1. That bridge looks an absolute bar-steward
2. I find that Ashdown can be a bit muddy but that's why I use a 4X10 to balance it out. It's definitely a more 'vintage' sound than other makes, but I saw Cancer Bats, Johnny Truant and Hexes last night at the Barfly in Glasgow, and all 3 bassists had ABM 500 heads mounted in a single rack through an 8X10. They're some heavy bands and there was some great sounding bass last night, pretty growly.
3. It's so dinky! For some reason I expected it to be bigger
4.
The jazz deluxe looks a like the body has been squashed in the vertical slightly. I really like it. Is this a trick of the eye/camera/monitor or can I buy a jazz that looks like this?
Looks like the Jazz has an extended cutaway to me. Nice collection, especially the Aria, very tasty!
5. I'd need to stick a brown tort scratchplate on it too
6.
They are nothing alike. Your Squier logo is solid, the one in question is gold and outlined in black. The "by Fender" underneath your Squier logo is an actual Fender logo, the one in question has it in capital letters. Yours says "J BASS", the one in question has "JAZZ BASS" spelled out. The fonts are different. The only similar thing is the maple behind the logo.
Also, Starvolt's Squier has Affinity on the end of the headstock and says 'Crafted in Indonesia' on the back, while the OP was asking about a Korean model. 2 different countries, 2 different standards of quality.
7. Where's the other strap button?
8. Only In Dreams - Weezer
9.
The only similar thing is the maple behind the logo.
10.
scotland isnt that big, i'm wondering who this was.....
They were called Magnus Blaze. I have no problem with naming and shaming, they were C**** and treated the promoter (my friend) like crap. The worst thing is she totally runs herself into the ground putting on shows and gets really wound up about it, they didn't have to do much to make her night a little bit easier.
11.
My personal bane: Support bands that overrun and then wander off stage after their set without bothering to move their gear out of your way and then get arsey when you move one of their guitars.
How about support bands that leave immediately after their set, taking all their gear with them that they'd told you and the promoter that you could borrow? It was only one guitar amp, and the sound man had a store room packed with tasty amps, but the band in question were meant to be headlining, turned up late for soundcheck and announced that they'd sold no tickets. And they'd sneaked all their gear out while the promoter was working her arse off trying to get stuff sorted out and not tell her that they were leaving. Unsurprisingly they were an arrogant bunch because they'd got to the quarter-finals of some Battle of the Bands.
12. I'm tempted to get an OLP and do this sort of thing: Neepheid's 'Pimp Mah OLP' Thread Simple but effective mods for an OLP to make it a great bass for not a lot of scratch. A router is needed, but as OldGit points out you can get a bettery box routed and installed for £20. To save extra cash, there's a couple of nice OLPs in the Marketplace.
13. If you want to post photos, upload them to an image hosting website such as photobucket.com, and then click on the IMG code (it copies automatically) then paste it in your post when you're replying to a topic. I think it automatically resizes them too. I'm not totally sure but I've never had a problem with pictures being to large. Good luck with the sale too, I was thinking about getting one of these but they're pretty hard to come by, and Sod's Law seems to dictate that whenever something I want comes up at a great price I'll be totally broke. If you want to hold it for me and let me pay in monthly installments of £25 let me know
14.
the squier is a top runner at the moment - i've just been a bit put off by its looks, might see if i can double sided tape a pickguard to it. in an ideal world, it would be black/tort - but i dont think thatll happen.
I was gonna suggest sticking a scratchplate on it, but why not just get it fitted properly and drill screw holes in it? A scratchplate would set you back about £20
15. Last night I dreamed I had an SX SPB-57 3TS, which is this one: I think it's a sign, although recently I've been gassing over any '57 style P.
16.
lets forget it wasn't played by the bassist !!
17. I think The National Anthem by Radiohead is a good example of an "uninteresting" bassline being important to the song. It's drives the track along and loops over and over while it's everything else that does all the interesting stuff. 4 notes is all it is but anything else just wouldn't work. I'd rather listen to a good song than an average one with an interesting bass line.
18. Not anymore, but I have done in the past. And always failed. Now my folks just ask me what I want. It was a new pickup last year for the P.
19. I cheated and searched for it, I didn't want to wait til tomorrow for pics. It looks a beast! Good buy!
20.
£200? Did I read that right? Looks like a bit of a bargain that
+1 My MIM Jazz is from the same year ('03) and it's a quality bass, clearly I managed to avoid one of the pigs that escape the Mexican QC sometimes. Would've loved it in this colour though. Is that scratchplate a replacement or the original one?
21.
well, the part itself doesn't have to be jaw-dropping, as long as it fits in with the tune.
+1 One of my bands songs isn't overly complicated but it's all about dynamics and ends on a massive crescendo. The bassline for it is just root notes because I've tried doing something more "interesting" but it doesn't work for the song. Although the ending has some nice droning/chord stuff that's pretty good.
22. I've seen them, I desperately need one, but $84 is not something I have lying about sadly. And I'd have to get 2 because sometime I use the Jazz and sometimes I use the Precision. Bah! Don't they need a bit of tweaking after you flick it back up to E?
23. Between songs we do lots of prog sound-scaping, and I take this opportunity to re-tune as it seems to be only me that has to change between standard tuning and drop D. Sadly, our keyboard/synth player likes using lots of high frequencies that play havoc with my tuner (Boss TU-2). After a minute or so of trying to get in tune and failing miserably, I have to turn it off and tune by ear, which looks and sounds crap on stage.
24.
Yeah - as the strings slowly get dirtier and lose their edge, you don't notice the bass sounding duller. Then all of a sudden you think the bass doesn't sound as good as it used to. Give the strings a boil or buy a new set - it's like a new bass again, nearly.
Or clean them with meths, apparently. There was a thread up on here not that long ago which suggested cleaning your strings with methylated spirit to dissolve all the crap out of them. Just not crystal meth, obviously.
25. From what's been said on the SX Owners Gallery thread in the Bass Porn section of Basschat, the SX basses that come in the starter packs have 21 frets as opposed to 20 frets on the ones that Rondo sell individually and aren't as good quality.
