  1. I have a BB2 and it's easily loud enough powered by 300 watts. I used to use my original BF Compact at 8 ohms/ 300 watts from a Little Mark II and that was LOUD too. I think you should be fine. Frank.
  2. Oh yes. Great viewing. Frank.
  3. Haha. Brilliant! I actually have a pair of those that I use at work. Great idea. Frank.
  4. I agree with Lewis. The 74 RI is quite a deep U shape. Deeper and more chunky than my 2010 US Standard for example. I have 75 Reissue and it has the nicest possible neck if you like them slim. I love mine. I'd go for a 75 RI over a 74 RI based on your preference for a slimmer neck. Frank.
  5. Yes, it matters a lot to me. Having sad that, performance matters quite a bit more. I would buy a cab that looked less sharp but performed to my requirements, but I would never buy a great looking cab that didn't. Frank.
  6. Nonsense largo. There are threads about every make of everything - why pick on a thread about one particular make? Frank.
  7. A good decision and one I don't think you'll regret at all. Frank.
  8. Kevin, I always use the BB2 where there's space. If it's tight or a small pub I use the SM. For bigger rooms I use both, but this rare. (Although I used both for last Saturday nights gig. It sounded massive.) Both cabs use the same driver and seem OK together. This set-up effectively gives you three rigs. Frank.

Bobthedog posted: I have just ordered a Big Twin, I guess that sort of balances things. :-) I've been using Barefaced cabs continually since 2009. I guess that balances it a little more. I wouldn't touch Aguilar or TKS cabs though - they look awful. Frank.
  10. Not wanting to make your envy any worse JapanAxe, but I owned one of the first Compacts (G1) from new and loved it, a great cab then and still is now. But the BB2 I now own is an improvement over the previous models. I haven't heard a Super Compact, but I assume it must sound similar to a BB2 with the horn turned off. If that is correct, I think you'd like the Super Compact. Frank
  11. Fair enough JTUK. If you don't like the Barefaced look, then that's obviously very important to you. The tone of the 12" cabs is too clean and revealing for some players. I can totally understand that. (I can't use the quote thingy for some reason?) Frank.
  12. Good to hear you're liking your SC. Why not buy a Super Midget for even more versatility? Frank.
  13. JTUK... do you not like the tone of the Barefaced cabs you've played? Frank.
  14. JTUK... is it the tone of the Barefaced cabs that you don't like? Frank.
  15. I have had the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz humbucker pickups in one of my Fender jazzes for a few years. They are well worth a listen. (Just to complicate things ) Frank
  16. If you're used to a Jazz then the ergonomics of an LX4 will feel very different. Not in a bad way, but the most noticeable thing for me is that you have to reach about two frets farther to reach the first fret on an LX4. This isn't a problem unless your arms are too short but I found swapping back from a Jazz to an LX4 that I hit the third fret when I meant to fret the first fret. After a while you get used to the longer reach. Frank.
  17. If a BB2 isn't loud enough (and I do understand what you mean) then it's time to DI into the PA. However, I know how good a pair of speakers can sound. That's why I also have a Super Midget to pair with my BB2. Frank
  18. I believe this was once mine many years ago, and a wonderful instrument it is. It originally came with an Aguilar preamp (which is still somewhere in my house!) but the U retro is superb. Whoever buys this will not be disappointed. Frank.
  19. I can't imagine ever needing a pair of BB2s. One is very loud indeed although, a part of me fancies try two. Just a thought... I have a BB2 and a Super Midget. That's three rigs - small, medium and overkill. Maybe add a SM for more flexibility? Frank
  20. My 75RI has a natural ash body with rosewood fretboard. The pearl block markers look superb and I much prefer it to the maple fret board version. The thing that sets the 75RI apart is the neck. Mine has the best neck of any bass I've owned or played. Much more to my taste than the fatter neck on the 74RI that replaced it. And much nicer even than my 2010 US Standard Jazz. I've owned my 75RI since about 2008 and, although I only gig it at "posh" venues, I'd hate to have to part with it. It's 99% as-new and I try to keep it that way. To me, they are a bit special so, in a way, I'm not too surprised that they hold their value well. Maybe not just as well as some sellers hope. Frank.
  21. Haha. I never thought about "the fingers" in that way. Now it's all I'll think about when the singest uses it. Frank.
  22. Lovely bass Chris. You can't beat that colour combo. Frank.
  23. I get introduced as "Frank the Fingers" which made me cringe in embarrassment at first. Now I just laugh at myself and play along with the fun. Frank.
  24. I'm thinking about building my own amp in the near future . If I get to half as professional looking as yours I'll be very happy. Impending redundancy will give me more time to pursue such things. I'm looking forward to it. Excellent work. Frank
  25. I had a G1 Compact and two G2 Midgets. All good alone or in any combination. I now have a G3 Super Midget and a G3 BB2. Either of these cabs are fine for pubs, but the BB2 especially is amazing. They are monstrous together and seem to work really well as a pair. A single BB2 is enough 99% of the time for me. (Two guitars, keys and drums.) Frank.
