Sire V7 MM Bass. Controls designed by a blind 5 year old?
Bigwan replied to logicred's topic in Bass Guitars
Why buy something without even trying it first?
Because they aren't stocked anywhere in the UK... -
Sire V7 MM Bass. Controls designed by a blind 5 year old?
Bigwan replied to logicred's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't usually do active basses but had no issues with mine. I agree the controls do protrude a bit! For the price I'll not be doing too much complaining! -
Just landed myself a GR2...instantly useable Sounds' Ooze from this filter...it appears to have a lot more sound options...than The V2 proton' ive had on my board for over a year...time for a change.
Good choice! About the best filter out there in my (more limited than some people's) experience! Having said that I still think of the Moog occasionally!
Having done a bit more basic research on this, it looks like the CTM 15 does have a single 12ax7 as a preamp. Then two valves for the power section.
Did you read the rest of the thread, or look at the pics linked? It DOES NOT have a valve preamp. It has a valve power section and a valve phase inverter. From the pictures there are clearly multiple opamps and (shock horror) transistors in the preamp (2 opamps and 4 transistors from a cursory glance)...

Fender Roscoe Beck 5 is pretty meaty...
Having something custom built is likely to be too expensive and will probably take a few months to build too. I'm looking for something that will keep me going until I have surgery. Then I'll go back to my regular basses. So a custom build won't meet either of those criteria.
Understandable! How about a violin bass? Can't be more than 5lbs?
-
I have the kala and the HB version (a b-stock deko - cost £40 delivered). Neither will satisfy the itch for an actual bass. While I wouldn't call them toys, they're... A different instrument let's say. Alan at ACG was looking into lightweight designs. I think he was getting into the 5lb ballpark. Give him a yell.
Thanks Dood, I swapped it for a Roscoe 6 string that Dan was after. He has had an after-market preamp put in which make it a bit more sonically versatile. As I split my time between children and partner it made sense for me to have a Dingwall in each house so that I have one wherever I gig. That's what I tell myself, anyway.
Best multiple bass excuse I've heard!

USA MM Sub5 would fit the bill from memory... Edit: and now I've read the rest of the thread it would seem you already know that!

The new Metallica album : news from Kirk
Bigwan replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Also interesting to note that they are recording it piecemeal - Hetfield and Ulrich doing the drums and guitars in full, and then Kirk goes in to do his stuff.
Always was the way Metallica worked, at least until St. Anger. -

Lace Alumitone.... pickup question for my main bass.
Bigwan replied to LukeFRC's topic in Bass Guitars
Check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MjL76WzMVQ Seems cool enough. Would make fretwork and setup more difficult however!
That's a new one on me! The Lace Helix bass we've been discussing had a perfectly normal (if somewhat donkey appendage-like) neck, despite the somewhat wacky body shape. I stand by the price-point comment. A twist neck bass would be orders of magnitude more difficult to make than even a fanned fret bass neck! -
Lace Alumitone.... pickup question for my main bass.
Bigwan replied to LukeFRC's topic in Bass Guitars
The Lace Helix series of basses had exactly that - a helix neck, which rotated on the long axis away from the player at the nut. This was supposed to help players play better by lessening the amount of wrist pronation necessary to fret the lower notes next to the nut. Like anything else, it worked for some players and not for others. A bass luthier in Texas, Jerome Little, does essentially the same thing with his basses, which he calls a "Torzal" neck: littleguitarworks.com
Err... Don't think so... Think you might be getting it confused with something else. The price point alone would suggest manufacture of such a bass impossible. -
I was underwhelmed by the B3K but it looks like we're in the minority!

I know I'm in the minority but I really don't like the tone of Darkglass pedals.

Vive la Resistance!!!
Me too! Strangely the best sounding pedal to me from these examples is the Darkglass VMT, which I HATED when I owned it! And don't even get me started on the B3K... Yuk! I couldn't pick a favourite from any of those I'm afraid. I'll stick to my Ashdown J-Lo as it's the best subtle drive I've used.
Well lets just say its the Donkeys Mr Winky
And by describing a bass neck thus you mean... -
I don't have any problem with hybrid amps, if they had sold it as a hybrid I would have still brought one. What I do have a problem with is being lied to. Why do I get the feeling that we're not going to get a further response from Mr Ashdown. Anyway we've gone slightly off topic here....
I'd be the same - I couldn't care less what's going on inside as long as an amp sounds the part! It could have been a unique selling point, but apparently telling porkies is better advertising...

Damn... Missed the PB-50 AGAIN... -

You have to crank them (CTM15) right up to hear them alongside a drummer, and with the input gain down and master up almost maxed, all you hear is the power stage distortion anyhow, so whether the pre is SS is moot really.
Not moot when they're telling people it's all valve! Hayden sell the Mini MoFo (the guitar version which uses the same PCB as previously discussed) as "15 watts of all valve power" and "ECC 83 tube preamp" which is sailing a bit close to the wind too!
