1. No, all original material with 5 albums to draw on. Naturally the current set is heavily loaded with material from brand new album New Day Rising, here's the title track http://www.youtube....h?v=lZ19oUREZzQ
2. I know this really isn't the place to post such stuff but saw these guys for first time last night. Been wanting to catch them for a while but have always been otherwise engaged when they played locally. They were on with 2 support acts last night in Nottm for £12 face value - bargain. Their last night here before they play Download in the summer is tonight at Slade Rooms in Wolv'hampton. If you like a bit of prog tinged anthemic rock with superb vocal harmonies get yourself down there tonight, you won't be disappointed. Best gig I've seen in ages.
3. You're just easily pleased 'shell Long may it continue!
4. Three decent looking girls in little black dresses and you think the camera would be on the bass player? Well done on the gig though.
5. Only saw him once (supporting RHCP's) so obviously he was in the autumn of his career but you could still see glimpses of what he once was. IIRC he actually had 2 bass players in the backing band that time. I suspect one was probably someone who'd been with him ages (judging by the age of him) and maybe was being 'carried' a bit and the other guy was acting as backup.
6. I'm also still not sold on the bass as asolo instrument even now. But then you start getting into the 'what actually is a bass' thing. 30-40 years ago it was still pretty easy to define but now with all the 'extended' instruments the water is muddier. I'd still argue that if someone's got a 'bass' with enough strings on it so that they are playing what are effectively guitar strings in a way that is more similar to what a guitar player does then they are in fact playing a guitar solo. It's all clearly subjective though.
7. I started seeing a girl in the early 80's whilst a student, she was from Coventry and some weekends we'd go and stay at her parent's and have a Sat night out in Cov. My recollections of the pubs then was they were actually quite lively with plenty of pub bands still trading on the success of the 2-tone thing.
8. I used to use Guitarpro a lot, cut down my learning time no end (compared with ear only) but I've used this guy's tutorials for a few songs recently and he seems OK : https://www.youtube.com/user/howtoplaybassdotcom They generally sound accurate enough and are done initially at a slow rate before putting the parts together at full speed. Sometimes the approach seems if anything a bit too laborious but they have to cover for all sorts of potential viewers including total beginners so understandable

10. I've got this sort of scenario coming up with my new band as again no one individual owns a full PA. Hopefully it'll all come together. We're looking to book an empty space to set up and then cajole someone with sound engineering experience to tweak stuff as we are playing, more time efficient than one of us trying to do 2 jobs at once. My contribution is the power amp (going with passive speakers, no idea what they actually are as yet).
11. Tippex out the first '1', take it to the counter when the least on the ball staff member is on it. Purchase for £1K, straight to ebay for a handsome profit and spend the money on things you really need.
12. Anyone here have a 2024 or 2025? Another leap in price from the 102's to the 202's - really worth that extra again?
13. Another best wishes to Mrs Dave here. I visit family in W Yorkshire from time to time, one of these days a visit will coincide with Dr Dave's band playing somewhere near enough for me to drop in and say hi.
14. Of the 3 basses I currently have I didn't buy any from a shop and 2 of them were bought entirely remotely without playing either. Interestingly they are the 2 basses I've owned the longest so far. Hardly ever pick anything up to play in a shop any more and would usually put it back before getting as far as actually plugging it in. Pretty much gas free at the moment. I don't play 2 of the 3 I have nearly as much as they deserve as it is.
15.
good ole James set the bar pretty high. you wouldn't have wanted him as your support act that's for sure
Not sure I'd want him as my band leader either from what I've read
16. I recall years ago that I was doing some sort of fundraiser at a primary school where one of the band member's wife was a teacher. It was all very low key and in a ,marquee on the lawn but the sun shone and it was an easy gig. I was having a soft drink afterwards when a little girl of all of 6 or 7 tentatively came up and asked if I would autograph her arm! lots of mirth making amongst the band but I duly obliged, her mum was OK with it, some type of non permanent marker. Bless...
17. Glad you found a P to your liking Chris, I know you were tempted by my P deluxe at last year's bass bash. Sounds like this one's right for you and that's half the battle. My deluxe has found a happy home with another BC'er too so it's all good. Hopefully catch your band soon, one of the guys in my new project lives in Marehay and our first gig is likely to be in a Ripley pub.
18. It sounds like the vinyl equivalent of what happens with in-demand concert tickets. Hoovered up in bulk and sold on at a big mark up. Money grubbing gits.
19. OK Bob can join as well to make a barbershop quartet.
20. If Morrissey ever forms a harmony trio with John Lydon & Damon Albarn I may have to leave the country. Or planet. Or something.
21. Just listening to it on iplayer with a cheap pair of in ear headphones. Only got to 3rd act but can hear bass on all of them fine so far. Sadly I can also hear Damon Albarn's voice so there are parts I'll have to fast forrad thru Leftie playing with N Prass sounds a good player.
22.
I love the tune and that fabulous arrangement, but God, Richard Burtons voice...eek...lol..
Richard Harris
23. Someone mention McArthur Park? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPcyhGqbSk8
24. The really odd thing is that IF it is the same guy who runs the audio company then he's already very 'visible' on the web and it wouldn't take anyone long to track him down. Usually with these kind of scams the person behind it does all they can to be untraceable (false names, web accounts etc). I really hope that someone hasn't just targeted the apparent perpetrator and cloned his details, knowing that he already has a poor reputation online as a smokescreen. That would make the genuine culprit really hard to track down. Hope the OP gets it sorted, I'm sure the Admins here are doing all they can behind the scenes. Whoever's responsible it is behaviour of the shittiest order.
25.
Well ... I was at that gig, but I didn't compliment you on your bass playing! The Mardi Gras was ace. Quireboys, Little Angels, Wolfsbane, Dogs D'Amour, Pallas, Sleeze Patrol (Punky Wayne, what a guy!), Brian Connolly's Sweet (shame) etc etc. Few pints in the Sal, and some more at the Trip on the way down to the gig. As for compliments ... whenever I get any I assume that the complimentor is probably a better player than me anyway, so I get a bit embarrassed by it all!
Also remember the MG and from a similar time, though I think my main times there were maybe '86 or '87 so never saw Ray. I did see a number of the bands you mention. Though I had graduated by 87 I carried on doing some gig reviews for a student magazine and was also involved in a rock show on hospital radio so got a press pass for the club, could go whenever I liked for free. Others I recall seeing there were Tygers of Pan Tang, Jadis, Pendragon, Wilco Johnson (Norman was playing with him even back then). Whenever I go past that office block I wonder if the rooms are still down there in the basement in any usable form.
