Dancing in the street. I'd completely forgotten that Van Halen had covered it but then listening to it figured I'd probably just banished that version from my mind like a bad dream
-
So how much are they?

We should have a large neon made that flashes 'TURN THE f*** DOWN' which can be deployed in emergencies. Maybe if someone could get hold of a cheap air horn as a warning when it's getting uncomfortably loud/slap-happy? I've def got a gig that Sat but still hoping to get there for at least while as I promised tea/coffee/milk/biccies.

I might actually be off work for some of those September shows but I'm sure when the ticket prices are announced I'll go 'Errr...no'. Is 'Before the Dawn' an upcoming new release or just a collective term for the gigs? Would be nice if there was some new material, I thought the last release was sadly quite dreary and a bit forgettable by her standards.

Was going to list blow-up doll, thus guaranteed a shag at the after gig party but thought it was too much information. Oh, hang on...
You'd never get stuff like that on "The Most Tedious Rock Album in the World Ever 46".
I used to play a game with myself whenever I went into second hand record shops was to look at 'dad rock' type compilations and see how far I had to go down the track list before 'Centerfold' by J Geils Band turned up. Not sure which your Island comp was, they did a couple called 'You can all join in' and 'Nice enough to Eat' so might be one of those?

Shame, quality singers are worth their weight in gold and can mean the difference between an 'OK' band and a 'Wow' band. Hope you find a suitable replacement asap.

There's always some sort of 'system' involved with jam/open mics, ranging from properly organised to near-chaos but worth going along with whatever you are instructed until at least you become familiar faces. At least it didn't sound too cliquey. The first attempt I ever made to get up in front of an audience and actually do something on bass was a particularly 'in crowd' atmosphere where some people flatly refused to play with some other people. I think i only got up to play twice and then stopped going and didn't perform in front of people until several years later (wasted years in retrospect).

That is the one thing I wondered about when I saw the video demo of the 12 step. I even used to occasionally catch the wrong pedal with PK5's and got into the habit of using shoes with a reasonably pointy toe on them to reduce the 'spread' and I only take size 9.

Looks nice. I've always found the standard mapleglo a bit anaemic so with the contrasting walnut this looks nicer. If I was going to quibble about anything I'd say that with the all maple neck it would have been nicer to have something a little darker for the fret inlays to give that more contrast too.

Since I agreed to attend I've noticed my band's diary now has a wedding gig listed on May 10th which wasn't there before. Hopefully I'll still get to call in briefly but if we need to be at the gig to set up ridiculously early (it sometimes happens) I'll have to pull out, sorry folks.

I would have mentioned Meros much earlier but I recalled how heavily modified his ric was so didn't know if it really qualified. I think he sold it to help fund the band's last record, he wasn't playing it on the tour last year and he actually didn't sound quite like 'classic Meros' to my ears either.

Does anybody else find that, the best bass......
He he, I'm the other way round Practice on the Ibanez because I like to 'save the Fender for best' so to speak.
Clearly the answer is to replace the Ibanez with another Fender (no, you're not having my jazz ) and thus starts the steady slide into self induced poverty and slight madness. -
Warmer more humid weather makes the back of my ric's neck a bit stickier but I'm not playing it much at present so not a problem gigging wise. I can always find excuses not to practice irrespective of the climate

Good stuff, bc site gets a donation and bc member ends up with a decent bit of kit that will hopefully last years for about £150 all in. If the OP is ever interested in an old trace 4x10 cab I still have knocking about in my garden shed he's more than welcome to come give it a once over and make me an offer. Keep meaning to stick it on here or eBay but never get round to it.

I can possibly guage if it is a pub I'm going to enjoy playing in fairly quickly but that hasn't much correlation with if its a venue that the band are going to go down well in. We play a lot of stuff that goes down with the 'Oasis loving football crowd'. They tend to be lager drinkers on the whole (since we are in sweeping generalisation mode) so the presence of a decent range of draught ales isn't much concern to them. I wouldn't be seen dead drinking in one of the places we play (and are popular in) every month. I'm always driving to a gig anyway so the chance to have any noticeable amount of drink becomes a moot point.

The bass I enjoy playing the most unfortunately isn't the one I gig with so I make a point of getting the one that I like playing most out for practice sessions. -
Can't stand haggling... Put it up for what you want for it, this is the BC marketplace not a souk in Marrakech...
Yep, put a bass up for sale recently but didn't really expect it to sell (it hasn't) but I'd done afew searches and looked at some eBay ads and come to a firm decision of the lowest price I was going to accept at present and made it clear in the ad that it was either that price or i was keeping it. Not interested in protracted PM discussions.
I know someone who sold a Precision Bass to Chris Squire and he was amazed that when he presented it to him that Chris proceeded to pick it up, plug it to his rig in and sound exactly the same as he does on his famous Rickenbacker.
I can quite believe it. From this you would deduce it as supporting the 'it's in the fingers' or in this case 'it's in the rig' or a combination of both.

Genesis and Pink Floyd must be two of the most trib'd bands outside of the usual suspects like Beatles and Stones. Looks like a solid show and the playing is excellent, going for the modern stuff make sense. Most of the tribs go for the old school Gabriel material. Have fun with it.

Pretty sure our very own Dood had one custom made and still uses regularly.
Many people (punters) seem to think they are like effects pedals and assume they are connected to my bass, you have to explain to them that they are a synthesiser you play with your feet!
Yes I had that conversation a few times when I was using them regularly. I guess the best back-handed compliment I got after a gig was 'I thought you were using backing tracks'.

Very kind Len but I'm due a day off work next week for visitors so if I can get them to agree to a sensible time for delivery (not just 'any time between 9am and 5pm mate') I should be OK
-
Not possible unfortunately, work put a block on personal deliveries on anything bigger than could be sent via normal mail some years ago.
-
Hmmm, now they tell me the courier they use doesn't deliver on Saturdays. Take day off work or I'm back to square one.
