1.
If you say "no secondhand" you exclude many of the better basses that could fall within your budget.
Humour me?
2.
I don't understand the phrase "yearly allowed"! Looking at the gear in your sig I don't think you need any more gear. Even though it's "that time of the year"!!
Simple tbh, its my only hobby, i love bass guitars and im building up a collection slowly.
3. What if we set the cost bar at £1200 (no secondhand)
4.
This. Wal mkII walnut facings with an ebony fretboard
B@@@@y h@@l almost fainted
5. This may seem sad, but I find the look of a bass very important to how I play it, always have. Never been one for relics but I can totally understand why someone in, say, a dedicated blues outfit, would feel they can fit their playing in more authentically with a battered looking relic.
6. Basically a copy of Spectorcore fretless?
7. You got a great deal there, very solid basses
8. Some of you may me remember me posting in years past about my yearly allowed bass purchase, well it's that time again. Budget up to £1200, you can see what I have to date in my signature. Thinking about a precision type (but not a Fender) or a fretless, or anything else that you can come up with. Thanks Andy
9.
Interesting about the movement. All of my recent Class D amps had that issue (tecamp/Aguilar/GK) but the Darkglass has more weight to it and thus far has stayed put! I'll use this story when I turn it up louder at the weekend...
My Puma 900 came with a little mesh mat that stops any movement
10. My Combustion (not NG2) certainly feels thinner than my ABZ, thinnest of all my basses in fact
11.
The aesthetics of the Dingwall, and the concept of fanned frets, may unfortunately be something that would not be in the running for a player....obviously not all.
Like most Dingwall players that's exactly what I thought until I played one. It's an odd experience but almost instantly you feel comfortable and those pickups are really responsive. Horses for courses....
12. My M81is always on, goodness knows there's enough eq options in my chain but it just seems to nail it
13. I've no idea what it does but I got a Multicomp about 15 years ago and I can't play without it now, always on
14. I've no idea what it does but I got a Multicomp about 15 years ago and I can't play without it now, always on
15. I use a tube screamer with a bit of chorus, sounds right to me.
16. Is the GEB7 too big? Does what it says on the tin...
17. Ooooh this is fun Laney Linebacker 30 combo Carlsbro Hornet combo' Carlsbro Cobra combo Laney R5 combo Ashdown 300W head (awful!) Hartke HA3500 head Hartke 4x10 cab Hartke 1x15 cab Aguilar TH500 Aguilar SL112 x 2 Trace Elliot 715x combo Hartke HD50 Tecamp Puma 900 Vanderkley 1x12 Vanderkley 2 x 10
18. Try it with aTecamp head, match made in heaven.....
19. Worth adding Vanderkley to your list, 30 years of GAS and they've stayed the longest....
20. Any love for Affinity PJs here? I don't normally buy at that price point (listen to me, what a prat....) but I plugged one in in a shop in Leeds awhile back and was almost laughing out loud at how good it played and sounded, lovely construction too. £200! She is my "bedroom bass" now, think I might pop a couple of Barts in and see how she turns out.
21. For that budget I would be all over a Dingwall Combustion. The fanned frets DONT MATTER and the B is the only satisfactory one I have played.
22. Hi folks, looking for a horizontal wall mount for my vintage Ibanez Musician (some people hang paintings, I hang bass guitars ) Anyone know of a good one? Thanks Andy
23. Been after one of these for a long time, it's an Adam Clayton thing. Also Dave Swift waxes lyrical about them which is good enough for me. I wish I'd had a chance to blind test it because I wouldn't believe it was made in 1981, the active tone circuit is so impressive. It reminds me of a Jaydee Supernatural I had back in the 90s, though with a much better neck. Real 80s tone if that's what you're after, not one for shrinking violets. Very Happy.
24. Had the same problem, changed to a Tecamp Puma 900, problem solved.
