1. has there been a thread before discussing how comes there is such a fundamental and distinct difference in tone between the two when they are so similar in shape?
2.
I said it on page 1 but I'll repeat it on page 2. If you haven't tried a Jazz wired in series you're missing out. Beefy.
is it easy to fit a series/parallel switch?
3. i dont have a P but i do have 4 J's
4.
Initial opinion - the rhythm section are a bit skittish. IMO.
too many where the bass drums and guitar are almost in unison but often not quite listening through the styles of the tracks would be fairly straightforward to come up with some busy but fundamental bass lines without duplicating the guitar or vice cersa make the bass take the riff and let the guitarist loose but on the whole not too shabby and bags of potential id say
5. well in that case i tip my hat if you can sing and play at the same time leaves me feeling dizzy just thinking about it
6.
Car is big enough but i also have half the PA and lights in my car
isnt that what singers are for??
7.
When I was using two 410s I got them both into a VW Polo.
such a tiny hole! well done you!
8. think you might need a hydrive 115 because the XL and VX TPs are only rated about 300-350w iirc ?? i use a vx115 with a hydrive 410 but am only using ha2500 head at the moment but it definitely does pull the extra power out of the head ed - what car do you have? i managed to get both cabs in a kia picanto and a peugeot 106 comfortably
9. +1 for the mahogany -1 for the beech
10. the ads i particularly enjoy rolling my eyes at are not so much down to the content as the authors oh YOU again! werent you lot advertising for a bass player 6 months ago and 6 months before that and 6 months .... etc etc etc
11. sounds very classicy sort of marcus doesnt it i love this tone - loads of crips tops but not too bright and masses of sub and drive without being too boomy (thinly veiled excuse to post some george duke) http://youtu.be/bUzu-5UcN-s
12. ive no idea been listening to bass lines since i was 3 years old and blagging it ever since
13. marvellous mister skank will have a read also this is related i believe http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/news/2014/07/29/the-cultural-value-of-live-music-from-the-pub-to-the-stadium/
14.
But how would you feel if someone was offering to do your job for free, or as per this thread, your boss asked someone to pay to do it just for experience - and they agreed ?
im with JT too but yes i do this for a hobby but because i am as financially strapped as the proverbial church mouse then for me it must also be a hobby which at the very least pays for itself - with the only exceptions being very occasional charity gigs but even most of those we get expenses
15.
Not really true . . . Bands happy to play for free and helping themselves You may think that's a bad thing because it affects bands trying to earn money, but is it really any different to a shop that sells stuff cheaper than its competitors? We have laws against cartels for a reason don't we?
but you wouldnt open up a shop and give it away for free would you?
16.
I have to say that I absolutely respect any artist who refuses to rely on their old hits. Any fan of Kate Bush knows that her approach to her art is based on a very personal concept of integrity and is not led by the idea of 'giving the people what they want'. Jazz artist who continually regurgitate their old hits are given pretty short shrift and playing the solos 'as on the record' woudl see them laughed out of a theatre. I believe you should expect what the artist is prepared to give. If you want the hits, play the cd.
hoorah
17.
People preferring some parts of an artist's output over others? Don't find it puzzling at all personally.
puzzling yes predicatbale no depends i guess if you prefer the short snappy soundbites or the long stuff innit
18. I find it slightly puzzling that there are Kate bush fans complaining ( for want of a better word) that she is doing 9th wave complete at the possible expense of withering heights :/
19. Riffy and proggy This should do it http://youtu.be/hTrCzYBQJu0
20.
Aye there's 'sex' in it....but really I don't think it's a problem to be honest. Stick with the first one as it is the name after all as it's already been mentioned
sometimes they are all thats left available after interweb scumbags snipe all the proper names
21. Stopped playing from about 94 - 11 so about 17 years and then decided to go out and get another bass and resume. After three years of reasonably regular gigging my playing is way better these days because the huge gap gave me plenty of time to completely forget all the bad playing habits I had developed . Main issue these days is lugging the cabs around and arthritic fingers!
22. And if you get bored you can alwYs have fun counting this... http://youtu.be/ASoUUKzgCG0
23. Have a listen to It Bites - the big lad in the windmill and Francis Dunnery solo material especially let's go do what happens and the recent Frankenstein monster http://youtu.be/-V_ECioqgWM http://youtu.be/WO3oGkbq0N0
