1.
I would be interested for £16, and I live in glasgow saving any postage, could meet up. Were bouts in Glasgow are you?
PM'd
2. No, there's no issue with the locks here, just the strap width, I have fairly narrow shoulders and it just looks a bit odd IMO. Any takers?
3. I recently got a Dimarzio clip-lock strap and bought a 3" one, not realising just how wide it would be. I've decided to get a 2" one instead, so I'm looking to offload this one. It cost me £24 the other day, but I'm only looking for £16, which is the cost of the 2" one. Alternatively, if you have a 2" stap and fancy trading for mine, that'd be dandy. Any colour, so long as it's black
4. Sold to Sam (budgetbassist)!
5. Have you tried Highly Strung? Those Jazz pickguards are the perfect size for an MIM Jazz, screw holes line up perfectly and everything. I've got one on my Jazz just now, and it cost me all of a fiver.
6. I've got a set of Dunlop Straploks that I'm not using, chrome in colour and great condition. Simple to use and a quality modification for your bass to use. I bought them without the instructions but I was able to assemble them easily, and I'm really thick. I paid £15.99 for them, I'm not really sure what resale on these would be, but if anyone's interested PM me an offer. Cheers Jono
7. A plus 1 for APC, which is good considering the crap I had last time I used them. £45 and a few pence to deliver a 40kg Ashdown cab from Glasgow to Keighley, Yorks. Collected it from the flat, had no problems arrranging a collection (at my convenience for once!), and the driver (who hadn't been told the weight and was on his own) carried the cab downstairs (well, in the lift) by himself and didn't say he'd need to collect it another time (I was at work, my girlfriend was at home). Delivered on time too, I'm very happy with them now. Not quite sure I like/understand the whole volumetric weight charging policy but the buyer paid postage so it's no skin off my nose. To be honest, I think the problem I had last time was just with the Kilmarnock depot I used last time, the Glasgow one was fine.
8. My vote goes for regular 'elephant ear' tuners as opposed to closed, 'butterfly' style ones, they just look wrong on Fender-types in my opinion. Yes, it's more work, but it would look so much better.
9. Thanks very much guys. I'll have a look at the tweaking the truss rods. I tried to get a set of Allen Keys today but had no luck. I'm going to try Maplin tomorrow. JLP, I think you may have misunderstood part of what I said. 3mm is the height of the E and A strings at the 17th fret when no notes are fretted, while Fender recommends that it be between 2 and 2.5mm. When doing the fret-at-the-first-fret-and-press-the-strings-at-the-end-of-the-neck trick, the height if the strings seems to be less than 1mm, leading me to believe that the neck is too straight.
10.
Has anyone tried to upgrade an MM2 to active with a decent pick up. I was just wondering if there is much work involved?
Take a swatch at this link to neepheid's OLP pimping thread. Between him and sibob, there's a lot of ideas, and they probably wont bite if you ask for help.
11. I currently have a Mexican Fender Jazz, and the action seems pretty high to me, and there's a bit of a choking issue as well. I used to have a Badass II on it, and had the neck shimmed to lower the action but without having a lot of fret buzz. I've since removed the Badass and put a more vintage styled Wilkinson bridge on it. I left the neck shim in and I have have to have the action quite high to eliminate any fret buzz. It's not too bad, but I'd like it as low as I could get it. I tried taking the neck shim out to be able to lower the saddles, but there was still a fair bit of buzz. It occurred to me the other night that the only thing I haven't tried is the truss rod. I bought the Wilkinson after speaking to BassBunny, who recommended it and said he didn't have to shim his neck. I've done that thing whereby I fret the neck at the 1st fret, use my arm to press the strings down at the body end of the neck and measure the string height at the 8th fret, and it doesn't seem to be too high at all, but I also have a Fender set-up manual that my flatmate got with her Tele and has instructions for guitars and basses, and according to that, my action is about 0.5mm higher than Fender recommends as a comfortable string height at the 17th fret (Fender says about 2-2.5mm, mine is about 3mm). First of all, does all that make sense? Secondly, would it be an idea to remove the shim and put a bit of relief in the neck? Roughly a quarter-turn clockwise? Thirdly, what size Allen Key would I need to undertake such a task? I didn't receive one when I bought the bass a few years back. Any help would be greatly appreciated fellas.
12. I had a black pickguard on a black Precision, but only because a brown tort one was too expensive
13. What models of Fender will this fit on? I have a Mexican Fender Jazz and something like this might be handy.
14. One last bump for this methinks. If no one fancies it then I'll fire it on ebay next sunday.
15. Bump! Dropping the price to £100 to get rid of it, the more I unpack, the less space there is in the flat for this!
16. Sorry folks, Badass is sold pending payment. Even if I hadn't (provisionally) sold it, a swap for a Gotoh would definitely not be on the cards, I've done it before and felt a bit short changed, the two bridges are not exactly of equal standard, and I found that the Gotoh was not much improvement over the standard Fender one.
17. Don't know really. Obviously I'd like to get away with spending as little as possible but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. About £40, either new or second hand depending on what's available, would be sweet.
18. I've recently noticed that the original machine heads on my Jazz are starting to go out of tune a bit easier than they used to and so I'd like to replace them. It's a Mexican Jazz Bass, and I'd ideally like a set of direct replacements, or ones with as little fannying about to fit as possible. Does anyone have any recommendations? Cheers Jono
19. I've got a bog-standard chrome Badass II for sale if anyone wants it? You know the drill, it's a solid, reliable, quality piece of kit, and with the exception of slots cut in the saddles for the strings, it's mint condition too. It's a great upgrade for anything with a traditional bent-tin style bridge, but the styling of the Badass is just not for me. I'm ordering a traditional style Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles just now after recommendation from BassBunny, so in a couple of days the Badass will off my Jazz and ready to go. I'm looking for £35 inc. postage if anyone's interested. Cheers Jono Edit: Will try and get pics up if anyone needs them.
20. Crikey Moses, what a week! A little bit late, but as promised, here are pictures of the cab! I've decided that I really need to get rid of this cab ASAP, it's just too big for my flat and takes up a huge chunk of my storage cupboard so the price is now £120 o.n.o. For postage purposes, I still have the cab in the original box too. The last picture shows the tiny tear in the carpet covering, it's probably about 8mm or so across and barely noticable
21. I checked the online prices, soundslive.co.uk has them for £489, or I could have a dinged one for £450. There's not a huge choice colour wise, but i'd go for black or sunburst anyway, so it's no big deal. I'm not a huge fan of that 'baby sick' colour, think it's called transparent Honey Blonde, and I can't find a picture of the Daphne Blue one anywhere
22. Ive just started a new job with a monthly bonus and so, as an extra, extra incentive, I've decided that my bonus each month is going to the new bass fund, along with whatever falls through my letterbox at Christmas. I was looking at getting a new Jazz, and I've been tempted by the new American Standards and the Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn, but while I've heard of the Highway 1 series, I've never really been completely sure what the score with them is. Taking a look at the Fender website, they're pitched between the Mexican Std and the Deluxe series, which I believe is made in Mexico. Am I right in thinking that they're American made parts, assembled in Mexico? I've had a look at one in Sound Control, and I've noticed the thinner matt finish than the American Standards, and I've heard the Grease Bucket tone circuit is really good too.
23. Apparently £150 is unreasonable for a second hand MAG 410, so I'll bump this bad boy up with a new price of £120. Pictures will go up tonight or tomorrow when I get hold of my camera boys and girls!
24.
Hi, are these 300W's as it is or do you have to use an extension cab to get the total 300Watts output ? cheers
I think you need the extension cab to get the full power rating, I've got 325 Watt head but I can only get that with 2 8 ohm cabs, I think the combos speaker is 8 ohm. I've got a 4X10 cab that would match it perfectly
25.
don't mean to be a barer of bad news but i can get a brand new one delivered to my door for £195. If you want to sell this you will have to drop the price i would have thought. I will keep my nose out from now on
It's a good job I'm not asking for £195 then . Seriously though, I did the same as Ou7shined, and I can't find one for that price anywhere. If you can point me in the direction of one then I'll drop the price, but if you're looking to buy one then as I said previously, I'm looking for something around £150, which I don't think is a terribly extortionate price, but hit me with your best offer anyway. Bump.
