My collection (Fodera, Rob Allen, Celinder, Fender)

You need to tell us more about what you use each one for, how you find it etc -
I have a 2 bass max...works (quite) well!
what I used to have... Don't know how I ended up with 4! Oh and to clarify - if we had family it wouldn't be them taking my basses off me - more the lack of space - personally I find if its sat hidden in a case somewhere then it doesn't get played. Ild rather make a decision to have 2 great basses than have lots but they are hidden clutter that in reality I'm not so connected too

We've been decorating our house so all the basses have been stashed in cases for months now, still play - but not as much as ild like. So been thinking, I've finally found a "keeper" amp - walkabout is amazing and the scout cab is cool - if I need more cabs for something in the future I can buy more cabs. Currently I own 4 basses - 3 amazing ones and a homemade bitsa. While we've been decorating I've only been grabbing one of them. At some point we may want a family - and in which case space becomes a premium. It just struck me that I could quite happily downsize to two basses and be totally happy. Anyone done similar? And how do you choose? My Dilemma- My two "go to" basses are both different flavour of Warwick - but then loose that trad. Fender "type" sound...

Neither JV or SQ would have had a truss rod access slot. Need more photos to tell more

perfectly clean hi-fi quality amp for recording/practise
LukeFRC replied to zawinul's topic in Amps and Cabs
I did that whole uncoloured thing - hellborg pre into power amp into acme b2 All of the above are good... Glockenklang and barefaced big series also good. I've ended up with a Mesa walkabout - it's just more fun sounding -
Phase issue? try switching the wires earth/live round on one of the pickups?

if you go the DIY route (and I recommend you do) I've got a spare PCB for the 2 band pre ernie ball MM preamp you could have. I built one up with tantalum caps and stuff for a MM clone I made - sounds great. (though the bass hardly gets played)

neck relief make it straighter and raise the strings- and or check for a hump in the neck or a shim in the neck raising the heel of the neck a wee bit. ... or if you have got a fair bit of relief and have lowered the bridge to compensate... straighten the neck and raise the bridge...
There is something incredibly Anglo-Saxon about the inability to be happy for a "small" company becoming even a little succesful. Buy British in favour of American I say (and I am only half English). Endorsements have several forms, from getting your stuff free to getting a small discount. Nothing wrong here at all. Well done mr Claber!
I do wonder if BareAssFace Inc. from Pennsylvania or Dortmund's BareGesicht GmbH would get the same kind of response on here.....

Interesting thread - I've been thinking going from 4 basses currently down to two - just cos I don't need that many! The one I wouldn't ever sell - my 1991 streamer stage one. Was a bit of a dog and tried to sell it quite a bit back in the past. But Bartolini pickups, an ACG preamp and a Alpher bass fret job transformed it!
I can't categorically say "never" but the last to go would be my Veillette Citron. Everybody who's ever tried it has been impressed by it, great weight, balance and tone and most people have never heard of them. I foolishly sold the fretless I had, really regret this even though I don't play fretless..
that looks ace - and I remember you saying that ACG you've got was on your "keeper" pile too!
My 1990 MiJ '62 reissue jazz bass, had it since about '94 and despite owning around 160 other basses in that time, it's always been my go to. Over the years it's had a graphite neck, east preamp, stickers, pearl pickguard, etc etc But it's current version is my favourite; maple block neck with stripes and wizard GAFfer pickups; it's earned its scars well
Triggers broom/bass!
Regarding the earliest amps being made with germanium transistors, I think the Burns Orbit was though I don't know about the others. The inconsistency of germanium transistors must have been a real issue with those - I've played around with them in fuzz boxes and you have to test the gain and leakage of each individual transistor as they're all different! As a slight aside I was reading about Walter Woods amps yesterday, which would appear to be the first use of class-D and SMPS in musical instrument amps. I find it interesting that those are still revered for their sound today even though the technology was in its infancy at the time.
and the price they go for is staggering!
ICEPower, Pascal, Hypex and Anaview/Abletech as well as some of the Chinese Manufacturers, Connex and BoHoYo make really good modules. Reading the Connex application notes really gives a good insight into the issues associated with Class D.
what a great company name!
Hey everyone, I was just wondering what people thought of bitsa basses. I have a couple and l love modifying them every once in a while. Mine are below. Would they be able to sell? or are they just a personal thing. Also wondering if anyone has a cool idea that I could have a go at?
I've wanted to make a bitsa that looked like a Fender jaguar but wasn't like the stock one - what have you modified to yours?
We are visually oriented creatures, so looks are paramount, with anything and everything. Years ago when I was in the ski business Nordica introduced a line of ski boots that fit great, but were butt ugly, so even the very few who were convinced to try them on didn't buy them. The following year the exact same boots were reintroduced with a different name, and appealing graphics. It became the #1 best seller, not just within the Nordica line, but of every line.
did the career go ski boots - alpine horns - other horns - horn loaded speaker cabs ?

Putting a value on "bitsa" basses (blue flake stingray)
LukeFRC replied to Jimryan's topic in Bass Guitars
One of the coolest basses about there. Ild want it! Seriously though it's prob not worth selling. USA stingrays seem to be about £600 secondhand now and that will be worth "more" even if it's not as good... I love the bass though! -
I had a Warwick Streamer LX with the H/S pup configuration - and loved it - but couldn't get on with how it slapped. Or how it hung on me when standing. And I didn't like the oily finish thing or much like the colour of the fretboard and was never a fan of the spade-like headstock. The pup placement/height was also about perfect for finger style play. I've had any number of Fender Jazz basses ('75 reissue necks being my favourites) and loved how they slapped, but was often niggled by a constant search for a fuller. richer tone. Aesthetically they are hugely appealing to me - unless they have a rosewood board with dots, then they are one the verge of m***erdom. An Aerodyne I had for a short time was the perfect weight, but sounded like a Jazz after someone let the tyres down. I want a bass that marries the best of things I like from above. Light, rich in tone with H/S (or H/H and coil splits) that plays and slaps like a Jazz and looks amazing. Maybe something like a Clover Apeiron or a Status Graphite Jazz bass - are there others I don't know of that would deliver what I need?
I've been intreged by them clover basses the hybrid pickup is a genius idea - don't see many around though
thanks man. It's a really incredible instrument. I had to sell a few to get it - but I can only play one at once!
a video of you doing just that would be nice! would love to hear it
