1. Apparently £150 is unreasonable for a second hand MAG 410, so I'll bump this bad boy up with a new price of £120. Pictures will go up tonight or tomorrow when I get hold of my camera boys and girls!
2.
Hi, are these 300W's as it is or do you have to use an extension cab to get the total 300Watts output ? cheers
I think you need the extension cab to get the full power rating, I've got 325 Watt head but I can only get that with 2 8 ohm cabs, I think the combos speaker is 8 ohm. I've got a 4X10 cab that would match it perfectly
3.
don't mean to be a barer of bad news but i can get a brand new one delivered to my door for £195. If you want to sell this you will have to drop the price i would have thought. I will keep my nose out from now on
It's a good job I'm not asking for £195 then . Seriously though, I did the same as Ou7shined, and I can't find one for that price anywhere. If you can point me in the direction of one then I'll drop the price, but if you're looking to buy one then as I said previously, I'm looking for something around £150, which I don't think is a terribly extortionate price, but hit me with your best offer anyway. Bump.
4. I've got an Ashdown MAG 410T but it's too big for my new flat, so I'm looking to get shot of it and replace it with 2 2X10s. I'm in Glasgow, and it can be picked up or posted at buyers expense. It's in pretty good nick, only gigged once, and there's one tiny tear in the carpet in the back which was there when I bought it at the start of the year. Price is now £120. I'd also consider a trade for an Ashdown ABM 210, with cash adjustment if needs be. Send PMs my way, I'll try and respond as quickly as possible. Edit: Pics are now up, scroll down to see them.
5. My Jazz had a Gotoh 201 on it for a while but I really didn't like it. Don't know if it was a duffer or not but there was no improvement in tone or sustain over the original 'bent tin' bridge that it came with. Went to what was formerly Sound Control today, the new Squier bridges look a lot studier than those on the new Fender American Standards. Oh and in guitar guitar they have the Classic Vibe 60s Precision with a bridge cover on it, which I reckon really tops it off, it looks effing lovely!
6. I've been eyeballing one of these Jazzes in Guitar Guitar in Glasgow, but I never have enough time to try it out. How's the bridge on it? I've been thinking about picking one up as a replacement for my Badass, but there don't seem to be any on ebay just yet.
7. Does anyone know if the Squier High Mass Bridges are available to buy? Particularly the one with brass saddles on the Classic Vibe Jazz, that looks alright.
8. The Ghost of a Thousand album has been on repeat for the last 5 days, it's excellent! Some really good bass on it too, although whoever played bass on the recordings isn't in the band anymore. Been listening to Cancer Bats a lot too, and also Agony & Irony, the new Alkaline Trio album. Generally very good, although there's a couple of duff tracks, and the odd rubbish lyric or two. The Red Album by Weezer starts well, tails off in the middle for a couple of tracks but pulls its game up at to end. Oh, and Talking Heads has just come on my media player!
9.
Hippies are ace, as are Schaller. Maybe not what your after but they will make an improvement to the instrument as a whole...
I had a look at the Hipshot site, and while they look like they'd do the job well, they aren't really what I was after looks-wise. I think it''l be hard to find something that will improve the sustain and sound of a stock bridge but also keep the trad aesthetics.
10. I've got a Squier 20th Anniversary Stratocaster and it's one of the nicest guitars I've ever played, despite the abuse it's taken over the year! I reckon Squier pulled out the stops that year, no point in celebrating a birthday with crappy guitars! I've also got a Graphtech Tusq nut and a thumb rest going spare, drop me a PM if you're interested Marcus.
11. I spied those Bassbunny, I was tempted but as they're aren't as chunky as the likes of the Gotoh and the Badass I wasn't sure if the sustain would be any good, even with the brass saddles. They are indeed from Axes R Us, a great little site, I do most of my parts buying from there. Great service too.
12. Have a bump on me, this is a great amp at a great price. I paid £270 for mine and it's a bit scruffier than this one.
13. I had a look at the Fender bridges but they're for through-body stringing, which the Mex is not. I don't fancy drilling through the bass either, and I'm far too broke to pay a luthier to do it at the minute.
14. Recently it's been Against Me! - New Wave, which I didn't like at first but it's grown on me now, and also Reuben - In Nothing We Trust, but This Is Where The Fight Begins by the Ghost of a Thousand landed on my doorstep this morning so I'll be listening to that later on.
15. Is this for the bridge I sold you? I didn't send you any screws with it because I'm pretty sure I don't have them but I'll have a look and if I find them I'll send them down to you. If I can't find them, look here: Axes 'r' Us. About a 1/5 of the way down. Give them an email and they'll be able to tell you which ones you need, they're really helpful and there's no postage either.
16. I'm looking for a good quality replacement bridge for a Fender Jazz that ISN'T a Badass or a Gotoh 201. It's a Mexican Jazz Bass, so the screws are 5 in a row. I've currently got a Badass II on it, but it's an ugly f***er, and I've had a Gotoh 201 on it too, but I didn't like it very much, I found it didn't sustain well. The Badass does the job very, very well, but I'd prefer something more traditional looking, the Badass doesn't fit in with the aesthetic IMO. Any suggestions?
17. The above mentioned pedal is currently sitting in my local Cash Converters, with a very reasonable price tag of £20. The thing is, they don't have the stuff so I can try it and I doubt they'll let me return it if I hate it. Has anyone got one, or tried one? Harmony Central has a lot of positive reviews, but they've mostly been written by people hoo rite lik dis, which is off-putting. Any coherent people tried it?
18. Use the Allen key for the saddles screws to lower the height of the saddles and therefore the strings. I think it's anti-clockwise to lower it, clockwise to raise it. Or, assuming, you've done that, you might want to put a shim in the neck, I did it with the Badass on my Jazz to get the action a bit lower. I used a small piece of thick card in the last quarter of the neck to raise the angle of the neck against the body. I think there's a thread about it in this section, if you use the search bar at the bottom of the page you should find it ok.
19. Daryll Jennifer from Bad Brains, and presumably Dr Know, guitarist of Bad Brains, because he taught Daryll Jennifer to play bass.
20. The plastic dots along the neck of my Jazz look a bit worn and scruffy and sh*t, so how would I go about removing them to replace them with something nice looking, maybe Mother of Pearl?
21. They're flat pole pieces, not staggered with raised A and D pole pieces. I'm not near my bass at the minute, but from what I remember, the pole pieces are flush with the pickup cover. They're pretty growly IMO, suitable for rock/blues/metal etc.
22. I bought a set of Wizard 84s from Dr. Dave, and they're great pickups, I thoroughly recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their J-type bass.
23. I've got an MIM P Bass bridge if you want it? It's a bog standard chrome affair, with a missing grub screw. What you should do is take the saddles off Dave's brass bridge and put them on the chrome one, it wont look out of place and brass is a much better metal for sustain than whatever Fender bridges are made of.
24. It's not a bass, but my Squier Strat is one of the nicest playing guitars I've ever used, and the neck is brilliant. It's 6 years old and fairly battle scarred, but thbuild quality is outstanding, especially since it cost £180. The pickups weren't up to much but it gets used for rock mostly so I used it as the base for a wiring project and now it has 2 humbuckers in it, and with the exception of an ill-fitting aftermarket scratchplate it's brilliant. There's a bit of a jump in quality between the Affinity series and the Standard's, but they're really well made instruments.
25. Nice! I love SBVs, they look brilliant IMO, but I'm sure thousands would disagree. I quite fancy a sunburst one myself.
