you're going to be pointed to look at... Line6 helix Zoom B3n when you remark at the price of the Helix a bundle of top end separate pedals for the folk that don't recommend the amp modelling route a sansamp someone will pop up telling you how good their Behringer DI is. It probably is. the IEM thread and probably some others.

I was going to make a really off topic comment about the kinda gig that folk on talkbass play backline wise bare no corralation to gigs I've played or been to, or heard about in the uk ... but then I saw the topic had already detoured off topic

That's the 199 pound question isn't it? If it has a range of drive sounds that keeps folk happy then this box will sell like warm sweet bread-like products - if it has one overly baked in idea of what kinda tone it should be it won't work as well

Interesting test - on a passive bass see if your tone control reacts differently depending on if you're using the active or passive input on the amp

It's a big wide hairy Trace... I think the discussion you need to have with the other half is what is acceptable to keep in the house - something more modern and not as wide might work better

I picked up a Mesa walkabout 1x12 combo - sounds alright but importantly it's got green tolex, brown leather corners and a sand coloured grill so it looks good - the wife doesn't even mind if it's left in the front room. Now if I sold that and replaced it with a hairy black cab and head I think she would - regardless of size. I had a GK 2x10 combo for a bit and that wasn't a looker at all!

I'm on a selling group where the guy who runs it tried to have a £1 member fee and it all kicked off - I thought charging for groups was against FBs t&cs?

Similar - ever since I started playing I wanted one of those Status T basses - I had the money and went to bass gallery where they had two in stock... and left with my money as they sounded uninspiring to me.

I have "my bass", and then another bass (or two) which I can swap to try out all the things I want to try out. I've mostly tried everything I want to now. Recently I sold a bass I wasn't playing much and with the money picked up a bass (L1000) that I wanted to try. I had tried one out for 5 min while buying a acoustic guitar years and years ago and it had stuck in my mind based on the way it sounded and felt. It's now probably my number one... along with the old one. So I'm not moving anything on to try new things any more. TBH the "I want to try one of these" left on my list are all more money that I care enough about trying them out. Back a few years back when it was free to stick sale posts up I probably would have floated some of my current ones, but it's too much effort, just want to play the things!

I go and play bass mostly at church on a sunday, tried it in Lidl and it didn't go down as well.
