1. Could adapt it to a 'Wolverine' instead maybe?
2. I was at that gig in B'ham that was later released as 'Come Hell or High Water'. Blackmore's a moody b@stard at best but it degenerated into unprofessionalism that night. His apparent resentment at a cameraman getting 'too close' was supposed to be why he threw the water. Most of it ended up over Gillan's wife who was in the wings, you can imagine how that went down RB's been happy doing his medieval minstrelly stuff with his (admittedly rather attractive) younger wife for the thick end of 20 years now. Satriani briefly stood in for Blackmore for a few far east shows that were already booked when he finally left for the last time in '94ish. Morse came in a little later and the first album he appears on is purpendicular in '96.
3. Or you can try it in real time for some whacky 'hall of mirrors' effects; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg9Ph53ka2I
4. I think the 'etiquette', if there was one, for sites like mysongbook for guitarpro files (when it was all free and before they blocked the files) was for updates to be created as a new iteration so rather than chageing someone else's file and then reloading under the same name it would be called 'version 2' or whatever and the original one remained. There was also a rule that you couldn't make changes to other files until you had personally submitted 5 or 6 from scratch yourself, think this stopped casual troublemakers just going in and making stupid changes for a laugh. I visited mysongbook for the first time in years the other day, it seems to have gone all corporate and they now charge for downloading guitarpro files, presumably its the only way they got round the copyright quibbles that forced them to block the files on the original site.
5. I hope it's not the one they released as 'Last Concert in Japan' with Bolin barely being able to play with a dodgy arm - it's bloody awful!
6. I'm in a pub covers band that also do a few parties and weddings so we don't really do 'fans'. A few might come to see us at different venues but most of our work comes from playing the same 2 or 3 venues very regularly so it's difficult to assess. I expect mostly they are there at that venue week in week out to see some live music irrespective of who is playing. We still get to chat with them and we pick up wedding or party bookings based on what they see in the pub gigs. But we are under no pretence that they are 'our fans'.
7. Probably not a bad test, if a pedal isn't up to jiffy bag+British postal service then it's probably unfit for serious gigging

Midlands Bass Bash 2

I'll have to check nearer the date but it's possible. Despite me trying to diet, if 'The Lady Of The Cake' (aka Mrs Sharman) comes up with the goods like last year it may be difficult to stay away.
9.
The most animated person was the bass player, so it looks like I'll be taking her role on in more ways than one!
You knew those skirts would come in handy one day.
10. A mate of mine introduced me to Max Webster's stuff a few years back as he'd been a big fan. Kim Mitchell a bit of an underrated guitarist. I was surprised how Zappa-esque some of their material was. I think they were on one of the 1979 TOTP's programmes from last year, their only appearance and slightly incorrectly introduced as 'The Max Webster Band'.
11.
On the original topic - drove to a gig and found that the silver aluminium case I'd brought was the one with Mrs Zero's wireless mic in it, not the one with my bass amp in.
I was in a band years ago where a few of us had similar cases like that and were always getting them mixed up at the end of the night. I put my initials on mine with black insulation tape. I thought it would peel off in a few months but 8 years later its still on there. People think I'm being a bit of a poser when I turn up to gigs with 'monogrammed' case but it came about from a very practical situation.
12. He's always been involved with various projects and sessions in addition to having his own bands, whether that makes him difficult to work with or in demand or both I don't know. He seemed to mellow a bit with age but you never know with these 'artistes'. I'm sure he'll sort something else out in the near future even if it means knocking together a backing band and doing some solo shows. He has a wealth of material he's performed on to draw on.
13. Can't go wrong with a couple from Beatles and Stones. Others that usually seem to work across a wide demographic (which is typically what you get at these things unless its a specific group raising the money) include: Keep On Running Mustang Sally (yes I know but I've never seen it empty a dancefloor yet) Play That Funky Music Happy (Pharrell) Get it On or 20th Century Boy
14.
I've always liked the soundtrack to 'Continental Circus' but I have never seen the film.
I'm the same with 'Mike's Murder'. From what I've read I don't think I'm missing much not seeing it but I like the Joe Jackson tunes in it. Here's one of 'em https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHje4_HoMlg
15. Weird rock n roll fact - Dave Dee was a copper before he was full time in music and attended the scene of the accident when Eddie Cochran died.
16.
What a great track! I'd never heard that before - even the Corrs version. Thanks for posting. Some truly gorgeous key changes in there - real heart-wrenching stuff, especially in the spirit of this thread. As a result I've just been on Amazon and bought a copy of it on a Phil compilation entitled "Yellow Pearl"
In fact that was the very compilation I was playing in the car, it's a great companion volume to the Lizzy material for a bargain price.
17. Not much chance of tail lift on that, it's not fooling me.
18. Mount Carmel - Get Pure
19. I was playing a compilation of his non-Lizzy stuff in the car the other week and I'd forgotten he'd written this, most people probably know the Corrs version better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2OcIqwmSaY
20. Or spooning in the curry...
21. Don't know how much the taxi fare to Mexborough Athletic club would be but apparently there's a jam night there tonight; http://www.thestar.co.uk/features/pubs-and-clubs-your-guide-to-sheffield-barnsley-rotherham-and-doncaster-1-5564805 Might be able to borrow someone's bass and have a noodle yourself? Got to be better than sitting in a hotel room...
22. I know where the OP is coming from. By habit the first thing I always do when setting up my rig is connect the extension speaker to the combo, so easy to forget if you get distracted doing the other stuff. The extension cab has a daisy chain 'out' immediately next to the 'in' socket and groping around with a lead round the back in tight spaces usually meant I had a 50/50 chance of hitting the wrong socket. Taped the 'out' over with gaffer and now there's only 1 slot to aim for, can get it without even looking round the back.
23. Not last night but Saturday. Was asked to do an hour for a corporate xmas party, via our drummer as his niece was responsible for putting the party on. It was also local for me and drummer so easy journey. Unfortunately they wanted us to play early (9pm-10pm) but then leave all the big gear in place until Sunday as they didn't want us trekking gear through the dance floor while the DJ was doing his thing. I couldn't see our band leader making a trip back next day so sure enough me and drummer had to break it all down between us yesterday afternoon and split the PA/singer's Guitar & combo between our 2 cars, only just fitted it in with all our own gear too. The main guitarist doesn't bring alot of gear so managed to sneak it out at end of night. All seemed to go smoothly from what I recall. That's the last of 7 consecutive Saturdays and a couple of midweek gigs over xmas, no more until Jan 31st now by my reckoning so I can have a bit of a rest.
24.
KevB will be along in a minute...
Not that early after last night's gig! Actually I'm not that familiar with them. Nothing in my itunes collection so I should investigate. Might have seen them in the 80's maybe supporting someone else but it was along time ago and I went to a lot of gigs back then. Thanks for the heads up, if anything like Pallas they may be worth checking out.Edit - having looked a bit further they may not have toured extensively back then so probably didn't and if there is only 1 album I wouldn't pick them up, its usually after about a band's thid release that I even notice them these days - age!
25. You could always take on the 70's originals band then if those 6 gigs per year aren't enough find another outlet for playing at a later stage. House band for open mic maybe?
