1. Didn't they buy (and bugger up) Trace Elliot once too?
2.
but would he be held in such high esteem if he was still alive? Probably not.
Who knows what he would have gone on to do though? 30 years is a long time.
3. From watching Beatles videos. Which is why I'm not much good, you really needed to be there.
4. New PMT due to open in Nottm this Sat, looks a decent sized space when I looked in the window a couple of weeks back. I'm told the one in B'ham is massive so hopefully this one will give a bit of competition to the (largely uninspiring) current choices here.
5. Fender have sent an identical model as replacement as far as I'm aware, though in fact the shop say they already had one ready to go anyway but presumably needed the nod from Fender to hand one over. I'll make sure I get a new receipt for the replacement so my warranty starts now. I'll only be using it for home practice or maybe some fairly quiet jam, the 100W model really isn't up to full on rock gigging IMHO, if I needed a gigging backup I'd probably shell out for the 500. Pick it up at the weekend hopefully. Edit, just realised the place I bought it from is close to the new PMT opening in Nottm so I could call in there on Sat for a quick look first before picking up the replacement amp.
6. Don't think I really started listening to music that much until early teens so at 11 I wasn't quite there, it would have just been background music on the radio though my older brother's rock collection might have been having some subliminal effect even then. People who actually got up on stage to play stuff were from a different planet and something that wouldnt be remotely on my radar for some years yet.
7. Well it must have been something fatal, they have sent a replacement out which I'll pick up at the weekend, see how long this one lasts. No info on what the actual fault was.
8. I've looked at those stair climbing trolleys in the past, they all take up massive amounts of car space. Its the 3 wheels in a triangle (necessary to do stairs) that's the problem, they just can't be collapsed down tight enough.
9.
I think they did 80 or so gigs the year before I joined. I got exactly 100 gigs in last year (though a couple were with another band).
100 gigs per year would probably be too much for me. Even allowing a bit of time off for holidays its pretty much twice a week every week. The problem then is getting time to freshen up the set list bringing new material in.
10.
Maybe 'Gotta Get You Into My Life' would sound good too with the horn and sax?
Sounded good on Cliff Bennet's version... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnfl3gNRoK8
11. Congrats on your first gig, may there be many more enjoyable ones to come.
12. I know exactly why I struggle with every line I have problems with. It's a combination of lack of practice and natural ability. But I stopped letting it get to me a long time ago.
13. Yes he's had heart problems before and I think his body is just telling him that enough's enough. Leaves Rossi as the only original member but essentially it has been the double act of Parfitt & Rossi that have been the 'Quo brand' for many years now. Other bands have soldiered on with only one founder member but you wonder how long Rossi will really want to go on long term without Rick. Missing a few shows is one thing but if he's gone permanently it will change the dynamic.
14.
I played on a few Columbus JBs back in the 70s don't remember seeing a split pick up there before!
The P pickups (Dimarzio iirc) were a mod done by the guy I bought it from. We were in a band at school together, I just sang. When we finally all went off to different higher ed places I bought the bass for £30 and it sat around for 3 years before I really picked it up. Much later I swapped everything out apart from the body and returned it to a proper jazz config and with a mighty mite neck and proper fender PU's it was a very playable instrument, just a bit heavy!
15. Taught myself the first rudiments of bass on a Columbus jazz copy...
16. We do all help set up and break down as much as possible, particularly lugging it all out of the van and back in at the end of the night. It's actually a desk, 2 EV 15" subs, 2 EV tops and either 2 or 3 (depending on venue) Mackie floor monitors, not cheap. I do still have my own powered monitor and a slave unit which I've brought along for some gigs. Decent lights are also provided though I do bring one of my own small laser types for an extra effect onto the ceiling which goes down well.
17. Current band : singer and gutarist are a couple, they own PA (desk, powered speakers and powered monitors). We've all been through it at some point though routinely for small venues my bass doesn't go through PA and only the drummer's bass drum goes through it. All four of us contribute to vox. This of course gives them control in the band. If I'm sacked or leave, they still have the PA, drummer the same. If they fold the band and go back to performing as a duo with (usually self created) backing tracks, they still have the PA. The subject of 'hiring it out' to me and the drummer has never been raised and they are completely open about how much we are getting for a gig and always split it four ways, on occasions even down to loose change.
18. The thing you need to ask yourself is..... Would it be any good for metal?
19. Gigging is severely limiting my options at present. Renewed my membership of the Classic Rock Society and so far I'm gigging on every night they are putting gigs on in the new season I have got a ticket to see Last In Line with Inglorious on same bill at Rescue Rooms at end of Nov.

21.
Their skill was knowing when to change and by how much - so "Love Me Do" became "Paperback Writer" then "Strawberry Fields Forever" and finally "Come Together". As the world changed, the Beatles were one step ahead, responding to trends, but setting them as well.
I think this is it, in a nutshell. You can virtually hear them progress as artists from song to song almost day by day. The changes in songwriting over the course of 7 or 8 years is quite astounding. A lot of modern bands might make 3 albums in that time and not progress a tenth of the way.
22. I did ages ago, cant remember it now. Oddly, as I was learning it I couldnt help thinking 'this feels like something written on a keyboard rather than a guitar' so it came as no surprise that it turned out to be a synth part.
23. 4 out of 5 stars review here; https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/sep/15/the-beatles-eight-days-a-week-review-ron-howard-documentary
24. Easy gig for getting back in to the flow after a couple of weekends off as there werent enough punters to put any pressure on us but tougher in that the playing area was all bare laminate flooring and hard surfaces, had to work at he EQ's to stop it getting too boomy. Despite it being a quiet venue we still managed to pick up an outdoor multi band festival type gig for next summer where apparently good quality PA and lights will be provided. And we got paid. Other amusing thing was that when I got to the venue I realised it was the same place I played t what turned out to be my last gig with the last band I was in. Only last Nov or something but obviously so memorable I'd completely forgotten it,
25. Saw a 3-piece rock covers band at my local a few weeks ago and they pulled off a very convincing version of Rush's 'Subdivisions', went down as well with the audience as any of the more 'classic' rock songs in the set. Think the bass/keys/vox player is a bit of a Rush anorak though.
