  1. Had a Peavey MkVI head and 1820 cab many moons ago. Awesome sounding thing but it caused tidal changes due to it's own gravity field.
  2. He needs to get out more if he thinks Paul McCartney is the worst bass player in the world. Come round mine for starters!
  3. I think it's all about context. I used to play in a functions band which could have anything up to 13 members with full brass section and backing singers. In that situation my bass tone was very straightforward and un-coloured. In that band there was a lot of emphasis on nobody overplaying unless they were soloing. Now I play in a 4 piece Rock band comprising Vocals, Guitar, Drums and Bass. In this context I need different tones to ensure that the bottom doesn't drop out of the sound when there is a guitar solo. I only had a tuner pedal in the functions band but I need a pedal board fully loaded for the rock band (and the ability to tap dance which is a challenge).
  4. They run on a standard 9v supply (Boss) but have an internal step up which boosts it up to 33v. Great pedal.
  5. EHX Bass Soul Food - SOLD COG Knightfall - £75 Mooer Fog (Fuzz) - £25 All include UK Postage (Standard).
  6. Used to play in a band which did a ska version of It's Not Unusual by Tom Jones. Absolute stonking song to play which was a real crowd pleaser.
  7. Bass heaven - Instrument at waist height. Bass hell - Instrument at chest or knee height.
  8. You can get dehumidifier bags on ebay pretty cheap. I sometimes have my gear out in my shed with a blanket over it and a couple of bags under the blanket for good measure.
  9. Any excuse to put this out there again. The bass groove that David Dyson sets up at 2.38 is as funky as I've ever heard (and I've shamelessly nicked it whenever possible).

    Rig help

Fender Rumble 500 combo would be my suggestion. Light, loud and great tone.
  11. Should have put Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
  12. The message was fine but the delivery system was dreadful.
  13. Conversely, I was once present when Bill Bruford was setting up for a gig. He might have been having a bad day, I don't know, but on that occasion he was utterly obnoxious and unpleasant. None of it was directed at me but I never wanted to listen to him since. Never meet your heroes and all that.

    Hiwatt

As already stated, a lot of stuff badged as Hiwatt is made in China now. It's junk and bears no comparison whatsoever to the proper Hiwatt gear.
  15. Try to catch the documentary on the making of Steely Dan's album Aja. There's some good stuff on there from Chuck Rainey, particularly when he told Walter Becker he wanted to put a slap riff in Peg. Becker told him not to but he did it anyway and they loved it.
  16. Dont like gold hardware, don't like exotic woods with swirly grain or spalted woods, don't like curly horns or anything that looks like an implement of torture. You get the picture.
  17. Sounds like fuzz and chorus to me. On my board I'd use the Chowney Fuzzster and EHX Bass Clone (neither of which are expensive).
  18. You have to rely on your ears to not overload your cab when you are near or over the limit with your amp. It's also a case of how hot your signal is going into the head. One problem is that it is easy to push your cab too hard in a high volume situation without noticing that it's struggling.
  19. Cracking pedal at a bargain price. Got one and can't ever envisage selling it.
  20. I like the sound (and price) of the Mooer Hustle.
  21. I wouldn't hesitate to use my Fender Rumble 100 in a similar situation. Light as a feather and plenty loud enough for monitoring.
