2. too much to choose from by T.Rex if you want raunchy and heavy then it has to be 20century boy if you want chilled and groovy then try Cadillac (B side telegram sam) or mellow stonehead shoegazey >>> lifes a gas http://youtu.be/y24B8_YxtQY http://youtu.be/OjiNROf_U4Y
 3.
I have been having mixed feelings about one of my bands lately (the first link in my signature) and I'm trying to decide if I may end up leaving when we get together to talk to each other about it. I've played in the band for several years; we've had some really enjoyable gigs and recorded some things I'm quite pleased with. It's an amateur concern, as while some gigs are paid, when all band activities are taken into account we break even or less. I also play in two other projects, one of which gigs very rarely and the other of which can occasionally be busy though it's quite sporadic. When asked about my availability for gigs, I will confirm the earliest offer for a given date without giving priority to any one band, so short notice gigs (less than a fortnight ahead) are sometimes turned down. This summer I've had limited availability as my Father-in-Law had a prolonged period of illness and passed away last month and we've had to travel up and down from Scotland to England a number of times to care for him and my Mother-in-Law and to sort things out after his death. I had to cancel a couple of gigs at short notice the week he died, but what else can you do? The band keep accepting gigs when I have told them I'm not available and playing them without bass, which for our particular lineup isn't going to work very well. I have told the band that I'm uncomfortable with this as I don't feel that going out like that represents us very well and I would prefer to feel like a core part of the band rather than an optional add-on. If anything I would rather they used a dep rather than going out bass-less. Two members of the band have responded to this by saying how disappointed they were in my limited availability recently and that they thought I must be losing interest, and this is when when I've already made my family situation quite clear to them. We have already disagreed a few times recently over which gigs we should accept, as our singer believes we need to say yes to everything in order to "make it". I have no concept of trying to "make it" and just want to play gigs which I enjoy. We haven't worked on any new material in over a year and it appears that my priorities are not the same as the rest of the band. I'm fond of this band, so it's a difficult choice to make. Looking at this description, what do people reckon?
extremley unreasonable of them given that you explained your family circumstances and if they are not prepared to accept that there are some things in life that take priority over bands and gigs then fully agree with everybody else in that its time to find/start a new band as for your singers comments about making it ... im firmly of the mindset that if you dont have anything positive to say then its often best to say nothing, so i wil politely decline to comment good luck with the new band
 4. we have a small one of these which is often used as a montior just lately but for the purposes you describe might do the trick http://www.behringer.com/EN/Category/Loudspeaker-Systems.aspx?s=K300

 8. presumably apple are going to tout this little oevre on their download charts as all part of the apple/u2 circle jerk schtick how about this if they can access my itunes account well enough to place it in the tunes queue ready for download, then they should friggin well ought to be able to tell when ive deleted it too and hence knock it back down the chart listing accordingly its only fair

 10. still.... phwooooaaar eh must be from purley
 11. have you altered anything else which might affect your fingers ie your arm/wrist position on the body, strap height etc etc - they could change the angle you hand contacts the strings - and as Nige says try some practice routines slowly and see whats going on - if your finger contacts the string sort of parallel to the bass body then you generally tend to use the softer pard of the pad of your fingertip (ie nearer the top knuckle) which gives a much softer tone and a slight soft thud edge) - arch your wrist upwards and the tips of your fingers (ie nearer the nail) will go across the string producing a brighter more defined sound (usually the type of sound you want playing close to the bridge to get burp-tone) - hope this helps edit - just thought i dont have any callouses or hard pads on either hand and its not like i dont play a fair bit - usually at least an hour if not two practice every day) maybe it's a callous thing ?

 14.
Jeez - 1st World Problems or what???? You got a free album and to the best of my knowledge no-one has died because of it. What are you going to do when something REALLY horrible happens to you Like a Cliff Richard album appearing on your phone
you mean like this?
 15.
And I hope they both get a bloody kicking from it
now i would quite happily pay a three figure sum to queue up in a massive line at wembley stadium while U2 are in stocks on the stage as we all file past and hand in our tickets and kick their f***ing arses good hard maybe some nice lounge music in the background like tijuana brass band covers of U2's greatest hits
 16.
Great marketing move from U2... wonder how much that cost them..???
seriously JT? i think opinion is very firmly divided on this one and personally my take on it is 'how f***ing dare they' judging by the reaction on soshal meeja seems like they are going to alienate as many fans as they might attract - and personally i hope that the net effect is the former hrrmmmph
 17. how skilful is the guy on the band saw!
 18. It just smells funny but if it is dead then look on the bright side Gene youll have plenty of time now to take more lessons from Carole http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/gene-simmons-rock-is-finally-dead-20140907
 19.
We only get £300 for a pub gig but there's a band who have started undercutting everyone else and playing for £150 which is annoying every other band who have always had an unwritten rule to charge similarly. I suppose it's up to them but we feel that it's kind if cheating to get more gigs
Shops or businesses which try this tactic usually learn the hard way and very fast that this method is usually doomed to failure
 20. i have a line 6 bass pod which you can use as a headphone practice amp although you would possibly also need a small mixer of some kind for a second audio stream or if you have an iphone or ipad there is always the garage band / amplitube type solution?
 21. +1 for the stanley blade shave - very gently isopropyl alcohol and a decent microfibre cloth works well too deffo no soap and water
