  1. On the basses that I've had with that option, I've not been able to detect any difference. Others will tell you that the sustain/resonance or whatever, is vastly improved by stringing through the body.
  2. To check the nut slot heights, try holding the string down at the 3rd fret, there should be a slight gap then between the underside of the string and the top of the first fret. If there isn't a gap, then the slots are too deep and the strings will buzz when played open. If the gap is excessive then the slots need filing. The correct relief varies dependant on the fret board radius. I don't want to offend you but maybe it would be worth paying to get it set up properly, or do some research But I'm happy to answer questions and help as best I can.
  3. Yes too much relief can cause buzzing towards that end. It's very easy to end up going around in circles with this sort of problem. My advice would be carry out adjustments in this order: First off make sure that the strings are sitting comfortably and at the correct heights at the nut. Next adjust the truss rod to give the correct relief for your particular neck/fret board. Next adjust the string height at the bridge, ideally so that the strings follow the fret board radius.
  4. Try (temporarily) taking the action up a little higher on the A. If the buzzing is still present, use a little straight edge (Credit card or similar) spanning across three frets at a time and check for any rocking. You might find that one or more are a little high. Then report back
  5. Mono Bass Sleeve for me as well. Been using it regularly now for a few years and still as good as new.
  6. I tend to think of it as "Do I want to learn all of that" , rather than need. If you want to, then ultimately, it will almost certainly make you a better player than before.
  7. Lovely
  8. I'm in Herts. P.m. me if you would like to discuss.
  9. Well done for having the bottle to do it.
  10. I'm in Herts but that's a bit of a trek for you.
  11. My daughter has the same bass and I have to say that it sounds great with the standard pick ups. I was at a battle of the bands type event when she was on bass and it was the only bass that could be heard clearly. It is all stock but I have set it up for her and would happily gig it myself. So, I'm guessing it's likely to be a set up issue with your one. I would advise in the first instance, getting it set up properly and at the same time get those pick up springs sorted out. If it's still not to your liking, then would be the time to consider replacement pick ups.
  12. Going to have to dig out my old vinyl BW albums.
  13. First off, when you say it's one high fret, is it a fret that has visibly lifted slightly i.e. you can see a little gap between it and the fret board? If you can't actually see it with the naked eye, you can check by attempting to slide a thin piece of paper in there. Assuming there is a gap, then a smart tap with a small hammer will probably be all that's needed. If a levelling is required and it is only one fret, then a sharpie pen, sand paper, emery board (nail file), 120, 240, 320 and 400 grit paper, masking tape, should be all you need. Drop me a pm if you want any DIY instructions.
  14. It's great to read this kind of post
  15. Hope it's a good and successful day for all concerned
  16. First off, check to see that the E is sitting correctly in the nut slot and on the saddle. If not then get that sorted, if you can do it yourself great, if not, someone who can. Don't think you need to worry about neck issues by going up to a 100 gauge, although I can't imagine that it will solve the issue that you are concerned about.
  17. Sounds like you've done a thorough job there
  18. Have to agree with this. For those of us adjusting/setting up instruments on a daily basis it would be ridiculous to do an 1/8th turn and then wait a day before another 1/8th turn.
  19. My loons were a 26" waist and a 32" flair
  20. Cool looking pair of P's
  21. If the amp has pre amp valves, I would suspect them. Also check that the fan is running and is not clogged with dust\debris.
  22. What a looker, you did well to find that one.
  23. Welcome to the forum. That is some special collection you have there
  24. If it's tight enough and holds, then that's the best option. If it does need adhesive, I would avoid superglue and go with a wood glue, such as tite bond.
