I don't think it has anything to do with Black Friday but I recently got a hard copy of Thomann's latest deals through the post and was surprised to see this ; http://www.thomann.d...cd356092714fd18 I've been using one of the regular models for years and I still paid more than this for it! Anyone looking for a tone shape/DI pedal really should consider one of these at this price. There's already a discussion about it on the effects section but I thought it warrented a wider audience.

Never mind the cities, I think I did 5 counties at various points - Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire & Staffordshire!

Doubt I've ever been a perfect anything in my life but yes, always on best behaviour when out with fellow bc'ers. The gig was rather good, as hopefully any other of our bretherin who were there will confirm. The old black country fella can still knock out a surprisingly good quality vocal when the mood takes him. Speaking of vocals, the girl fronting the support band (The Last Internationale) has some admirable pipes on her too.
Funny you should say that - I'm very much reminded of the young Celine Dion.
It's the flat chest, an easy mistake for anyone to make.

Isn't anyone else getting a 'young Jack Bruce' vibe from that photo?

How about a new section to the forum to discuss music ?

Isn't there a long running 'what are you listening to now?' thread? -
I went in a card shop looking for a birthday card for a mate, start of last week in October. They were playing xmas music. I walked straight out without buying anything.

Ep 5 - did I spot some serious Ric abuse around the 25 min mark?

I'll be setting the hard disc recorder and keep it for a while. If it doesn't end up on iPlayer for some reason anyone who misses it can send me a blank DVD disk and I'll post it back with the programme on it.

Will try to catch that. A couple of weeks ago I popped in to a local jam night and as they got me up to do some blues i made them finish the 3 song set with Crossroads. I didn't play it anywhere near the live Cream version but it was my little tribute to the man.

As a player I always think of Daisley as a Precision man but I recall seeing his website a couple of years ago and it's obvious he's a pretty avid collector of many types. I already have a jazz bass I'm very happy with so I won't be emailing him and offering £400 for it.

Amplifier trolleys - your suggestions
I bought one of these,https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/csta100-fully-folding-sack-truck It's doing sterling service for my kit, 90kg capacity is pretty good too. Matt
That's the design I use, though I think the source I posted a link to in post #22 was a bit cheaper? -
As I said in the other thread when his last effort came up on youtube it isn't a million miles away from latter day Scott Walker.

These things sadly do happen. We turned up to a pub a few months back that we'd played before only to find another ban's gear piled on the performing area. Their name was on the blackboard outside yet we had a piece of paper confirming we were playing. As they were 'advertised' we stood down and went home. Landlord/manger conveniently on holiday. Apparently very apologetic when he got back in the country and said he'd give us a bonus next time we played there. Never got it of course. We do have a few possible bookings at the venue next year though.

For someone who doesn't like pedals etc...
KevB replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
It's always the knob in front of the rig that you have to watch out for though -
I was never a big Queen fan and mostly just used to see them on TOTP. It wasmany years later that I got the impression he was seen as a 'Fender man' as there seemed to be so many videos of him playing stingrays.

As I've been gigging a bit more over the last 2 years than previously the potential for breakdown has been at the back of my mind for a while. If I had a sudden fail on the night I have no backup (though neither does the guitarist or vox/2nd guitar) since the band PA is pretty basic and wouldn't stand up to me DI'ing through my Bassattack pedal. I used to take a backup amp to all my gigs years ago and it never got used so I sold it in the end. I don't have my main combo routinely serviced either. In fact I don't recall ever having it serviced and I must have had it 10 years by now, it wasn't new when I got it. Then again I don't bounce it down flights of stairs or anything. Are there any decent quality small lightweight bass amps that would do a reasonable job which don't require a second mortgage to purchase? My backup was a Behringer 4500H but it was a bit of a lump to haul around as a backup. Wouldn't want to pay much more than that for an emergency.

Better than I expected I must say.

Not a gig but an odd experience. Ended up in a pub I've not been in for nigh on 10 years, maybe longer. Turns out that now it's being run by a couple of semi retired ex pro/semi pro muso's. Looked like the booked band had let them down so they got a drummer mate in and a harp player (who I'd actually jammed with on Thurs night at an open mic) and just filled in from the stuff they knew. I was with some mates and we stayed in there rather than move on as it was getting late. Chatted to the band during the half time break then as the second set wound up we were getting up to go and the bass player asked me to get up on stage and I ended up guesting for their encore. No idea what it was, some blues tune that I just improvised over. Seemed to go down OK though.

Knotted hankie tucked away in shorts pocket perhaps?

Get to a point where you (and perhaps your teacher if you are having lessons) are condifent in your playing then pop down to a local jam/open mic night and start to put out feelers to get to play with other musos. Initially just watching other 'normal folks' get up and do it can be an inspiration in itself.

Geddy Lee playing with The Who. Have we done this yet?
KevB replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
I'd assume Geddy would do The Seeker a la Feedback EP but maybe he's got a few more of Ox's lines down well enough too. I assume he'd be singing as well so may be has to pick those he can do reasonable justice to both vocally and on bass? -
I was down there last night doing a few songs at their jam night. The PA sounded pretty awful tbh and I had to make a point after the first song I sang to get my vox monitor up to audible level, got a few 'OOOh handbags' noises from the audience but it was dreadful. I'm sure it's just the lad behind the desk not knowing what he's doing so I'm sure you'll be fine tonight, you've played there plenty of times before.
Buying a top end bass is not just about the quality of the instrument itself, it also has a lot to do with identifying yourself with the brand of instrument you have chosen to play in public... Some would look upon a Fodera player as a man with an uncompromising taste for quality... others would see a guy wtih more money than sense...
Pretty much this, and it's not confined to basses or even music. People show exactly this type of behaviour with things like cars all the time.
