  1. The perfect example of 'Be careful what you wish for'.
  2. I used a Genz Neox 2x12 for some time with a Streamliner head when I swapped from a Trace SMX amp and cabs and it sounded really good and not dissimilar. There's one in the F/S section you could check out as well. Really good bit of kit.
  3. It definitely catches up on you as the years roll by. It never used to bother me one jot if we played a lot of gigs with late nights and long journeys but it isn't like that any more. I'm not much use the following day now and if it's a ball breaker of a gig it takes me a few days to get over it. No way I'm throwing in the towel though.
  4. Don't believe a word of it. I now gig regularly with a Harley Benton bass and a load of cheapo pedals and it all works and sounds just fine and dandy.
  5. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Now I can't unsee any of that.
  6. I use Diago Patchfactory. Not had a single problem with them. I bought a cheapo solderless kit off ebay which was complete garbage and went in the bin. If I can I use straight cable-less connectors from pedal to pedal.
  7. Some basses don't lend themselves to wall hangers. Obviously headless basses, but Telebasses aren't a good idea either with the thin headstock. The cut of the headstock can also make the bass want to hang to one side.
  8. Everybody has something that pulls their musical puke trigger. For me it's the pseudo operatic wailing of Bruce Dickinson and the like.
  9. My Mrs. has always been a big Pink Floyd fan. She'll happily tell anyone who will listen how she used to sit on the stage or wander around half empty pubs listening to them back in the 60s. She'll also happily tell you that the sound was always crap, they would shuffle on and play meandering pshycedelic nonsense for ages and then wander off again with no audience interaction whatsoever and that they would spend the whole time staring at their feet. It would often be 20 minutes in that it would dawn on you that this was actually the gig and they weren't still tuning up.
  10. Fabulous amp. Wouldn't want anything else if I went over to the dark side.
  11. 12 bar in A Bb B C C# D Eb E F F# G G# - sorted.
  12. I had the old Ashdown 4x8 600 watt cab years ago. Bought it for peanuts with seized drivers. Totally oblivious to the complexities of cabinet design I bought 4 150 watt Celestion drivers from Blue Aran, bunged them in, hooked up the wiring and gigged happily with it for the next 4 years. Always sounded fine and never missed a beat. Ignorance can apparently be bliss.
  13. It's more important to prove to the Facebook world that you were there than to take in the experience don'tcha know.
  14. I'd be on this like a tramp on chips if I wasn't catastrophically skint.
  15. Sounds like a slightly more politically correct Black and White Minstrels dance troupe.
  16. Randy California was 16 when he joined Santana if memory serves me right.
  17. What amp and cab would you recommend for this Jack? I'd say an SVT and an 8x10. Bit tricky recording it though.
  18. Was going to mention Matt Schofield. They are such a talented band but when I've seen them I'm always left thinking they would be so much better with a bass in there.
  19. I use a Broughton high pass filter which does the same as the Thumpinator. I use it near the front of my signal chain to stop sub frequencies messing with the signal going to other pedals. I don't use it all of the time but find that it help in certain situations like hollow stage areas when the bass can become a bit unruly.
  20. Tecamp Puma 1x12. A little gem.
  21. I've not tried one but I like the sound of the EBS Reidmar.
  22. Anything off this album;
  23. The feel comes from playing in front of or sometimes behind the beat. It makes the bass drum and snare stand out by not cluttering up the sound but also serves to give the music a swing or lilt. Don't be afraid to leave spaces either, especially under the 1st and 2nd beats of a bar and you can offset this with clusters of notes under beats 3 and 4. This is what I've found, although opinions may well vary.
  24. When I played in a functions band (many years ago) we were always looked after apart from one quite astonishing incident. We went down to the South coast to play a function for an obscenely wealthy individual. He had personaally finance the UK entry in the Americas Cup ocean going yacht race one year - yes, that wealthy! We'd driven a long way and it was a long day. We were given a plate of cheese sandwiches (1 each) and that a bottle of beer was £2. We were surrounded by toffs spraying each other with bottles of Bollinger and throwing platefuls of lobster in the bin. Quite bizarre really. We'd charged a decent but not extortionate fee but we really were made to feel like the hired help. One of those things you often wonder if it really happened - but it did.
