1. This is a change for Tech21. Usually they anounce something and you don't see it for sale for 18 months! Interesting wee amp...
2. http://forums.washbu...hp?topic=7797.0 Have one of these I'm thinking of selling if you'd be interested. Mine has a nicer top though!
3.
out of interest... if you had a mesa walkabout... 300w at 4ohms, 160w or so at 8 ohms, can push it to 2ohms if needed... which barefaced would you suggest? the retro 610? two retro210.
Walkabout sounds lush with one Retro Two10... I went 4 ohm to get the max from the walkabout, and as you mention it'll do 2 ohms!
4. Pick/pluck an inch closer to the neck with a lighter touch and turn the amp up a notch. Seriously, give it a try.
5. The saddle isn't supposed to tilt (i have the same model ubass as you I think), but it does very slightly due to the slight gap between the saddle and the slot and that was enough to give me back my E string which disappeared when I amplified mine. I've accepted the action as the nature of the beast, but sanding/filing down the saddle may be an option. Could improve the intonation a little in the process if you were careful about it. I think the ubass is a great idea, it's just been implemented really badly...
6. Nik at ceriatone is working on a single channel, small format ("lunchbox" as he calls it) B15 clone, final spec still to be settled. Their amps are usually available as kits so I'll be looking forward to that. He's said it'd be a little more expensive than his OTS Lunchbox (mini dumble), so I'd guess somewhere in the $400 region for the kit without valves or headshell, or $800 for a complete head.
7.
Thanks for that. It's reassuring you had the same problem with the difference in volume. I don't think I can justify the cost of trying another brand, so the whole U-Bass experiment may be at an end for me.
If you're interested in trying the pyramid roundwounds you can have mine for the price of postage...
8. I haven't had much of a chance to play my ubass since fitting these, but I was having terrible intonation problems with the G and D strings, much worse than usual and worse than I'd experienced on the standard strings and the roundwound pyramids. More investigation required, but I do quite like the feel and sound of these. For the folk with inconsistent string volumes, try refitting the strings, or loosening them off and tilting the bridge saddle a fraction (assuming you have the shadow combined saddle and pickup arrangement like I do).
9.
I've just ordered one with a slightly more elaborate spec, it's cosing me just over 1100 in total.
You can't just say that and swan off you know! This place has rules! Spill the beans!
10. This feels a little like the "you can't lick your own elbow" joke...
11. I'd it narrowed down to those 2 colours too... Now thinking Sherwood Green instead!
12. A clone of the Boss bass eq. Owned both in my time. Perform exactly the same so the HB is a bargain of a pedal!
13.
I have a rather special P in the pipeline as it happens...
...something for the Limelight thread perhaps?
14. Great review! If only Sire did a P-bass...
15. Owned an 8ohm version of this. Awesome, AWESOME cabinet. Buried everything else I've ever tried. Not physically much bigger than a 4x10, but WAY bigger where it counts, and weighs nowt. Get 'er bought somebody!
16. When I wanted small, light and valvey recently I went with a barefaced retro Two10 and Mesa Walkabout...
I am going to try and hunt down a big box Q-Tron+
Just be sure you can live with 24v supply and that HUGE box. They do sound AWESOME though!

I also meant volume boost - spike was a bad word to describe it! The mod is just adding a pot or trimmer between the output of the pcb and the footswitch. Not easy to do on the "micro" as the footswitch is on a ribbon cable. Easy on the mini though!
19.
Im in the "id like to play before buying" camp as ive never played an ibanez other than a btb 6 string over a period of a couple of weeks. Having said that gas does strange things. Its either the ff or the single cut. But i will give u a shout and u can call for a coffee and a play if i pull the trigger.
Surely coming from around these parts you were probably in the same boat buying your first Dingwall too?! I certainly was and, as you say, GAS is a strange mistress! Was THIS close (holds thumb and forefinger VERY close together) to flashing the credit card in Bassdirect's direction last night when they posted a sunburst super P4 on Facebook... But I remembered I actually quite like my man parts and wouldn't like having them removed by my wife with something blunt and rusty...

Filters are funny things. It's interesting that everyone who has tried to do what you're doing has different experiences and preferences. I tried the EHX Qtron (big box, mini and micro versions), broomstick bottom feeder, wonderlove, proton, GR and GR2 from 3Leaf, the aforementioned boss unit (detested it), the byoc envelope filter, zoom b3 (more than passable actually), and a few more I can't remember right now! My overall favourite sounding filter was actually an EHX big box Qtron, but couldn't put up with the size or the 24v power supply requirements so I've settled on a 3Leaf GR2 (like original GR too). You've got a great sounding filter in the mini if you can sort out the volume spike.
21.
Limelight Jazz owners, I need your help!! Does anyone know if the bodies Mark uses are 60s or 70s position pickup routs?
Having been through every pic here and on Mark's site, I don't recall seeing a single 70s-style jazz body. That doesn't mean he can't do you/source you one though! Shout him is your best bet - he was willing to do a '51 p bass when I asked!
22.
This looks like a possible purchase in the near future. I've had three Dingwalls but I've struggled with justifying thousands of quid tied up in one bass, so I let them go. So it's GAK then.
Keep me posted - interested in your thoughts if you decide to go down the Ibanez route!
23. Beautiful! Health to enjoy!

The Mini Qtron will be hard to beat - really fat and juicy. I modded 2 for Gareth Hughes of this parish to include a volume control - on one I took out the mode switch and put a pot in its place since it was always being run in low pass anyway. On the other I drilled a little hole and fitted a mini trim pot. One thing to note is that the mini qtron seems to be about the most unreliable pedal ever constructed, so if you go down that route buy a spare. I have one of the aforementioned modded pedals back with me to tinker with (when I get some free time) as it refuses to work half the time. Trying to figure out a way to ruggidise the design a bit. Probably start with off board pots and a rehouse (once I find a suitable enclosure!). There's absolutely no need for these pedals to be that size...
