2. There's a review of the Jonas Hellborg range in the latest Bass player. The person reviewing was VERY impressed. Sounds like amazing gear.
3.
The guy rang me to say that the head section has broken away from the main cab section and obviously it doesn't work.
Unfortunately, I think you've probably been had. For a combo to be so badly handled that the chassis has either cracked or the head pushed out of the housing, there would have to be obvious signs of damage on the box, if there was even any box left! The buyer should have refused delivery of the goods. If it were me, I'd have told the buyer to wait whilst I discussed the matter with the courier company. I'd have wanted photos, etc... As it stands, you now have to hoep that he plays ball and supplies the faulty item back to the courier company to allow the claim to proceed. They also have a very fixed and usually limited period in which to claim, so if the buyer drags his feet, you'll be out of luck.
4.
Did the other guy (the buyer) sign anything on receipt of the amp? If so, that's his word to say the item arrived in A1 condition. I always ask any buyers to open and inspect the goods while the driver is there... they ARE obligated to wait for you to assess any damage. It's the buyer who should claim for damages, not you. Maybe too quick to refund and you might find yourself out of pocket on this. Ask the buyer to return the amp to you after he has taken some photographs of the damage caused. Hopefully the couriers company will accept blame on your word and it will be smooth. However, they will be under pressure from their insurance company to go by the book which means if the parcel was signed as being in top condition then there's not alot you can do about it.
My experience on lost or damaged items is that the sender is person who paid for shipping and therefore has a contract with the shipping company. They usually won't even entertain a claim request from the receiver.
5. Phoned the shop on Tuesday and spoke to someone. Might have been him.
6. I salivated over this bass many a time. The wife even sanctioned it's purchase, but alas, common sense got the better of me.
7. I joined my first covers band last January after nearly 15 years of only really doing originals. It was great, while it lasted. Granted the stuff we were doing is a bit different to your average pub rock covers (Steve Vai, Planet X, Dream Theater) but it's a completely different skill to working on original material. Gigs are generally pretty easy to come by, so if you're itching to get out and play live and your original bands aren;t that audience friendly or are having line-up hassles (our problem), then it can be an easy way to get your gigging fix. Lastly it can be quite the ego boost. Audiences often don't really pick up of the nuances of your playing with original material, but if you go out and cover a song with bass parts that your average punter concedes are pretty tricky, then you get loads of pats on the back. Great fun. Still, nothing is more satisfying than original material.
8. Does anyone here own a Tech TVM Head or TecAmp Tiger or combo with whom I could discuss a technical problem? I'd rather not air the problem publicly......yet.
9.
crazy, i dont know why anyone would ever trade their gt6b for that
£150 - £180 second hand price on a GT6B. £75- 90 second hand price on a unichorus 2 x EBS pedals therefore equals a fair swap for a GT6B Sometimes, it pays to do your research before you post unhelpful comments. Even better, don't post them at all.
10. The other possibility is that you have an insufficient break angle over the nut because your strings are wound too high on the tuning peg - unlikely though. A proud fret is another possibility. I doubt it's anything to do with playing style if you hear the noise before you even strike a string.
11. It's likely to be insufficient relief in the neck - You need to slacken off the truss rod a tad. Rather than me re-type and make a mistake or copy and paste and take the credit, have a look at the Gary Willis website for a very good explanation Gary Willis
12.
I'm very interested in this thread also. Has anyone tried/owned one of these; http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info%5fN15S%2ehtml cheers guys Al.
This would actually be my choice Eden Silver Series N12S 175W 1x12 Bass Combo Same power handling as the 15, but a bit smaller and lighter and I prefer the sound of 12s. Only £25 over your budget and you might be able to persuade the shop to either meet halfway for cash or chuck something else in. Add a second cabinet for the extra 55Watts and more speaker cone surface area.
13. How many people do ou know who get given 2 laptops for Christmas?
14. Basses - I'm happy, although I would very much like a Fender jazz fretless that felt and sounded as good to me as my main bass. I'm cursed where amps are concerned - either never been able to hear myself properly or owned amps that are unreliable. Once you experience a piece of equipment fail on you, it's very hard to resist the urge to just get rid of it ASAP and buy something new. I'm going through this at the moment with my Tech heads, but I've managedto restrain myself and get them check into a local repairer for a full service.
15. Sounds like you've got the shield and the common mixed up
GROUNDING NOTE Every pickup has at least 2 wires, call them Hot and Common. Normally the Hot is white or red colored. Common must be connected to our board at the screw connector. In the picture below the connections are, starting at the side closest to the plate, Neck Hot, Neck Common, Bridge Hot, and Bridge Common. If you have a 3rd wire and it is a braided shield, this is a Ground wire and can be connected to the Cavity Ground. Do NOT connect the Common wire of the Pickups to the Cavity Ground. Doing so would increase the power pull and cause distortion. If you have 4 wires you may have two Hot wires for split coils. Check with the pickup manufacturer on how to connect the 4 wire pickups for parallel or series operation.
16.
well from what I recall...did you not buy this off yourself on ebay for £250? link: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7120&st=20
There's a grovelling apology at the bottom of his post. My friend has one of these with a Trace Elliot mini 15" cab - not matching, but it does help. I can ask him if he's still interested in sellingand get a price, seeing as there are three people interested.
17. I would also add that before you do anything in homage to Michael Angelo, you listen to at least one Nitro track before deciding on whether it's a good idea.
18. I have an EMS400 modular racking system, consisting of 2 3U racking kits capable of producing a 6U rack, that I'd like to trade for a pair of smaller rack bags. The EMS rack is very nice and sturdy- made from the same material as riot shields.
19. I did say only striking one note per string and whilst technically a sweep can only involve two strings, I'd doubt you'd get many NAMM bookings if that's all there was in your repertoire.
20. You'd better be really, really, really, really good before you even contemplate a technique like that live. I've also seen bass players using that techniquelive and the topic of conversation amongst the audience quickly changed from comments about the band to a discussion of whether said bass player was born out of wedlock.
21.
I just did a YouTube search for "bass sweep picking"... first time I've seen any, but yeah, it's being done. Fingerstyle too.
Sweep picking invoves playing an arpeggio across all 4/5/6/7 strings, striking only the 1 note per string. The difficult bit, as demonstrated by the guy above is getting an accurate sweep in both directions- he can sweep upwards (towards body), but downwards is clearly causing him problems.
