1. Was thinking the same as Ray, if I'd been gigging that infrequently I'd probably have been looking for another project to 'top up' the gigs to a level I was happy with. The rehearsal/gigging equation is always a tricky one. Some just don't feel comfortable unless they are rehearsing every week and it's more of a social activity than a 'working towards a goal' (ie the gig) one. I think the OP needs to get his feelings out in the open asap and make the band realise they could be looking for a new bassist if the gigs:rehearsal ratio doesn't improve. You can go from one extreme to the other though. I've just handed my notice in with a band I've been in for 2 years. We have averaged 2-3 gigs per month every month for 2 years and in that time I can recall exactly 3 rehearsals.
 2. Looks like our bandleader 'had a word' with the dep gtr during the half time interval on Fri night (see post #4938) and worked his magic. He got a txt from dep on Sat aft saying 'after last night's fiasco I've decided not to dep for you again'. Leaving us with 5hrs to find a replacement. On a Saturday ffs! So in the end last night we ended up winging it as a 3 piece, though in fact a gtr player from one of the drummer's old bands was there and stepped in for the last 4 songs of set 1 which was nice of him. Got through it, though me and drummer worked our nadgers off filling out the sound. I noticed at the end of the night I was paid by bandleader what I would get normally if we were a 4 piece yet I thought the venue paid a fixed fee irrespective of band size. Past caring, already handed in my notice.
 3. Great to hear Lozz, it's nights like yours you remember what you're doing it for. Brill.
 4.
She Said, She Said's baseline was played by George Harrison. Apparently Macca stormed out of the sessions in a huff so George just played it. Still, a great bassline.
Oops, didn't know that. As you say it's a good line though. Apparently George wasn't that keen on the bassline for 'Something', too fussy for him!
 5. Got a call last night at 8:20 from band leader that apparently we had a gig! Perhaps if he'd actually updated the band's google diary more recently than last November or maybe just told me, as he had evidently done to other band members. First night using a dep guitarist that the outgoing (paternity leave) gtr player found and said he 'thought would be OK' after they had met a couple of times for a short jam. I was amazed that a formal rehearsal hadn't been booked to make sure he would be OK in full band context as he'll be standing in for a couple of months. Sure enough he was woefully unprepared despite having had 2 months to learn the set. One rehearsal during that time would have made this abundantly clear but hey what do I know? So after band leader made some smart arse comment about my bass tone during the first set I duly handed in my resignation at the half time interval. I was planning to do it at tonight's gig anyway so just brought it a day forward, 2 years was always going to be about my limit with this one. Big sigh of relief. On to the next project!
 6. The main two sounds it seemed good at were 'farty rubber bands' and then (with the tone rolled off) 'muffled farty rubber bands'. Sorry Charlie, I won't be troubling you for this one
 7. All My Loving, She Said She Said, Rain worth a listen?
 8.
I'll report back with the lowdown on my p. Starting to sh*t myself now that it's an affinity with a decal lol. At least it's easy to check them out. Not easy to make out with the contrast but here's what I picked up... http://webshop.cashc...on-mexican-bass
They wouldn't bother trying to fake the serial decal on the back of the headstock, looks legit to me. Condition looks very good all round from the pics. If it sounds good and plays nicely it's a good buy for £250.
 9.
Is it a Marathon neck with a different headstock grafted on?
Was thinking the same but the fretboard looks maybe a little too clean & fresh unless it's one of those basses that have been in a closet for ages. Then taken out, had the headstock snapped off and replaced. Wouldn't be touching it with a barge pole at that price.
 10.
The "Frog and Tw@t" - where is that pub? I really want to go there In fact, I want to make it my local....
It used to be called the Insufferable Ballache's Arms but they had to rename it after complaints. And the sign stuck out too far into the road.
 11. Jim Dunlop nylon (not tortex, too stiff I find) 1mm all the way for me for those I play pick on. Wish they came in other colours than black, easily lost!
 12. Roland Cube 100 for £100 doesn't look bad assuming it's not been abused, might get it even cheaper if not many bid for it. They are around £260 new or more.
 13.
Living for the city and Do I Do are both on the list
Go on, do the Gillan version. You know you want to.
 14. I rarely hold on to stuff I'm not using. The only bass I have that isn't in regular use at present is the Ric and i know if I sell it I'll end up in a band that I need it for and have to spend a stupid amount of money on another so it stays. There are a few odds and sods in thshed that could do with clearing out but with those it's finding time to get them photo'd so I can sell them either here or on eBay. Maybe in the summer...
 15.
And is there an age thing? At 50+ am I supposed to live in the past, or does the fact that I love today’s music make me some sort of freak?
'Yes' and 'Of Course'. HTH
 16. Stevie Wonder cover eh? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6TiL7hgzb8
 17. I often visualise bands like football teams. Drummer is the keeper, front man is the striker. Top class keepers and strikers are always at a premium and are held on to. I played with 3 different drummers for a while in current band before a 'stable' lineup established itself, current one is probably the pick of the bunch. I've done enough open mic/jam sessions to have run the full gammut of people claiming to be drummers right from those who were solidly professional to ones who had been gigging for decades but still struggled ot keep basic time!
 18. I've been to enough bass meetings to know I won't be troubling most of you guys in the technical dept but I do get gigs.
 19.
But are you any good?
No idea, I can only assume that I've been good enough for the bands I've been in so far or they wouldn't have asked me to join.
 20.
JMB is a waste of time.
Found the band that I'm currently in via JMB and the way things are looking probably the next one as well
 21.
I like!
Could do one set as ACDC and the second as LZ. There might be a decent number of people who are fans of both?
 22.
It won't make any difference mate Muse are another of those fabulous home grown bands that evolved and succeeded only to be slated by those who won't like successful bands and have to knock them back down. We are not allowed to succeed in the UK, it is unseemly.
Irrelevant to me where they come from - post #35, purely my opinion. Clearly lots of folks will have an opposing one. Your comment in context makes no sense to me at all I'm afraid.
 23. Paice has worked with 3 different bass players during Purple and he's probably brought the best out of their playing in each case. I'd agree that the Glover/Paice partnership is probably the pick of the bunch though.
 24.
How can you sleep knowing that at least some of those people - if not all of them - are WRONG?!?
Same way I do with all those millions that believe in God. It's their life, let 'em get on with it.
 25.
This, and this.
I think we may have been separated at birth Said it in other threads that RG probably gets overlooked, you start picking apart something like 'Lazy' and appreciate how effortlessly fluid he makes it all sound.
