1. I had a RSB Deluxe 2 a while back which is very similar and had exactly the same problem, bridge pickup went.
2. Im assuming you've played one - I always had serious GAS for a thumb until I played it, felt clunky and awkward - but I'm sure thats just my cacky technique
3. Pound per watts I can't imagine anything scoring more than the tecamp puma 900? I've always liked a bit of headroom but I do occasionally turn round and look at this tiny box and wonder how?
4. For what its worth I play prog rock and 80s/90s covers, tried the Aguilar route (TH500/SL112s) but they didnt give me the 80s tone and couldn't compete with loud drums and lead, ended up trying a tecamp head which took me half there but it wasn't until i added in Vanderkely cabs that I had found what I needed. I guess its just worth trying gear until you say "that's it" - I think this months Bass Player mag will have a shoot out of a good number of lightweight heads.
5. I would love a fender precision from the 80s, that's when i started playing. What's the story with JVs? I remember reading about how the Japanese Fenders were outplaying the US ones back in the 80s (anyone else read Guitarist Magazine in the mid 80s?) and wonder if the JV might be what I'm after thanks Andy
6.
Thats interesting. Cutting bass to 11 is about the only EQing i do with this amp!
Likewise! Thanks for that
7. I too have a 900 with a Vanderkley rig, a 1 x 12 and a 2 x 10. Just gigged last night in a packed pub, played with my Bongo HH. I play 80s/90s covers and it sounds just great, warm and punchy and miles of headroom. I've played a whole ton of stuff down the years but I think I can honestly say this is my favourite setup so far (waits for GAS........)
8.
Did they play "let there be rock"? If so, how was the bass?
Yes they did, right at the end - good spot, it was nowhere near the recorded version
9. Brilliant night, Axl totally ruled but why is it that at these big gigs you can't ever hear the bass? There's just some sort of low end drone that maybe changes pitch every now and then - infuriating, particularly as I'm a big Cliff Williams fan and really wanted to hear those pumping lines go through me
10. Victor Wooten uses a B3 as well, there's pictures of him teaching his son to play bass with one on the floor. Continually amazed by what mine can do.
11. Defo

Zoom B3

It takes up a couple of slots on my PT-2. Swiss Army Knife and great to be able to call up patches as well have all your own pedals around it
12. MXR M81 has sweepable mids 250 to 1k
13. How much are you looking to spend? Bass Direct have a used Dingwall combustion for about £750 (I think)
14. Completely understand - I have owned a number of Fenders down the years and not got on with one of them - I think I was convinced that with something so industry standard it had to be my fault they felt rubbish, so I swore off them for good some years ago. But, whadya know I'm in RedDogMusic last week and I thought "those Squier Affinity PJs look nice at a nice price...." Tried one out and was blown away, great neck great sound, great build. So, I bought it and it hasnt been out of my hands since. Strange world.
15. You sound like someone who needs to find a compressor that's their best friend - by that I mean it becomes part of your sound and is as important as your fingers, adding control and discipline that you otherwise don't have. It's limiting in a way in that I just can't get "my tone" without my compressor (I use an EBS Multicomp that I've had for a long time). I got lucky though, it was one of the first I tried.
16. Could be that Ashdown amps aren't for you - has happened to a lot of us.
17. Trace amps are crazy good value second hand, you can pick up a 715X for £300 - over a grand new!
18. My instinct is that it's helluva bargain, well done!
19. Have you thought about a Hartke HD50? Has an inbuilt limiter and a very usable eq with the "metal" cones. Good volume and responsive, I use one as a practice amp and also as a vocal monitor.
20. Thanks Discreet, sounds like this is an amp with character, I'm sure its transparent and all but I always think an amp should add its signature, thats why i (reluctantly) switched from Aquilar to Tecamp.
21. Certainly has the look of a Peavey Cirrus about it?
22. For me it's simply if they are not getting played. I've never had more than six and have four now, all getting regular use.
23.
Since you like Musicman ... Custom order of a US-made G&L L2000?
Can you tell me more?
24. Thanks folks. I have a Novation Launchkey alongside the basses and trying to master it very slowly. Slightly wary of Spectors, have owned a number and although they are fabulous machines, I moved them all on because I just wasn't playing them (no idea why not). Definitely thinking about fretless but, again, the last one I had didn't get played.... Is Status is not out of my league at £1500, really fancy a Kingbass.
25. Yep, just like guitars (let's be honest here folks.) like all of us I love taking pictures of my rig before a gig, all shiny on the stage, got to look the biz.
