1. That's why I like using the ones I currently have, never even have to think about wringing that extra bit of life out of them. If they sound a bit dull after a few months at a fiver a set they can be replaced with barely a thought of cost. So far I'm changing them roughly every 4-6 months depending on how much gigging they have done. But I'm not a stickler for minutae of tone, I'm playing rock and pop in a 4 piece covers band. All I'm interested in is what tone I get from my whole setup (including strings) in that context.
2. A lot of bands are notoriously cr@p at communications at the best of times, I've just turned down a new prospective project partly due to lousy comms from them. It has clearly driven a bit of a divide between you and som eof the other members. However, if it has been a successful gigging band and you would otherwise have liked it to have carried on (personally I doubt I'd stay in any covers band more than 4 years but its all personal choice) then be cautious about throwing the baby out with the bathwater. The other band project shows all the hallmarks of being a 'last hurrah' ego boosting type of thing and they never last, a mate of mine did the same thing with a reformation of an old locally well know act and it lasted one album and seems to have fizzled out again. Once this nostalgia trip runs its course and they are back in the real world and need regular gigs again they will be looking to you to provide the bottom end again.
3. I've only spent this amount of time in a band without gigging once and that was because it was my first proper auditioned project, partly i didn't know better and partly it took a few months to just get up to speed with the rest of them who were seasoned players. Eventually after several months we got a gig at which point the main guy in the band declared he didn't really like performing live any more and we all went our separate ways after that one gig. Never again. As said before when you've been around a bit you can spot these 'hobby bands' a mile off and if gigging is the main thrust of your interest then avoid them. OP's band is sounding suspiciously like one of these. If you like them socially and can fit another gigging band in on top then that is an option but it will take a lot of your time up, if you want to get out there and perform and they are not into that then hand your notice in asap, it'll only get more frustrating.

5. Sat 13th April?
6. I've posted this before but I've been using these on all my regularly gigged basses for the last year or so; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-prices-Coban-Guitars-Bass-Guitar-Strings-45-105-Range-from-1-to-6-sets-/151063936837?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item232c1cbf45#ht_3856wt_1135 Sound like every other stainless steel roundwounds I've used but at a fraction of the price, can afford to change them after 6 months even if they don't really need it. Not had a duff set yet. Buy six packs at a time and they cost less than a fiver per set. Absurdly good value.
7. Played Sat night at one of our regular (every month) venues. New management, they definitely want to keep to the new set timing unfortunately. I thought it didn't work last time and I'm no better convinced now. Insist on us starting at 10pm and we finish set 2 at 12:30am. But it looks like they only keep the bar open until midnight. Result? punters hassling us to start at 9:15-9:30 like we used to do and half the pub has gone home by the time we get halfway through set 2. I don't see any evidence of them selling more drink under the new system at all and I'm half an hour later getting home. It suddenly feels like hard work getting through that second set whereas we used to breeze through it to a packed house under the old management.
8. The darlings of elevator manufacturers the world over
9. Wonder if stringing it arse backwards actually contributes to the tone?
10. Needs subtitles BRX
11. I thought this was a 'proof of identity' thing to stop touting? how do they match you up with whoever originally bought the tickets and it ID-linked to the ticket you bought? Would you really want to sit next to some smug bastard who you know has just made a fortune off your desperation to see the gig? (OK its always your own choice at the end of the day but you know what I mean).
12. So how much are the tickets folks? Edit - just seen the other thread now (though non th ewiser re face value) maybe we can merge these, Mods?
13.
Very sorry guys, but I am not going to make it to the event. I'm not going to be away with work over that weekend making it impossible for me to get. Bad timing. My apologies. Take me off the next list that gets published.
That means we will get three extra full size rigs into the space that would have been taken up by Shep's pedalboard Only jokjing mate, would have been nice to have said hi to you again, been a while.
14. I guess the point is that whatever amount of tweaking it required he saw it, did it and reaped the rewards and none of the rest of us did. FGTH never really my thing nor was the Stock, Aitken & Waterman stuff but they saw the possibilities and went for it.
15. Tried to pop into the kebab shop next door to have a look at the kitchen before ordering but it wouldn't work. Damn you Google!
16. Maybe his school fees have gone up a lot and mum's just topping up the coffers with a few gigs?
17.
Well it seems theres an audience out there for it Lol.....clearly it's in the early stages but i hope it come to fruition as i can only think of one band (Hoaxwind) doing a tribute act at the mo..... So hopefully we'll see in Time and Space at some point :-)
Wasn't aware of Hoaxwind, looks a decent act from the youtube clips. Might be tough to compete with them on their own turf but i suspect they don't get north of Watford gap much so maybe that would be the market to aim for?
18. That'll be the hot flushes then...
19. If you seriously decide to do it make sure there are venues that will put it on and an audience that will turn up to watch it. It looks a lot of work to get right from a look/sound point only to find it's not very sustainable as a working project. I'd go and see it anyway if there was a show near me
20. Always liked 'Into The Great Wide Open' from the later era too, good collaboration with Jeff Lynne at that time. Mojo's a solid album! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT8RnVm1k_8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0JwsooTM6M

Rush 2015
That was news to me, so thanks! I love Rush. They are my favourite band by quite a long way. I have been seriously into them since 1979. But I didn't see them on the CA tour. A combination of logistical issues and the outrageous ticket prices This sounds interesting... but would be even more "fan oriented" if they played some smaller venues where the sound was actually worth listening to!
I thought about smaller venues too but can't seriously seen it happening, would be a long long tour to fit in all the places in the world where there was demand or or a lot of people would just miss out. If they are really making it a 'for the fans' tour then they should have an online poll in advance just to guage what long standing fans actually want to hear and try to make a workable setlist from it. Some stuff just may be beyond them now (vocally) but it would give them a framework to think about.
22. To the OP, if you've not seen it check out the long TP documentary 'Runnin Down A Dream', gives a pretty full resume of the man's music career, especially with the Heartbreakers. I saw a decent tribute act a while back, not sure if they are still around or not; http://www.toopetty.co.uk/ As a couple of members are also in 'Fleetwood Bac' I think the TP tribute takes a back seat when the FM trib are busy touring.
23. Sorry if this is old news, not been around much over last 3 weeks. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/rush-plotting-41st-anniversary-tour-for-2015-20140320 Didn't go to any shows on Clockwork Angels tour so if they did a really interesting set list with a lot of obscure stuff on it from 70's I might get interested. Can Geddy actually sing a lot of that stuff any more though? When I've seen them in 'modern times' things like 2112 and Circumstances have been detuned, doesn't sound quite right.
24.
I quite like a weekend off, tbh.... so yes, use it to go and support a band. I hear many people bleat about supporting the live music scene round here but I never EVER see the most vocal ones at our gigs... So, yes, check out some bands... you might pick up something if only things NOT to do. And it always helps if the LL sees you supporting his place...and putting money back in rather than taking it out all the time...
What's your band? I don't think I've seen a link to it's website on here.
25.
KevB's gonna need one of those for his inflatable woman!
Nah, just use all the hot air emanating from band leader.
