The Ashdown chap, Mark, who appears in their videos certainly said it was all valve a few times, and I'm pretty sure it used to say all valve on their website. edit: infact it still does - "15 Watts All Tube Mini Bass Amp Head" http://ashdownmusic....-Shop/13/CTM15/ I certainly brought my thinking it was all valve...
That's naughty... bordering on downright lies... Internal pic: http://www.gitarreba...AshdownCTM15-01 There are 4 valve locations on the PCB, only 3 are populated (I remember reading somewhere that the CTM15 shares its PCB with one of the Hayden line of guitar amps which populates the 4th position with one of those magic eye valves. EDIT: It's the Hayden Mini MoFo 15). At an educated guess I'd assume that's the 2 EL84s and the phase inverter. The preamp will be run by the little boxes of sand next to the input jack... I've never tried a CTM15, and this wouldn't put me off. The vast majority of my "noise boxes" are solid state only after all! But the OP was looking ALL VALVE - this isn't it. It's hybrid done a different way. I'd be very interested to know WHY it was done this way Mr. Ashdown?
Just arrived, nine days after ordering it. Plays really really sweet out of the box, just had to tune it and google the setup of the array of controls at my disposal. Haven't had to touch action or the neck. Can't believe I've just paid around £320 for this total gem. I'm a passive bass player, and as such I'm not well read or rehearsed on active electronics but I have to say the ability to sweep the mids and control the level too is a cool feature when the active is engaged. Can't really say much more than has already been said by others. Another satisfied customer. Sire need to produce a P bass. That's one I would be buying too.
Glad you're happy with yours Mike. Love mine to bits!

Sire will be doing a p-bass - at least they said they were planning to when I asked! So get the wallets ready!

Ashdown dropheads are stupidly expensive compared to the separate head/cab combination. Be aware that the CTM15 is NOT all valve. It's a solid state pre and valve power. Like Gareth (Walbassist) I'd recommend you go for their 30 watter the CTM30. I had an LB30 for a while but sold it in a moment of madness. When Merton of this parish bought a CTM30 I followed suit. Magic wee amp and a fraction of the price of Ampeg's recently announced pf20 and pf50.

Barefaced Retro810. . . . . form an orderly queue
I'd like a Four10 too.... Hmm, do we petition Alex?
Yeah let's do it! First little prod sent via contact form! -

Bigwan replied to chris_b's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have to say I love my 2x10 so far, but I'd REALLY love a retro Four10. It'd be more cab than I'd ever need. I know I could just buy another 2x10, but it'd be light enough for me to carry one handed, small enough to fit in the boot of my golf without cracking seats down (6x10 wouldn't be) and loud enough to do any gig I've EVER done... Maybe it'll happen... -

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
Bigwan replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
Not as wide, tighter (and constant) radius (skyline 5s have a compound radius if I remember right), normal back shape as opposed to the asymmetric shape of the skyline... So really not much like a skyline at all! -
I'm seriously thinking about getting a swamp ash 5, these look great.
Don't. Don't think about it. Honestly. Just do it! -

So I asked the question... And received the answer via Facebook PM yesterday... Sire DO plan to release a P-bass. But can't say when or anything about the specs. -
NAD and NCD- warning heavy old Ampeg content
Erm, time to 'fess up I think....just a wee bit too heavy to be practical but I've certainly got the valve/large cab bug I fear
Good golly that is magnificent... -
This particular model makes me wish I could get along with Ibanez Soundgear string spacing...
An interesting note is that Sheehan thanks EBS in the sleeve notes (obviously due to his EBS Sheehan pedal) but then thanks Suncoast Analog, who interestingly make the B1p preamp, a pedal-sized clone of the Pearce preamps that Sheehan uses. So it would be interesting to know which one he is using to snarl through - EBS or Suncoast!
Having seen a few iterations of Billy's rig it could very well be both! He used 2 of the EBS pedals anyway so one of them may have been ousted.
Does he just stick to tradition fender styles? I've been thinking about a precision with an old Thunderbird pick-up in the bridge for some time now. Maybe with a Jazz neck.... Talk about a Frankenbass!
Sounds great! I've been considering a precision with 2 t'bird pickups myself...
I just treated myself to a Phil Jones Headphone amp. Covers all the requirements that you listed.
+1 Not the cheapest, but sounds GREAT.

With a grand to spend there's only one thing I'd do with it - Aguilar DB750...
I found the Proton a bit too subtle also, but much preferred it to the Wonderlove, I just couldn't dial in a good sound to fit my playing with that pedal. The Groove Regulator blows both of them away though I reckon. I've not had a chance to try the GR2 but word is it's even better - and since one went up for sale in the classifieds today and they don't come up that often, I advise you to jump on it!
I would second the GR2 recommendation. I've owned an early proton, which I liked but it didn't have enough control over the envelope for my liking, but the newer version seems better. I've owned all the bigger 3 leaf filters except the newest version of the wonderlove. The GR2 was the best for me. Easy to dial in and sounds awesome! BUT There's another cull of gear coming and it might go due to lack of use... For all the effects I actually use I may as well stick to my Zoom B3.
also looking out for PB50s (i know i shouldn't), got an idea for swapping the pickup out for a filtertron or something a bit different
Funny that makes 2 of us! -
I love its aggressive tone and the EQ has massive amounts of adjustment - all of which I ignore and leave centred.
The preamp is probably the one thing that would detract from the appeal of this bass for me - I absolutely HATE the Darkglass drive pedals (I've owned the B3K, B7K and VMT). They all have something in the upper midrange that I was unable to dial out no matter how hard I tried. I'm wondering if this has the same quality... Off to try and find soundclips...
