1.
Good for you! A guy that I sent to college with used one of those. He sounded fantastic, and really liked the bass. I however, can't get on with Warwick necks, and find them uncomfortable to play.
they change with era - early ones tend to be really thin. It's when they stepped up production in late 90s and 2000s the necks got bigger.
 2.
They are amazing basses. However, I can't help thinking that if your post was about p or j bass you would get like 50 responses so far.
probably! But only if it were sunburst
 3. Was playing today - DI straight through the PA, my IEM - and everything set up perfectly... (for once) and I love this bass - my Warwick SS1, barts and a silly ACG preamp, tone stacks... set then leave... blend control... set then leave... just move my right hand and I've got everything from big deep woody sounding, punchy P bass sound, naisal snappy jazz like burp and everything in between - just by moving my right hand up and down... To have a bass that is just so so so so so responsive to playing dynamics is really a great thing. Just wanted to share that, that's all. Bass forums are so often about wanting something new and lusting after some new bass sound (or just saying that Leo got it right second time and all we need is a Precision bass) and it's good sometimes to reflect on the really cool things that we actually own and use. 4. ...And make sure you've not the tip connector of the jack socket touching the edge of the cavity. That will lead to no sound. ... might be obvious but make sure you've got the thing turned up!
 5. Your warwick barrel jack and the ACG jack will (99%sure) be a stereo jack with 3 contact points. The tip is the signal from the preamp. the base is the ground - you might have thin wires in your warwick preamp going everywhere which is also the ground. The sleeve is the negative from your battery - when you plug it in it completes the circuit and turns it on. Unpluged it doesn't drain the battery. Have a look at your ACG jack. Even if it's got 4 wires my bet is that two of them go to the same place on the jack. The sleeve should be the black wire from your battery clip. Now the one difference between your bass and mine is the active pickups, I've got passive barts on mine. as you know your pickups need power... if you follow the instructions from ACG you've plugged the red power from the battery terminal into the preamp. You need to have that power going to both the pickups and preamp. The easiest way to do that is to put both the power wire from the pickups into the pickup. You've said you've done this - so I think it will be the jack wiring that's the issue?
 6. I've stuck a ACG EQ-01 into a 1991 SS1... so should be able to help!.... hang on a mo
 7. I think what's telling about Bravewood - is that give or take one exception - you never hear anything but good things about them. And people hold onto them, they're not that regularly available for sale.
 8.
It amuses me that I grew up with the perceived wisdom that 70s Fenders, esp 3 bolt ones, were shoddy rubbish and to be avoided at all costs. But now they're old enough to be considered "vintage" and are therefore desirable and commanding a premium price... How times change.
Was the way when I first came on basschat a few years back - now they command silly money. Odd.
 9.
Actually there are German built Warwick Streamer Basses that have neck thru construction and not labelled Stage 1 or Stage 2. I have 2 of them so they cant be that uncommon.
my guess is they are early ones
 10. Anstruther, Fife? Edinburgh is town sized and not bad.
 11. Saw a Gibson Ripper from the 70's on gumtree last night - in wakefield for £650 https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/gibson-ripper-bass-guitar-circa-1974-1975-for-sale.-made-in-the-usa./1202400480 doesn't seem a bad price if someone on here is looking for one
 12. maybe see if Rick's Fine '52 will give his tuppence - he's got a fine collection of very old fenders - and has made and commissioned his own replicas of them too. Me I would go for the cheaper replica... why? cos i'm not sure 3k of vintage fender would be good for throwing around a gig - whereas a bravewood or similar wouldn't be more relaxing to play!
 13. Bill Fitzmaurice Simplexx 10 would be where I would go
 14. oh yeah - I missed that!
 15.
Thanks Luke, good to hear from you, been a while, hope you and yours are well?
It has - been busy with other things and not around bass forums as much as I used to. Stuff at work and lots of DIY type stuff on the house which is good. One of the upshots of the DIY stuff is the workshop is starting to have more tools in - eventually want to try building basses eventually so threads like this are pretty inspiring.
 16. nice bass... link to spec here http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/0239-krell-5-for-sale/
 17. is it easier to play a string closer to you on an upright? or just copy a violin?
 18. Looks amazing
 19.
Bump. List price on these is insane....a secondhand one gives you the exact same package in a much more affordable form.
just looked! That is high!
 20.
What an odd post. Hang on whilst I drop into every other manufacturer thread in the forum and recommend people go buy a Fender...
Hey people seem to be doing that more and more without you encouraging them!
No point turning anything into a Warwick/Spector bunfight because what you say is fact... other than value! A proper German made 80's - 90's Streamer will be cheaper than a comparable USA NS bass.
I think both of mine cost less than a comparable USA NS bass. Plus the screws and truss rod is metric. Did my head in for a while when I had a US built bass and all the rest were German or Japanese!
 21.
What Luke said!
I'm not sure what is familiar about it though. Mind you if I wanted a Ritter I hear this one is pretty good http://basschat.co.uk/topic/244941-ritter-cora-4-string/
 22. aye - he goes by the same username on here too .
 23.
I've been very pleased with them but have nothing to benchmark them against. I'm sure I won't be but, if the UE900s aren't a big step up from what I already find very acceptable, i'd be really disappointed.
when are you getting them? Tempted to wait till I hear your review!
 24.
I'm about to invest more int my IEM setup now that I know how well it works for me. I started super low budget (I was able to find a workable IEM setup for under £100 all in) as I didn't know if it would be for me or not. Well it definitely is for me and I really love all the benefits of being able to hear everything (we use tracks fairly often and it was a revelation using IEMs for this) and I really haven't struggled with feelin isolated. I'm probably going to pick up some UE900s and have them re shelled and stay on a wired system until I can afford a decent quality wireless setup. My under £100 setup was a pair of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MEE-Audio-Universal-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B015S2I6A0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479726254&sr=8-1&keywords=mee+m6 One of these: https://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_powerplay_pm1.htm?glp=1&gclid=Cj0KEQiA08rBBRDUn4qproqwzYMBEiQAqpznswTwcQ1jOyOSgjbfoOIiS12dcRAe5VdTHKMwJDV5XegaAhJM8P8HAQ And a packet of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Comply-T-500-Isolation-Earphone-Tips/dp/B004HKIAIS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1479726938&sr=8-13&keywords=comply+memory+foam+tips I'm under absolutely no illusion that this is anything other than a super budget way around it but I have found it a really useable setup and I've loved the clarity of sound and fact that my ears aren't getting any kind of bashing. I haven't found a wired system any more restricting than using a lead for my bass. We have a Behringer x-air 18 so I've been able to control my mix from a tablet. If anyone is thinking of giving IEMs a go this will certainly give you an idea of how it'll work for you without breaking the bank.
hmmm they are the budget IEM my friend the pro tech guy suggested as a cheap option - for what I do trying work out if worth dropping the cash on the ue900s ones
 25.
With regards to MM tone - there is the fact that is MM Stingray is active and relies on the MM circuit. A MM pickup, even in the correct location, will not get you there alone. Couple this fact with a JB being passive, there's no way you can get a true MM and J in one using the same set of controls. We all know for example, that a filter system does not a Wal make. Similarly, the individual coil around each pole approach to pickups does not a Wal make. Even an aftermarket filter preamp and aftermarket pickup made in the aforementioned manner does not make a Wal!
What is quite interesting with the musicman preamp is it feeds the pickup straight in to the input stage and the volume is changing the gain of the output stage of the preamp. Most other active bass systems use a passive pot to do the volume then feed that into the preamp for buffering and eq etc.
Here's a scale drawing showing the relative positions of P, J and SR pickups. The lines shown represent the centreline through the pole pieces in each case.
Mine was to scale too, but that's pretty awesome
Here is said bass: http://basschat.co.u...ass-jmj-pickups Looks like the MM pup needs to go a tad closer to the bridge but it's pretty close:
I like that
