1. I have no idea... If I had to guess I'd say 10, plus or minus a couple...
2. Maybe not the most obvious choice, but what about an Orange Terror bass? Can sound vintage and "tubey" with the gain low, or swap the valves for some lower gain ones for a more useful range of gain. One of my favorite amps. Some say they're tonally limited... but it's a good tone!
3. It would help if you listed what you've already tried and how big you're trying to scale up to. Maybe obvious, but why not go back to the Fender setup? I suspect I can guess why! I'd go with a trace V-type head (or pre and poweramp setup) into a sealed cab of some sort myself (or in my case a barefaced retro which is supposed to emulate something sealed).
4. May I be the first to say... Your choice of font is truly dreadful. Good luck with selling this beast though!
5. Lakland. No question. Best 5 string neck I've felt.
6. Love the look of De Gier basses. Not ENTIRELY sold on the headstock but I think it would grow on me!
7. If I didn't also have too much equipment I'd take this in a heartbeat... Can't believe it hasn't sold at this price...
8. The swamp thang is a very nice speaker. After much deliberation I put one in the D'lite combo I built for my brother a few years ago and it's perfect.
9. Interested in diy approach? I recall seeing a diy version somewhere on the internet for something similar to the pleasureboard. There's guys on YouTube making vibrating chairs for home cinema and gaming use which would be similar.
10. I prefer the GR2 I have now to the Wonderlove I had previously. Less fiddly and seems wetter. I really liked the big box qtron I had a few years ago but the 24v supply was an issue for me. Only 3leaf filter I haven't tried is the current proton. Maybe some day. Mostly liked the original version but the fixed decay wasn't for me - I actually modified mine for a longer decay (mine was the first of the first, Spencer later added an internal switch to select between 2 different values).
11.
Got my Grand Tarkin through today! Won in the Circuits To Cure Cancer auctions, I then had Tom customize the art! Apologies for the rudie: Si
Nice!
12. I remember one of the early midget reviews mentioning that the reviewer's guitarist was VERY impressed with it if that's any help...
13. By all accounts Burman are worth a look. I have a powerpak pre/poweramp setup, but I've yet to try it out with my retro 2x10...
14. Double post
15.
Ok, I've never played a lakland. Of any description
Sorry? Not sure I understand you? Nice Yam that!
16.
There's a bass?
Nope... No bass there...
17.
In the meantime I´m a bit further with my DIY basspreamp quest. The BP1 finds no use anymore. I´ve perfboarded a 3 stage FET preamp with with the intention to simulate the Bassman 135 preamp wit FETs. It has one volume control and a bright switch with 5 frequencies which sounds nice. After fiddling with a tonestack which I didn´t like I finally added a trusty workhorse EQ which I know very well from my studiowork. It´s a DIYed API553-stylee 3 band swinging input EQ. For techies: It´s inductor based, low and mid band proportional Q bell filters and a shelving HF filter. All bands have 3 switchable frequencies which are optimized for my basses. Finding the good sounding frequencies took 10hrs alone... The output stage is a Melcor DOA driving an API 2623 transformer. Here´s some porn, inside: http://www.directupl...qao7pgu_jpg.htm Outside, the one with the silver frontpanel: http://www.directupl...8mifzzz_jpg.htm No tubes, sorry.... The single G9 PTP Basspre is in the works, too. The layout and most of the drillwork is done, turretboard stuffed... Pictures to follow...
Good work! Looking forward to seeing your ptp G9 when it's done!
18. Yummy!
19. That's lovely! Health to enjoy!
20.
Ironically I am almost tipping into going into software front ends instead of hardware. I already am sorted for preamps, but it does look nice!
Yes it does, and given the price I'm sure it'll be popular.
21.
He has just replied to my email and has a 230v one ready to go. I do not need a new pre.
Getting tempted Owen?
22.
This thread title is going to be really confusing in a few months' time...
Interesting...
23. Micah's builds look excellent. He also does a rackmount version of the octling preamp called the Zepher. B15 based, so it's a baxandall tone stack, but with a few extras like a range control (shifts the bax stack frequency), a bass cut switch, separate volumes for unbalanced and balanced out. There's a few review videos on YouTube of it. Arkham Zephyr Tube Bass Preamp: http://youtu.be/6XSprMsphhA Micah posted a gut shot of the zepher over on " the forum which shall not be named" - I've reverse engineered it already and will be building one as a starting point for my own preamp. The octling looks like great value.
24.
Interesting, last month I ordered something quite similar which also had the higher price (around £1200). 1966 Fender Jazz in Sherwood green with rosewood board & pearl blocks, matching headstock, butterbean tuners, light relic - BUT - it going to be a PJ, with vol/blend/tone, and an ashtray over the front P pickup, with a custom pearl jazz pickguard. It was based on the Fender Adam Clayton model I really like the look of:
Interesting... Dreaming of a Sherwood Green P with matching headstock, rosewood board, light to medium relic with tort guard and a pair of Thunderbuckers...
25. Lovely preamps these. Sold mine when I got my Ashdown LB30 so didn't really miss it... Until I sold the LB30, then I missed them both!
