1. BRX, I take it you were like me sifting through all those scraps of paper pinned over each other on some grubby cork board in places like Carlsboro Sound and Selectadisc Happy days...
2. Thanks guys, I've gone for what is basically exactly the same design as the one that I've just 'retired'; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BENTLEY-FOLDABLE-HAND-TRUCK-SACK-TROLLEY-90KG-STAINLESS-STEEL-/400672595269?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item5d49f29d45#ht_2040wt_1135 Don't think it's much more than what I paid for mine 10 years ago, if this one lasts as long it will probably see out my gigging career anyway. Also coming from Loughborough if I had any issues it would be easy to just drive to the supplier and sort it out. Due to arrive this weekend.
3. My folks weren't that big on music despite the fact my dad was a passable ''pub piano'' player. I do recall a lot of those 'Top Of The Pops' and 'Hot Hits' albums knocking about, no wonder I ended up in covers bands On the whole my musical education was much more influenced by my older brother and I didn't get into music in a big way until I was mid teens. Before that it was what was on the radio and the occasional single I'd pick up on a whim. 4.
This is what you need http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5d49f29d45 I've got one and it's fantastic. The best of the four sack trucks I own. You should be able to find it a bit cheaper though.
Actually this is exactly the design of the one that has just bitten the dust so maybe I would be better replacing it with as close as I can get.
5.
Sorry, but I love bands like yours. It makes us look so much better. Promoters do notice these things.
The bizarre thing is we are not short of work, in fact it's the busiest band I've been in to date. We don't use agents or promoters. Have 2 monthly residencies then fit in other gigs around those 2 guaranteed each month to fill the month as much as we want to do, the in-between weeks tend to be weddings or other functions. Only band I've done 7 gigs in a month with (over xmas).
6. Cheers guys, think I'm going to opt for one of these; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HEAVY-DUTY-GS-TUV-APPROVED-ALUMINIUM-FOLDING-HAND-TRUCK-SACK-BARROW-CART-TROLLEY/350817236218?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222006%26algo%3DSIC.FITP%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107083358%26meid%3D5390485806519392535%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D20140107083358%26rk%3D0%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D360798255398#ht_1735wt_1203
7. After ten years of faithful service my sack trolley finally came a cropper the other night trying to get my bass rig up an unlit and pothole strewn side road into the venue. Short of a welding job I don't think I could trust it, having inspected it yesterday and I don't think it owes me anything. Anyone know of any good deals going for them at the moment? places like Aldi have them in periodically but not guaranteed to be in stock.
8. Funnily enough I dropped into a jam session to say hi yesterday as I hadn't been in weeks. Played a short set off the cuff through someone else's amp but on my own bass. Was surprised how little I sounded like my usual self. Getting a bit confused now.
9. Picked up thisTommy Shannon instructional DVD several years back when I was in a blues/rock band, worth a look. It was only £3 in the bargain bin in a music shop but there are S/H copies via Amazon for not much more; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tommy-Shannon-Double-Trouble-Bass/dp/B000RC1FDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394447373&sr=8-1&keywords=tommy+shannon
10. Maplins camera case like Matt P mentioned in post #20. Used them for years, hold together well unless you overfill them and strain the latches. Nice having firm framed boxes rather than something flimsy that can be easily squashed. Got pedals, leads, mics, power brick, spare batteries, tools, torch, strings etc all in there.
11. From about 2mins in, that's a real ric that is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVhaA98t8bs
12. I thought I'd read somewhere that Marr wrote a lot of the basslines or is this not so? Not particularly bothered either way tbh.
13. There are probably plenty of examples of player x being the 'official' bass player in a band having parts replaced by player y on recordings and nobody was any the wiser. For example I'm hard pushed to hear really noticeable differences in the remasters of the first 2 Ozzy solo albums where Bob Daisley's basslines were replaced (along wth the drums too iirc).
14.
I love The Smiths. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't!
I can. Morrisey's voice. Ruins every thing he attempts to sing on for me. Otherwise I might have liked a few Smiths tunes, in fact I'm looking at This Charming Man to put in the band's set. I can also recall the types of people who liked The Smiths when I was at college in the early to mid 80's. Shouldn't condemn a band by their fans of course but sometimes...
15.
Great band - I'm glad Christine's with 'em again.
Me too, she's wearing quite well for a 70 year old! Suddenly feeling very old indeed...
16. Still no set list in my lot despite me bringing up the subject a few times. Just a crappy scrap of paper of potential doable songs that the singer chooses randomely from how he feels fit. He's clearly not 'reading the crowd' which is what he always comes up with as the reason to not generating proper running orders and all it does it put the guitarist on the spot when he calls one out that he then has to change a few pedal settings for. Glad I'm not using effects or my midi pedals, I'd have walked long before now.
17. I've now put a 'best of Babe Ruth' compilation on my birthday list for April, was available thru Amazon from Canada for less than £8 including postage.
18. Been far too politically motivated for far too long, Wogan was alluding to it before quitting. Having more eastern countries now involved with natural sympathies toward those to the east of them that have been occupied by British troops has hardly done us any favours either. As it became less and less about music and less and less of a competition I just switched off so it may have changed, not seen it for 3 or 4 years now.
19. I would have offered my lot but we're already booked this Sat, sorry. Which pub out of casual interest?
20. I'll check out some of that early material, sounds good. Not sure how they slipped under my radar, usually all over this kind of thing. Cheers Happy Jack.
21. Never would have guessed Jenny Haan as BR were one of those bands that passed me by, the only reason I know of them is that they get mentioned in relation to Bernie Marsden but didn't know any other band memebrs by name. Not sure i have anything by them in my collection either, might try and get hold of a 'best of' is such a thing exists. Glad the gig went well, a decent singer up front is half the battle.
22. Well technically its now Saturday so I guess we did play 'last night'. City centre pub, not really a dancing crowd but we were going down OK. Suggested we try out a few of the new ones the band leader keeps bringing up but he baulked. In stead called out a number which we've tried a few times and it's emptied the dance floor pretty much every time. I told them from the off I couldn't see how it would work in the rest of the set but what do I know eh? this time as there was no 'dance floor' as such it just emptied a good third of the room and they didn't come back. Oh well another gig tonight (Sat) so ever onwards...
23. If she wasn't still active I'd have guessed Connie Lush but I don't really think of her as a 70's artist particularly.
24. Top one for me every time, always tend to go for rosewood on a jazz and the contrast of the pearloid inlays sets it off perfectly.
25. Couldn't someone just hand Chris his own bass back to him, tell him it's a C64 and he will just hear the ric in his head anyway. The 'bassebo effect'
