1. The Black & White minstrel show's not what it was... Probably just as well.
2. Maybe the guy at Limelight has some left over if he's decided not to use them any more?
3. Rhythm Stick
4. I still like this design personally. Lightweight, strong and still folds fairly compact. I get my trace combo and SWR extension cab on together no problem. 5.
Didn't Rush do an album of covers? Including the Seeker.
More an EP really, called 'Feedback'
6. Maybe not the same night I was there then, thought the mix was dreadful for first 20-30 minutes until someone got their finger out. Good performance though, it was the first opportunity for me to see them live, I'd been unable to make the Signals tour due to college work.
7. It's OK Ray, that was the H20 gig, Plainsman was the previous weekend which went by fairly innocuously from what I recall.
8.
Besides, I'll need it in the future when I'm playing mediocre middle-aged pub dad rock.
Ah so you witnessed your future on Sat night then? make the most of it while you're still young mate!
9. If folks always included the term '5 string bass' in the description i would have thought the search engine at the top of the page would pull most of them out without having to go through all the 4's as well or doesn't it work?
10. The OP raises a point though, maybe there is an argument for subdividing the basses for sale section. Perhaps have 3 sections, all the under £500 ones together, all the £500-£1000 together and the over £1000 together. Someone browsing with a particular budget then might find stuff that's relevant a bit quicker? Or is there some fancy button on the site that can list them in order of price anyway?
11. The singer lures them in then they get too close, spot the troll in the corner on bass and in trying to about turn & exit quickly enough lose their footing. Standard practice at my gigs
12. No, any bass that's lying too idle for too long gets moved on, my own rule. If I'm not regularly gigging a bass then it becomes first choice for jam sessions or rehearsal to get use and the gigging bass stays at home. Now down to 3 decent quality basses and in truth that's probably one too many. Least used at present is the ric which is ironic as its the one I've had longest. It has been the main gigging bass in previous bands but not the last 3 or 4. I know if it goes the next band I join will need a ric for some of their set, sods law, so I keep it.
13. One of our regular pub/bar gigs. When you play the same place every month it can be a case of familiarity breeding contempt and sometimes you just don't get into it. I think most of the band were guilty of this first set and we rather phoned it in for first 45mins, shame as our own Roland Rock turned up. We did play better (and there were twice as many people in) for set 2 though. I think a lot of folks do a local pub crawl and all end up at this bar for last few rounds. So we gave them their money's worth (its free entry anyway!) and did an 80 minute second set, lots of women grooving at the front. The venue has a really hard composite rock type flooring which when the beer starts to spill can get dicey, especially for the girls in high heels. Halfway through set 2 there was a crowd forming around one woman who had gone over and was flat on her back. Wasn't sure whether to stop playing or not, looked a bit serious but what could we do? She was being taken care of so we soldiered on. A huge ambulance turned up just before our encore at 12:30am to take her away and as we play in front of a big window the blue flashing lights gave a weird backdrop to our finale. Hope she was OK, we see girls go over on that floor surface nearly every time we play, though in truth some of them can barely walk by the time we are into set 2. A few weeks off to hone some potential new material then from last Sat in Nov to new years eve we have 7 confirmed bookings so it'll be all hands on deck.
14. Don't know whether it's correct etiquette to bump this up but we are playing the same venue as in OP tomorrow (Nov 1st) so will be good to see Chris (RR) or anyone else turn up and count my duff note quota for the evening. Usually on around 9:45 at this venue.
15. But then you'll also get drummers who will insist on putting their empty casesd away in their own 'special' way. I'm happy to help ours out when he needs it but tbh even if I wait until he's fully set up before I start on my rig I'm invariably still hanging around ready to go long before the singer/2nd guitarist has finished pissing about tuning up.
16. Think you've answered your own question there. The younger generation that have grown up with vast amounts of freely accessible music via the internet are not going to be interested in listening to a radio show on the offchance their fave band comes up when they can immediately access it via youtube, spotify or whatever. Hence the shift from muisc based radio to offering them something which isn't necessarily music led. I think if you wewre to try to set up a commercial station geared toward younger rock fans and championing new acts you might struggle to get the listening figures in that would pull in the sponsors. Now whether the BBC should be doing more on that is a different subject but i got the impression that sites like 6music were supposed to be finding & promoting new talent as well as covering more niche music genres but i have to admit I've not heard enough of it to get a firm idea of their 'mission statement'.
17. I have a badass III on my S1 jazz but didn't bother when I got a US P for much the reasons Lozz made in post #10
18. Agree it looked very optimistically priced. I bought my 1X15 combo and a 4x10 extension cabinet for £400 for the pair. I had to retire the 4x10 as my back was giving me some grief. It's still in my shed, if anyone wants to make me an offer and come pick it up... My combo lives in the cupvoard under the stairs between gigs so I don't have to carry it upstairs. Only done 2 gigs in last 2 years that meant carrying it up to a higher floor than I parked on, I noticed it! Not exactly like for like, and it's not a final price, but compare with this one; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Trace-Elliot-Bass-Rig/141448239561?_trksid=p2046732.c100040.m2060&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107095009%26meid%3Da16051808ab24b6da073bab177b0b009%26pid%3D100040%26prg%3D20140107095009%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D141451513483#ht_234wt_1190
19. Didn't enjoy the second one as much as the first but there just weren't any bands featured that I have real interest in so not surprising. Coincidentally I didn't think the resulting song performed at the end was as good as the last one either.
20.
He's referring to the coating on it surely....
Ah, OK. Couldn't tell from the poor quality photos in OP, looked like black tolex type covering but could be green carpet I guess.
21. That's my local store actually. I might give it a look over if still there on Sat. Wooly? My Trace combo has a great tone and crisp as a newly printed tenner. I have it sat on top of my 2x10 SWR ext cab. Makes naff all difference to the overall tone, just meansI have the knobs at a sensible height and its more stable as the SWR cab is deeper than the combo. I just don't need any more backline at the moment. If they split them up I might be interested in the 1x15 as I could then try 2 15's as an alternative to 1 x 15 + 2 x10's.
22. Whilst not necessarily agreeing with all Daltry has to say it gives me some comfort that he is taking that stance. There is something usually rather phoney, if not downright creepy, about older people desperately keeping up with trends being set by kids a generation or two younger than they are.
23. As I said in my earlier post, this is a very good deal at the moment; http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Behringer-TU300-Chromatic-Tuner-Pedal/7S8?origin=product-ads&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=PLA+Shop+-+Behringer&utm_content=JOOX63WD|dc_pcrid_54171974119_plid__kword__match__&gclid=CLScpq_1zMECFSYIwwod7UcA1g Been using one for years with no mishaps.
24. That reminds me of a gig I did years ago for a lad's 18th birthday party. The stage was small so we had to put the mic stands at floor (punter) level and extend them up as far as they'd go so they weren't ultra stable to begin with. Then we did some song or other which seemed to go down particularly well and I was singing lead as well as playing bass. There was a lot of moshing going on at the front and the next thing I was having to pan my head back and forth to follow the mic as it was weaving from side to side from the milling throng below. In the end our other (female) singer came over and held the stand firmly in place so I could get through it. Meanwhile a load of kids had turned up from a neighbouring village and were causing some sort of riot outside the pub. The police were called and basically told the landlord to lock everyone in until they could disperse the rabble outside. Heady days.
25. I'm still using the Behringer foot pedal (Boss TU clone) I picked up cheaply a few years back. Expected it to have broken by now as of course everything Behringer makes immediately falls apart within seconds of purchase (if you believe a few on here) but it still goes on providing perfectly acceptable results gig after gig. At the current offer of £16:99 I'm even tempted to get another as a back up, not that mine shows any sign of packing in yet.
