  1. I think it takes time to find your way into a music scene. Don't give up. Go to open mike nights and keep advertising for band members in all the places suggested above. I had a 10 year break from playing, starting again about 2003. It took me 5+ years to get enough contacts to get regular gigs. I now play in a couple of blues/rock bands and another occasion function band that does only a handful of gigs a year. I also get called for the odd dep gig. If you're wanting to play original stuff it might be different and I can't really help there as I've only played in one originals band in the last few years. I hope this encourages you even a little. Frank.
  2. Yep. No cab GAS here at all. Although those One 10s look interesting... Frank.
  3. I previously had a G1 Compact and Midget. They were fantastic cabs, either singly or paired, and I didn't think they could be bettered! I was wrong. My G3 BB2 and Super Midget are even better. Frank.
  4. Haha. Very funny. Good sports indeed. Frank.
  5. Posted by stevie. "What exactly was the point of that post?" Churlish. And I'm being kind here. Frank.
  6. Agreed discreet. A combo is very handy. As said above, I have an AER amp two but also an Eden EC28. The Eden is really excellent for tone and volume but maybe not quite in the Markbass CMD121P league for volume. Tone from the Eden is top drawer though and decent volume to boot. My choice would still be the Markbass. Frank.
  7. I don't get Earth or Fire, although I do get Wind. Frank.
  8. Having typed all the above, I then remembered the Barefaced one10. One of those with a micro head must be the ultimate in light weight and portability. I've used Barefaced cabs since 2009 ish and swear by them but I haven't heard the One10 yet. Frank.
  9. I had one of those years ago. Great sound but not loud enough at times. And very heavy. Heavier than your Fender and not as useful in my opinion. AER are a different league altogether but again, heavy. I have an AER amp two. It's easily loud enough for any gig and sounds amazing for such a tiny combo. But.. expensive. I'd lean more to an AER amp one or three to save weight (And cost). But all the AERs are stunningly good. The Markbass 2 x 8 combo looks interesting too. I foolishly sold my MB CM121P. That was brilliant and loud enough to gig with a drummer and an easy carry. That's what I'd buy again in your situation. Frank.
  10. From this to TC combo! Are you mad? Frank.
  11. That's beautiful. I hope you enjoy it. Frank.
  12. They are excellent, especially the latest versions. Mine was a 1998sh - 5 tuners in a row and it played and sounded great. I've liked every one I've played in the last few years; but they've all been well set-up. Frank.
  13. I used to love tractors, but not any more. I'm an extractor fan. Say it out loud. Frank.
  14. Well I didn't like to mention AER Dan due to the cost... But I have an AER amp two and it's an amazing combo. It's hard to describe but the sound - it's clear, massive and LOUD. I absolutely love my amp two. The only drawback is the weight. At 50bs it's a little heavy to carry over any distance. But the tone is as good as it gets. Highly recommended. Frank.
  15. I find that the tone control on a passive bass makes a huge difference to your tone and the overall feel of the notes. That combined with using different plucking styles and positions is what makes all the difference for me. Frank.
  16. These are great. Lovely warm sound and, as said above, enough volume for most pub gigs. Enjoy your new toy. Frank.
  17. I've had one of these for a good few years now. They are excellent basses and, in my opinion, will be sought after in the future. You got it for a great price too. Frank
  18. Hehe. You bad people. Funny. Frank.
  19. Luke. I've yet to try the Walkabout with the BB2 but I'll try it soon and let you know. I can't imagine the Walkabout sounding bad with any cab. Frank.
  20. Yikes! Below 8000. Age 58. The result of a lifetime working in shipbuilding. Frank.
  21. Totally agree JT. Although my Streamliner 900 is class D and a pretty loud and beefy amp too. I tend to use the Streamliner with my Barefaced Super Midget and that tiny rig is killer for smaller pub gigs when space is tight. When there's space it's always the Thunderfunk and BF Big Baby 2 for the depth and sheer balls. Frank.
  22. JTUK - why don't you just answer mike257s question? All this speaking in riddles you like to indulge in, is just unhelpful. You're right off the runway now. Frank.
  23. No EBS_freak, I'm PMSL at it. Best thread of the year and it's only February. Frank.
  24. Just stumbled upon this old thread and nosied around a bit and discovered that this amp is now MINE!! I bought it last year off Silverfoxnik. And everything above about Thunderfunk amps is, in my opinion, absolutely true. What a wonderful amp. Paired with my Barefaced Big Baby 2 it's the best sounding rig I've ever owned. My Mesa Walkabout hasn't been used at all since the Thunderfunk arrived - that's how good the Thunderfunk is! (Very different sounding amps though, and both are brilliant.) Frank.
  25. Just got the album. Outstanding! Also try the Steeldrivers, his previous band. Frank.
