1. This is fascinating reading, very best of luck with your 'quest' I can totally understand your reasons for starting this project and admire your tenacity Have you seen any of the builds which Gail Yarron has shown on the TDPRI site, he has a similar obsessive nature, particularly in his Les Paul build, but he is a bass player foremost with a particular soft spot for Precisions Here is a link to a list of his build diaries http://www.tdpri.com/forum/search.php?searchid=7145695 thanks for posting this Rick Harry
2. Very very nice Good luck with your plan Tom, I know you'd give it a good home
3. Forgive me if this has already been done but I don't recall ever seeing it before now. I've just posted this link in another section for someone who was looking for templates for a bass build There are lots of them on this site along with loads of other interesting stuff, it's been updated since the last time I looked at it and consequently I'm now daydreaming about a Jag bass build Hope it helps someone out Harry http://www.gitarrebassbau.de/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6&start=0
4. Try this site, there's allkinds of stuff here http://www.gitarrebassbau.de/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6&start=0 the bass plans are further down towards the bottom, I've used the P bass plans which are named "comparison" and the headstock one too. Just print them off, piece it together like a jigsaw and then stick it to some mdf or ply and sand it to shape good luck Harry
5. I hate to get back to the point, but.......the poles on the Duncan MM pickup I put in my Blingray build were like that. They cleaned up fine with a bit of careful rubbing with wet and dry (used dry) try to follow the grinding marks on the top of the pole
6. Hi Jez, this will be scratch build #2 I presume?...............very nice job sir! I have read about and used superglue, not sure how good Titbond(?) fnar fnar,(Titebond) or epoxy is, but like yourself I did a fair bit of reading up on it beforehand and ended up just as confused. It seems everyone has their favourite method and they all seem to hold the frets in well enough. I decided in my case that as it was my first fret job I would use superglue and do just a few frets at a time. It worked out quite well and the only thing I will do differently next time (and there WILL be a next time) is to try the pre-bent fretwire which comes ready cut.......I found it a right pain bending it to a consistent radius. While I'm on, the build I'm just about to start on features a lot of wenge.......a wenge neck and fingerboard.....did you cut the fret slots on your neck yourself, if so how did it work out....any tips as I've read that wenge is quite splintery but worth the effort in the end good luck with yours Harry

8. Nice one Tom Will you be using one of your tasty pre-amps in there?
9. I wonder how many other well known sessioneers couldn't/can't read notation......Jamerson,Dunn? I should think in Pino's case his reputation precedes him to some extent and people employ him for his sound and style or feel and therefore give him a reasonably free hand at what he does, in the way they would if they had someone like David Gilmour playing on their track

12. The bloke in these threads is very resourceful, he makes tort pickup covers and just about everything else on his builds http://www.tdpri.com/forum/2010-tdpri-tele-build-challenge/202233-2010-tdpri-%24210-challenge-koelcaster-3.html http://www.tdpri.com/forum/2011-tdpri-tele-build-challenge/263848-oiguns-2011-tdpri-build-challenge-thread-4.html intersting reading even if you don't feel like having a go at it, you may be able to get someone else to do it for you good luck Harry
13. I PM'd Spencer yesterday soon after WWcringe and just missed the GK but you might still be lucky with the cab Good luck Sharkfinger
14. I've never owned a Warwick, sadly, but I do still have have a mint 20 year old Korean Fender Dg41s dreadnought and would highly recommend it It is as good as any American Fender instrument I have owned or tried and would hold its own In every way the with lower priced Martin acoustics Don't mistake Korean made guitars for poorer relatives, in my experience this is just not the case I would say try each one you come across on it's own merits but keep an eye out for the German ones which seem to represent a second hand bargain
15. I've sort of got one if you're interested It's basically an 1153 cab which I got without a head in it I slot my AH200 head into it an it sounds great with my 2103x as an extension cab
16. Lovely sounding head, I'm in a similar predicament, I have osteo arthritis in my right shoulder and it's no fun for me humping my Trace stack around..........until I plug it in!!!
17. Blimey are those 2x10" cabs worth that much, I'll have to think about insuring mine! Very nice sounding cab though, with the little drivers instead of a tweeter Good luck with your sale bump
18. Sounds like a cool project, didn't NIle Rogers use a plexiglas strat at one point? I think Goldfrapp's bassist used a plexiglas precision Did you read all of Scatterlee's thread on building his plexiglas Telecaster? He even made thebridge and neck, all from a skip! This should look awesome when you're done
19. Search eBay for truss rod wrench, a shop in Wigan are selling some, 6mm and 6.35mm
20. You might be able to save some elbow grease by steaming those last scratches out. Nice looking body by the way, when it comes to grain filling,Rustins is quite good and cheap too Good luck Harry
21. If you are interested in aftermarket pickups and electronics cloned on the Wal innards, try a search on Talkbass in the "pickups and electronics" section for a thread called "I won the Wal pickup on e-bay" At the end of the thread an American pickup maker called SGD Lutherie is making quad coil pickups and filter pre's emulating the Wal design
