1.
I've checked all of mine and they are all fine. How long have you guys had the ones that have gone sticky. Just wondering how long I've got
Bought mine around june/july this year so if you have one with the changed formulation for the rubber it won't take long to notice. I've probably accelerated mine by leaving it in the car between gigs, the rubber bits have started picking up bits of crap off the car carpet now. Took some pics yesterday so when i get chance I will email the distributer. The fact they seem so willing to replace makes you think they realise they have a genuine problem batch or batches.
2.
The year that we played at Butlin's, the "travelling" band (who played a different camp site each night) were "Brian Poole and Blackcat" - yes, he of the Tremelos. I know so because he always wore his T-shirt proclaiming that fact. Unfortunately he always wore a leather jacket that covered the first and last two letters of his name on the T-shirt. I don't think he appreciated me calling him Ian Poo
The guys in the house band at one of the jam sessions I frequent are also part of the Electrix who act as Brian's backing band when he does those type of shows now, though he doesnt get out as much as used to, in his 70's now and not in great health. It's interesting that he still keeps up the Tremeloes link, they had more hits after he'd left than with him in the band.
3. Thanks for that, if it looks suitably bad in daylight I will take some snaps at the weekend and try to follow it up.
4. We hadn't played for a while due to singer having a really bad cold and she wasn't 100% over it last night which meant leaving a few songs out of the set. The drummer had an odd fainting episode at home 2 days earlier which ended up with him falling into the cooker (not on at the time) hitting his head, breaking teeth, blacking his eye and a couple of cuts. The guitarist had an ear infection and couldn't hear much all night. At times I felt I was holding the whole thing together and I wasn't 100% due to lack of practice time either. We got through but it was one to quietly forget and move on from. Hopefully we will be a bit sharper at next outing on Sunday. Oh and some random punter told the guitarist his gtr 'sounded sh*te' which he was still quietly fuming over as we loaded up the van. A guy who I met briefly once before and says he also plays bass (though I've never seen him play) said my Trace rig sounded 'tight', whatever that means.
5. Mine's gone sticky but it's the only one I have and used every gig, can't really do without it at the moment so can't send it back for replacement until theres a break in gigs, maybe December. Its only the bit you briefly touch to lower and raise the centre shaft, it doesnt come in to contact with any instruments. The foam bits that touch the body and the headstock grabbers are all fine so far.
6. This reminds me, I went to a jam session and noticed a guy there who's previously been a drummer but now dabbles in a bit of bass. He was showing me his P bass he'd recently picked up and he reckoned it was a real bargain, though I forget what he paid for it. Because of the crudely stamped number on the neck plate he was sure it was a 1973 model because he'd 'looked it up on the internet'. This was despite the fact it was a Squier and made in China. I didn't know know where to start...
7. Sorry this isn't strictly in the right place. One of the group going to see Europe on Nov.12th has dropped out and I'm left with a spare ticket. Happy to pass on to a fellow bc'er at face value, pm me if interested. Will post it in time for gig.
8. That tone happens to work very well in the context that I'm working in so I'm using a P for 90% of current set, there are a few songs in changed keys so I also have a detuned jazz for those and to act as backup. The jazz is the S1 model so I use that engaged to get a more P-ish sound anyway. You don't specifically need a P bass though, most solid body electric basses with that type of pickup in th ecorrect position will give a broadly P bass sound in a live band context.
9.
I think Metallica were on once, I stand to be corrected.
Think they got on because they did a collaboration with Lou Reed. Sounded sh*te.
10.
Queens Hall in Nuneaton on Friday. Dead cool venue, great soundman, not a huge crowd but it was all right
My current band play the downstairs bar (The Crew) sometimes, we are there on New years Eve. They let us use the changing room for the main hall upstairs so I've at least walked across the stage though unlikely to ever actually play on it!

Frost*

Actually there isn't much more Frost* to listen to. They all do other projects and bands so there are only 2 other authentic studio albums and an 8 year gap between second and third (which only came out this year)!
12. I like the story that when Vincent Price agreed to be on the recording they didn't have his spoken part written. Rod wrote it by hand in the back of the car on the way to the studio and then Quincy Jones doorstepped VP on his way in and kept him talking whilst Rod rushed the bit of paper to a secretary to get typed up so it was ready on the stand looking a bit more professional.
13. Sensible positioning of (and experience with) a good PA is key here. Should be possible to focus it so you have an area where its loud enough for those that want the experience to get it but it won't be overwhelming round the corner in another part of the venue. I can't recall us ever being asked to turn down indoors, though it did happen bizarrely at an outdoor gig in August but I think that was a complete over reaction by the guy with his little meter needing to be seen to be doing something useful. No one in the audience directly in front of the PA moved away or complained and some had very young kids with them.
14. We always make sure there are posters up at the venue in advance, the posters say who we are, when we are on and include a list of a cross section of the artists we cover in the design. Other than the visually impaired I can't see how anyone could be remotely surprised if they stayed around for us to start playing if they had bothered to look at the information supplied. Quiet game of draughts in a silent room? pick another pub or the same one on a different night.
15.
The Tubes in Brighton on Saturday week, then Gun in Pompey the following Thursday
Mate of mine has got me a ticket to see Gun in Nottm next Tues, can't recall seeing them before.
16. Well to round things off it has been replaced by Fender and they have given no information on what the fault was. I had to nudge the people on the shop that I really should be given a new receipt and my new warranty to start now (as it is a replacement not a repair) but they sorted it. It's just going to be a glorified practice amp so hopefully will last some time.
17. There are also those interesting 'mirror' twins (embryo splits a little later in developement than usual) where one ends up RH and the other LH.
18. Meat and two veg. Drop of gravy if I'm playing on a Sunday.
19.
Wow! £2300, really? Guitarguitar have them for £2099, where's that extra 200 quid come from?!
I just checked their site in case I'd misremembered. It's because it's a leftie I think. Most of the regular RH 4003's at PMT are £1649 (though some are also £1899 - confusing) but the equivalent lefties are £2359! The other odd thing is there is a banner against the £2359 ones saying 'USA Model'. Have Rick started making them outside the USA now? If they have started manufacturing outside the US then maybe that is a factor. A £700 price diff just switching from RH to LH seems over the top if that is really the case; http://www.pmtonline...ckenbacker+bass
20. As I've mentioned in other related threads I do a lot of other two handed things right handed (played cricket and golf right handed) and I'm right footed but single handed things (raquet sports) always left handed. Thus I end up in an odd way with cutlery - knife and fork right handed but spoon leftie! However I usually use a mouse right handed as invariably I've taken over a desk from someone else and thats been how the PC was arranged so I just carried on that way. It's also handy in that I can browse the internet right handed with the mouse whilst taking down hand written notes with my left at the same time.
21. Paid a visit to new PMT in Nottm on Sat morning, a good number of people in but then there always is on opening day. Looked a decen tamount of stock, drum section upstairs out of the way. Not a huge range of manufacturers bass wise, lots of Fenders and Squiers but a few non run of the mill ones, blue Rick Laredo that I might have a noodle on some time when it's quieter. Rick 4003 left handed model for a bit over £2300, can't see that flying off the rack but good on them to have it in for the few lefties around interested in trying a mythical Rick. Bit disappointed in bass amps/combos unless I missed some, again not a lot of different manufacturers on show, mainly Fender rumbles and Asdown with a smattering of Orange and Roland. Big Ampeg rig in the corner that made my back ache just looking at it.
22. Small pub gig yesterday aft/early evening to a select and mostly partisan crowd, many singing along to what we were playing which is always nice to see. Very positive feedback from a couple of punters afterward. Gear broken down and loaded, band paid by 7:30pm, easy stuff.
23. Has come up many times via polls etc here. Turns out from at least the BC sample of players here there are lots of left handed people who play right handed (including me) so yes if you think you need more dexterity in the fretting hand compared with the plucking hand then this way round works very well, works for me anyway. I have no problem keeping time with my 'wrong' hand. A right handed boogie woogie pianist is doing all the time keeping bass work with his left hand after all.
24. Yay, must be first back from this Sat BC'ers gigs. Pub neither I nor any other band member had played before even though its no more than 30 min drive for any of us. There was a 60th birthday party with stage, DJ and lights set up in another part of pub yet we were still expected to play. Fortunately the DJ turned his stuff off when we were on but it was all soul and sixties stuff. We were clearly not the right band for the venue. Actually there was a very small number of ardent rock fans who really liked us. When they said we could cut the second set short I just told the drummer we were basically getting paid off, chalk it to experience and move on. Imagine our complete surprise when at the end of the night the manager offered us 3 more dates for next year - bizarre!
25. Preferred the stereo vs tbh.
