Physical product for me. I still miss reading the sleeve notes on an LP on the bus on the way home from the record shop which was never an option with the micro print on CDs. Can't imagine reading anything on a kindle. The drummer in my band has something like 1000 albums on the mp3 player in his car. Can't see the point myself.

I don't practice much on bass apart from learning new songs for the set list, but I do enjoy learning how to play stuff on guitar, mostly from Youtube tutorials.

Petition to help save a great local music venue.

Signed. I blame Simon Cowell. -
The 'loud' guitarist I mentioned further back in the thread had a 30 watt Marshall Bluesbreaker at one point and 'Holy Mother of God' that thing was loud. I'd imagine an AC30 at full chatt is quite something, not that I'd want to be anywhere near it.

Would be a great addition as long as it's adjustable and defeatable. An inbuilt noise gate wouldn't be a bad idea either in my opinion.

Played a gig once where the guitarist blew a cone in his cab. At the time I was using an Ashdown 4x8 and 1x15 cab setup so he had the 4x8. It sounded pretty good actually with a few tweaks on his JCM amp and pedal board.

We usually ask the audience to tell us if there's anything wrong with the sound. We have a few 'followers' who are pretty well clued up as well which is handy. It's often difficult to get a handle on the 'out front' sound from on stage and the sound always changes as the places fill up (hopefully). I've played with some stupidly loud guitarists who maintain that they 'can't get their sound' without a cranked Marshall JCM but luckily the guitarist in my band of the last 8 years plays through a 25 watt Marshall Jubilee which sounds great at sensible volume. I think that micing up drums can be the top of the slippery slope into volume armageddon. An unmic'd kit is plenty loud enough for your average pub gig (and a bit more if your pot basher has a single eyebrow).

Exactly how I do it. Everything kept separate and easy to use.

To a woman wearing all black who had a really loud, raucous laugh 'Don't clap like that love or I might throw you a fish'.

Also, 'We've had a request, but we're going to keep playing'.

Aren't there examples in every genre of music that each of us likes or hates? Jazz covers an immense spectrum of music and I don't see how anybody could dislike all of it.

I use an Ampeg Scrambler as an 'always on' pedal which I like. Plenty of drive and a clean blend to maintain the low end. I also have a One Control Hookers Green on my board which is a cracking pedal. I've heard good things about the Caline Orange Burst on the really budget end of the scale as well but not actually tried one.

Much as I'd love to see SD, I really have had it with big venues. Last few times I've been to Wembley or the O2 have been shockingly expensive with atrocious sound every time.

When I hit a brick wall I went and had some lessons. I wanted to do something completely outside of my remit and ended up learning to sight read (pretty badly) and playing a lot of Bach cello pieces. Really enjoyable experience for a self taught, play by ear, weekend warrior pub rocker.

I've had a few issues with buzz (at particular venues) so I'm waiting for a noise gate to turn up which I'd like to try between the preamp and power amp. At said venues I found that in one particularly noisy situation, running my entire effects board through the loop eliminated the problem, but the overall sound was different. I have a T Rex Chameleon power supply which has isolated outputs but I had to daisy chain a couple of pedals which is probably a contributing factor (as is my single coil bass), but £24 for a noise gate might get me a cheap fix.

I'm pretty sure that gig was at The Forum in Kentish Town (or could have been in it's previous guise as The Town and Country Club). I was there. Really great night with Randy California, Lesley West, Steve Hunter and a load more, but Peter Haycock was just sublime and Livingstone Brown was outstanding.

One Control Hookers Green is a nice pedal IMO. I'm interested in trying a Caline Orange Burst which is very cheap but is meant to sound like a BB preamp.
-
I use my Genz Benz Streamliner 600 as my backup. I'd be happy to use it any time any gig. It has as much grunt as my main amp which I think is important. They're a cheap amp second hand and it seems the sound is a bit 'marmite', but I love the sound and I love marmite too.

I convinced myself to stop buying basses and amps but allowed myself to dabble with effects pedals but my God, I've taken to that like a duck to water!

No more Procrastination! (An interesting small valve head story)

I got mine used off the forum for £900. I think they are around £1500 new although I don't know if they're still being made. Weber get top notch reviews from their customers though and the Mywatt is a seriously good amp. -

I've got the Weber Mywatt 200 which is a clone of the Hiwatt. Fabulous sounding amp with the advantage of not weighing a ton and not being ridiculously expensive. Highly recommended for anyone looking for that sound. Sounds especially good with the Normal and Bright channels joined by a patch lead. -
I use my Keeley more as a limiter and the LED indicated that noon was about right for threshold with the gear I use and the way I play. I didn't like it to sound too squashed so the ratio was about right at noon too but like I said, I found the gain a bit lively (creating unwanted buzz) so knocked it back to around 10 o'clock. I like the pedal and it had a lot to live up to because it replaced a TC Electronic Nova Dynamics which was awesome. In some ways I wish I still had that but it was a bit big, 12v and total overkill.

I find the 'gain' a bit lively on my Keeley. I have it at about 10 o'clock and the other 2 dials at 12.

I use isolated supplies but some pedals share an outlet. I have one amp with a ground lift which helps, but my preferred amp has no ground lift which is a shame. It only seems to be an issue at a couple of venues though, so I generally knock off the volume on the guitar between songs. I doubt anybody else notices it anyway.
