Sorry if this has been posted already. Couldn't help but chuckle at that microphone Larry Graham was using on Later Live. Why not just go the whole hog and have one on a headband? It couldn't look any sillier surely

I think on the whole I'd rather play Mustang than Sweet Home Alabama. The last dep gig I did we played both, no one died and we got paid. At least they were songs I knew and in the key I knew them in, unlike 60% of the rest of the set!

Pro Player Ian KIng - Does He Ever Visit This Site?

Saw JCS in Nottingham on the recent tour, hadn't really appreciated how strong a voice Tim Minchin has until I saw the show. Great playing from all the pit band (maybe that should be scaffolding band?) too, always thought there were some interesting basslines in the original cast recording of JCS. -
I know what you mean, it used to be a regular in the set I was doing with a band 7 or 8 years back but considering the work we put into getting it sounding pretty good (despite a slightly average drummer) it was never a 'big' song. Of the rock covers bands I've seen in the last few years I only recall one still doing it so maybe it has had its time anyway.

I really need to sneak into 'shells next jam night and watch all this stuff unfolding from a safe distance. Almost as entertaining as the music itself

I had my first jam with potential new band a couple of weeks back. No singer yet, apparently someone was invited at the same time I was auditioning but never turned up. If I'm being brutally honest I was a little underwhelmed and I don't consider myself as anything more than adequate at best, yet of the 3 expected 'permanent' lineup two of them were rather weak players. It was just one jam so I'm not reading anything much into it yet. We won't be gigging this year though I'm sure of that!

Now come one guys, we all moan at bands covering tunes note for note and not putting enough of 'themselves' into it and then when someone does.... Hang on, scrub that I've just listened to it. It really is sh*te...

This needs to be placed in the 'for sale' section, this is the area just for discussion of basses rather than selling them, a moderator should be able to move it for you.
What is that and why don't I own it?!
I think it's one of these; http://www.bassramblings.com/2012/08/09/fender-deluxe-p-bass-special-pearlescent-seafoam-green/

I only have a regular 4003 but decided to take it along to a jam session yesterday as I was depping in the house band. One of the other players borrowed it and was smitten. He's not having it though It gave me a chance to hear other people using it through my own rig from a distance. Yep, it still sounds great.

Depends if you want to have a career in, or your music revolves around, 'pop' I guess.

My gig with Mark Knopfler... now with video!

Cracking stuff, was listening to Privateer just the other week, solid album. -
Musically not too bad (though not much of a QOTSA fan). Unfortunately even though he's going for a bit of a generic American accent sufficient of his normal voice still comes through to make it as intensely irritating as their earlier material for me. If they could draft a really decent singer in this could be pretty good.
I used to take a pile of books to the reading festival and was always disappointed when it was all about music.
But if you take enough you can always use them to stand on to get a better view of the stage. Job done...

Latest ones from Aerosmith, Neil Young, Pineapple Thief and......ahem, Robbie Williams

I injured my back doing some lifting at work many years ago and am a little bit careful about what I do. I've never really suffered just from playing though, it is hauling other gear into venues that is more likely to cause me problems. I know there are (generally expensive) quality lightweight rigs now available but I'm usually in bands that carry their own PA and I'm not one to just stand there doing nothing when there are monitors, PA cabs and bass bins to be shifted. This is by far the most likely way I'm going to do my back than manoevering my own backline in and out of venues.

Don't see many purple Fenders so would be interesting to try 'Sumptious Purple Satin'. Probaby better with a maple f'board though.
I neglected to tell you that the drumkit collapsed, the guitarist threw up mid song and the singer got electrocuted ;-)
I really need to get out and see you play more often...

Yep the nut slot thing will be an issue, the 'A' string slot (for std EADG) is a bit odd because the string it is intended for from the factory isn't quite the same as most manufacturer's guages. Just another quirk of rics I guess. When I got my 4003 about 10 years ago it just happened that someone on eBay was selling off a cheap job lot of authentic ric strings in various types (rounds, flats and that odd 'half and half' ground wound that ric did) so I didn't need to use other manufacturers strings for quite a while. When all those were used up and I wasn't prepared to pay for authentic ric strings again at top dollar prices I found it difficult getting sets that fitted the 'A' nut slot and had it filed accordingly.

I recall last year I thought it might come up at a jam session I was filling in with the house band so I learned it from this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPzYQxaUns4 Then inevitably never got to actually play it! -
Also may be worth checking out our own MacGraham who teaches a particular type of singing, I believe he will do one to one lessons via skype. Keep meaning to check it out myself but other stuff keeps gettin gin the way!
-
Someone I occasionally play with as a dep was marvelling at 'all those effects pedals' I was using. What he was looking at was a tuner, a DI box and the receiver for my wireless unit. Not a single 'effect' in any of them!
-
Cheers John, PM'd.
-
If you want it to be kept completely live and it is 'occasional interesting noises' rather than complicated lines then there is always the midi pedals with sound module route, did that in my last 3 piece band. It needn't look all prog rock. Most gigs people didn't even realise what I was doing with my feet as the wedge monitor masks them pretty well.
-
John, where did you find out about the band? I've been looking for this type of thing for a few months around Notts/Derbyshire but don't recall seeing an ad that fits your band's description. Just checking if there is somewhere else I should be looking.
