post I originally quoted above shows a wide version, same as the one I'm off to collect later. I'll maybe drop Ashdown an email about it just to satisfy my own curiosity. Unless @Ashdown Engineering can elaborate?
  6. The EVO III I'm looking at is 500W. I remember seeing wide versions of the EVO II 500 as well.
  7. What's the story with the wide ABM heads? Are they combo units that Ashdown repurposed into heads? I'm only asking as I'm going to pick up an EVO III head tonight and it's the wide, vented version rather than the standard one.
  8. There's someone selling one on Gumtree near me, a GP12 SMC Bass Pre-Amp
  9. This has been sitting in my parts box for well over a decade. Unbranded as far as I can see, approx 8m in length, a straight jack at either end. Yours for the cost of postage; I don't need it and just want shot of it as I'm struggling to get the parts box closed these days.
  10. A slight update: It's got a set of Gotoh Resolite Reverse Gear tuners on the way and that should be it done.
  11. Finally got round to replacing the pickguard on my bitsa P Bass:
  12. Do Jazz basses not normally have dot inlays?
  13. I've got the Classic '58 in my bitsa P and the Classic '65 in my JV Precision. They're really good pickups, though I'm not the best at articulating what pickups sound like. I prefer the 65, it's a bit hotter to my ear.
  14. Price dropped to £275 Genuine Fender Road Worn 50s Precision Bass neck, in excellent condition; as in, it's "worn" but all the wear is as it was from the factory, no new dings or scratches as far as I can tell. Made in Mexico and dated to February 2021. I bought this a year ago for a P Bass build but swapped it last month for a Classic 50s Precision neck as I prefer gloss necks, and the worn-in satin finish on this one isn't to my taste. Pre-drilled for vintage style reverse gear tuners and screw holes in the heel; I've only added the screw hole in the front of the headstock for the string retainer. Postage available at buyer's cost and will be well packaged. Any questions, just ask.

  15. Being serious though, I've not tried any Fender-style short scales that didn't have a bit of neck dive. I'd probably look at swapping the tuners for lightweight ones to see if it helps balance things out
  16. A stool is generally cheaper than a new bass
  17. Good price on this, I was looking at these just last night and people are generally asking for a lot more for these models.
  18. Squier JV reverse gear tuners in nickel/chrome. Bought from a fellow Basschatter about 6 months ago for my P Bass build, but I recently bought a new neck for it which came with tuners fitted, so these are no longer required. Solid, chunky tuners in good condition for being 40 years old. Will come with screws and ferrules but I can't be 100% sure that they're original, but they all fit together. Price is £40 plus postage, which is the price I paid for them.
  19. The stock pickup in the Matt Freeman Precision is excellent. One of the Matt Freemans I owned came with a Quarter Pounder pickup fitted and I asked the seller to include the stock one too. He messaged me after he'd shipped the bass and said he'd forgotten to throw in the original, so I made sure he posted it to me separately so that it could fit it back in because I love that pickup, and I hate the sound of Quarter Pounders. It's partly the reason why I refer to such things as modifications rather than upgrades, as I find the term 'upgrade' to be entirely subjective.
  20. These are 1100 quid new
  21. Agreed. The compensation should be at least equal to the cost of repairing it, which would be more than a hundred quid.
  22. Some pictures of it might help
  23. A wee update on my bitsa P; I didn't get on with the Road Worn neck so when @Studio GC put his Classic 50s Precision neck up in the Marketplace earlier in the week, I snapped it up. I know I'm probably in the minority, but I prefer glossy necks to satin. It's also a better fit in the pocket than the Road Worn, so nice and snug now. The gold Fender anodised aluminium pickguard didn't quite fit round the heel so it's got my old JV pickguard on there as a temporary measure while I decide what to put on it, though I don't hate it as it is now. As ever, the true colour is hard to capture in photos, it's still much more pale than the pictures suggest ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
