1. makes sense
 2. Or maybe I'm in the wrong Facebook groups
 3. But even the Facebook groups have few bits
 4. So anyone else noticed there are way less bits of basses to build bitsas with in the for sale section- very few bodies and necks- is the done thing now to buy a Harley Benton and mod that?
 5.
I am 50 this year & my wife asked me if I wanted a bass (not expensive) to mark the occasion. I have my Am.Std Precision in Olympic white / Maple neck strung with flats. I looked at the V4MTB only £248 classic look and if I put rounds on it, then I'll have the best of both sounds. Here is my question though is the body a full Fender body thickness, and not the thinner Squier type of body (it is a pet peeve of mine). And what is the weight like on these? Does anyone here own one and is the neck pocket thickness the same as a MIM/MIA Precision? I don't want her to spend a lot on a bass, that may not get used as much as my Am.Std. Just thinking as well how wide is the nut on this bass? Thanks in advance
If I were spending that kinda money on a new bass I would look at the Yamaha BB424 - lovely things and good value for money. Maybe not that classic look though if that's your thing. Secondhand... the world starts to become a more interesting oyster.
 6.
Sometimes I hear comments about the weight of these basses. These basses are built like a brick outhouse and the machine heads weigh about 2lb a set. If weight is an issue to any potential buyer they should know that a set of lightweight tuners will knock about 1lb off the weight.
the thing is that this example isn't that heavy - about 9lb to 9.5lb according to the luggage scales. Maybe I should weigh it better - but it's really not more than you would expect for a similar fender. Took it to practice last night and will be using it on Sunday - sounded nice, as you said I'm a bit daft to sell - but the money will let me buy something else... if that doesn't happen, well that doesn't happen
 7. Learned on a passive bass, if it was good enough for Jaco... then... Oooh look at this new thing, some people on this forum say this thing is amazing I must sell off all my basses to have just active basses... then... Don't like active basses - not for me, going back to simple passive 4 strings, leo got it right... then... Ooh look a 5th string, some people on a forum say I should try it. I'm going to sell all my 4 strings and replace them with 5 - they mostly are active then... ooh look new bells and whistles preamps from East/ACG/Aguilar/Glockenklang/Ebay, people rave about these, I'm going to fit them on all my basses then... Don't like active basses - not for me, going back to simple passive 4 strings, leo got it right... repeat ad infinitum ....
 8.
It's none of my business but unless you need the cash I'd hold on to this, or at least sell it for a realistic price
you may have a point there.
 9. PMs replied to - had a few questions about cash price... so had a think and dropped the asking price... winner for you!
 10.
I have the GLD80 - no excuse for poor monitor mixes then! The ME1s are great little units too (alas I don't have any but have tried them - don't really lend themselves to wireless use)
we do our own mixes - the problem is it's post gain and eq on the board - so if the room eq needs much eq then it changes dramatically in my ears - ideally I would have a tiny bit more control over my sound
 11. The problem is with digital desks is it is so easy to do drastic eq that on a physical control would be moving it towards the edge of its travel - digital it's harder to be subtle is you're not so expert in what you're doing - that's my theory anyway
 12.
Qu - range of Allen and Heath digital mixers.
ahh GLD 80 I think it is and we have the ME-1 units. It's a church. The compression and EQ is really really good - the PA team's ability to use it less so...
 13.
The mix will balance out over time, with every time you use it, the amount of tweaking between playing will get less and less. Presume that you are on a QU? Remember, you have compression and EQ available, so make use of it to help you hear what you need... but as you state, make sure the fit is good in your ears as a starting point.
QU?
 14.
I Have the 79 model of this but it has the 1200 on the headstock but that dosent matter as this bass is solid, plays like a dream and has the most beautiful sounds, like you say a bit like a P but with steroids if you know what i mean. anyway whoever buys this will certainly not be disappointed. First class build quality. GLWTS
cheers brians brew - it certainly is a good bass. As I said, not sure how to value this so up for any cash offers and/or trade offers. Would love to sell to raise the money for something else but feel free to try me.
 15. Aye, I was at work, and lunch ended so couldn't type more... Sounded great - the bottom end wasn't amazing so need to work on how well they fit, but everything was there and audible. If anything it made me realise all the mistakes of my playing - the shock of hearing everything - combined with the first time with a new drummer meant it wasn't a stressless experience - but for the first time ever I could hear everything. We have the Allen and Heath setup which lets you do your own mix, and as normal its fairly hard to get the mix sounding balanced. But everything also was a lot quieter in my ears.
 16. Used them at practice last night - freakingly i could hear everything!
 17. Withdrawn So not 100% about moving this on - it's a brilliant instrument which I love playing - it also has found itself sat under the bed more and more - my main bass can sound similar enough, and the idea of moving it on and finding something that will get played more appeals to me... So what is it? Yamaha BB1200 Made in Japan in 1977 - the first year they made them, it's got a slightly unusal early headstock logo without any model name. Through neck - as far as I know Maple body and neck with walnut or mahogany laminates Ebony fretboard with oval inlays Reverse P pickup Volume and tone knobs - slight crackle as you might expect with a 39 year old instrument - not enough to bother me live, and contact cleaner would probably sort it out. Big old bridge - apparently with a block of brass underneath. (never looked myself) Overall in good but used condition, frets fine, odd dink and knock on the body - it's been played. Weight about 9-9.5lb according to our luggage scales with the strap - if weight is a biggie to you I'll go find some other scales. Original hardcase - in well used condition. Original unattached pickguard Original screwdriver and truss rod tool. Truss rod tool is split so there's a newer truss tool in there too. What does it sound like? Well a little bit like a precision, but also nothing like a precision - it has more sustain, the attack of the note is different - the closest other bass I've tried to how this sounds is an Alembic I tried... in my head it's a cross between the two. How much? So I've been trying to work out what these go for and prices seem to veer between silly cheap, and three times that uber expensive. There's not many of them around so it's hard to work out. I've stuck it midway in value, which is how much some Yamaha geeks on talkbass offered to buy it from me for. (They hadn't realised I'm not in the US) With the prices being all over the place I will listen to offers - but if everyone values this silly cheap it probably best for me to hang onto it, if that makes sense? This being basschat I'm sure there are trade offers out there, I guess, try me. Don't need any amps cabs or effects, ideally want something bolt on. Do trade and cash, with cash either way (I've not got masses to add to a trade so don't ask me for my bass and £3k for your Fodera!) Based in Farsley, near Leeds. Family in peaks, essex and Newcastle so transporting bass as part of family visit a possibility if needed. Will post (at cost) to UK and EU no problem. Outwith EU feel free to ask but more apprehensive about. Enough of this - most of you just came for the pictures!
 18. I love my gear ... but wish I had less hardcases laying about my house taking up space. Hiscox acoustic case is the worst. And while we're on that - 70s Yamaha case - just about fit across the back seat of a golf- why so long
 19. it's a bit nuts. I was expecting this to go within a few hours. Cracking prices on this (and the orange one also on here)
 20.
My UE900s arrived yesterday. Got them from Toby deals for £174.99 inc delivery but the trade off is it took 12 days for them to arrive. As mentioned before I've been using mee m6s until now. Initial impressions are that the UE900s are a big step up. Just a much stronger, more balanced and more detailed sound with bass that is solid and not boomy. Not as comfortable as I had hoped but I'm having them re-shelled into custom moulds at the end of the month anyway so a moot point for me. I'll update once that's done.
oh thats' good to hear. One of the slight things with IEM is it's not easy to try lots out! I went for the ue900s in my choice between them and the cheaper mee m6s ... sounds like I made the right choice. I found they're not the most comfortable things I've worn! What's the craic with reshelling?
 21.
You'd be surprised... even Warwick used them
my word! How do I check??
 22.
I know a lad who taught music beside Herbie down south. He told me a story of how one of the students needed a bass, and Herbie brought in the blue Jazz for him to borrow. At one point they saw the student with it outside, hauling it around without a case. One of the other staff pointed it out to Herbie who responded, "its only a bass".
of all the posts to ressurect!
 23.
Cool - would be very interested to hear your thoughts on them... as they could prove to be a very good introductory unit that would challenge the 215s and MEE M6s that people seem to go for.
have you tried the M6s? Our drummer loves them
 24.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
So played around with different size buds - the overall size of the solid bit are a bit wider than the ear phones I've been using so took a while to work out what was best. Two different sizes of the foam buds seemed best. Only tried them with recorded music so far. Played around with music off my iPhone and our Bluesound hifi. it sounded good... not amazing, but not too different to how the track sounded through the hifi. Nice sound - to be honest wasn't blown away. Sound proofness was pretty good. Was putting the hi-fi playing one song through the speakers then playing a different song through the iPhone on the lowest possible setting. so got out the ear buds I had been using - and stuck them in to compare... and suddenly the difference was MASSIVE. The bottom end just went, the mids got all lumpy and bits of the music were just not audible. Massive difference. Went back the the ue900s and the music came back! Looking forward to using them as iem at practice next week. Need to get used to the pre-formed ear loop and how they sit in my ears. So they seem awesome- esp at the price I got them at! (and also show how our hifi is pretty decent and i've got used to music sounding fairly well reproduced)
 25. So you know when you see a wee bit odd eBay ad- one where on a big money purchase you would avoid? Well the postman just brought me what looks like a opened but new, probably grey import, ue900s for £125! Looking forward to trying them out
