you can get the pre-loved - i managed to purchase two sets from this very website but they dont pop up very often mr wizard retired and just closed everything down but the designs and tools and jigs and everything were bought up on proviso that new company started out with a new name i believe - hot rods - so basically the hot rods guys are making the same product with the same designs to the same spec with the same manufacturing tools ps my search for the elusive powerful active jazz setup was rudely upset when i purchased a vm Precision and dropped a wizard thumper in it - never imagined that a passive setup would sound fatter and bigger than all the different actives i have tried over the years https://www.hot-rodpickups.com/jb-hammer-jazz-bass-pickup-569-p.asp -

Boss LMB3 if travelling light otherwise a dbx160a lives permanently in the rack case with the head - FOH guys always love it if you set it up fairly subtle it is quite transparent but stops any unwanted booming surprises making their way to the desk -
heatwaves on the runway as the wheels set down

The only local stores of note seem to rely on the music school side of their business two that come to mind in medway and faversham are well stocked but also have a very extensive teaching program and probably as many (if not more) tutors than sales staff there are a small number of boutique high end places but by their nature they dont seem affected as they rarely operate under the same economic conditions as the average high street shop

thats all well and good but whn you been stood on a stage at volume next to a drumkit for a while your ears will possibly react differently
-
no do NOT trust your ears... unless you can absolutley guarantee that you have no hearing loss or impairment or suffer from impairment at volume - whilst thankfully not permanent, i do get hearing fatigue ocassionally at gigs where pitches especially in the range open E to open A just start sounding muddy and even though my korg pitchblack is telling me im perfectly in tune to my ears it still sounds slightly off pitch)
