1. Hi Folks. Some of you may remember a previous bass build ive done...... 5 String Odin, Multiscale, purple heart n so on. well a fair few custom builds since then, a company built, and now onto our second Endorsement deal, (this one being a bass), and thusly a build diary is ongoing as well.. it will be a neck through construction. laminated Maple and Paduk neck with Merenti body wings. Wenge Fingerboard, 32.5 scale with an offset v neck profile. black Hardware, pickups will be coming from his other sponsors and controls will be decided in the next few days. So here is a couple of images including a 3d render of what body shape it will turn out to be. (and pics from the other bass i told you about) Stu. [note to mod] - i do make profit from building, but i have not included any of my company details. its rare i make basses, but i do enjoy these builds, this is more of a side project (as it is essentially a free bass for the artist) that. and im to lazy to spam or even change my sig to reflect 'said' company.
2. Ok, its finally finished.. (ill health, divorce, new house, new workshop so on blah blah blah) but i found it kicking around and after some mulling over what i wanted to do.. its finished....
3. so i came accross this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aqRgDCjRZo&feature=plcp and liked it so much i went and got some and in the middle of teasting it out on a preiviouse build of mine. a 7 String Baritone Guitar at a 28" scale. pics to follow once the first coat dry's
4. Hi there.... So the question is basically, What are your thoughts on Epoxy resin on a fretless fingerboard? Are there other methods or fineshes to get a crisper sound from a frettless? Or should it be left alone for a warmer sound. Discuss.
5. Also. cheers for the comments guys.... if any of you are in the manchester area. i do a lot of jam sessions at the Flying Shuttel in Bury, once finished, your more than welcome to come and have a good ol play around with it and jam with the house band.
6. And a bit of body shaping later.... 7. getting there... now i'm moving forward...... lots of boring, routing and other..... well you know whats involved.
8. Hi There... So some of you may know or are following my Build Diary. 'I love Purple Heart So Much......' So i am now getting close to finishing (i say close, im in the middle of the final rough cut of the body) and now im getting to think about what type of finish i should go for. I want a natural colour. but very high gloss. I know there are quite a few differant methods for this. Most recent finish i used on another project was oil and wax. however. I want an even higher gloss look, almost clear plastic. What are your thoughts?
9. head finished... now for some neck and fingerboard shaping
10. so i got a little board the other day so i decided to move my room around so the end of my bed faces my little studio. the only differance is. i got rid of the small monitor and replaced it with............ this way i get to watch either sky or any movie i want in full 1080p in bed. aswell as mixing my music with ease. concidering the resolution is stupidly big at 2640 x 1600....
11. todays work. done and dusted... currently clampted to the head. ready for a bit of jigsaw action tomoz.
12. and this is what ive been working on for the past week. some nifty wood work to make a pretty face plate.... incomplete
13. hay guys.... as a gift from my wife she gave me the money to go and buy a load of gear to build my own studio monitors. (more to shut me up as ive been banging on about it for a while) anyhow this is more to do with the timber / wood to use. so i have all the bits i need to build my studio monitors. however. i have been reading forum after forum about design and what wood to use. i have setled on the design which is fully sealed with seperate internal boxes for the main driver tweeter, and 1 just for the electronics..... now my problem is what timber to use. some have surgested MDF at is will absorb alot of the audio vibration, letting the speakers do the work ( i tend to agree) but others had surgested pine, poplar, softwoods or even hardwoods to enhance the sound. now with an instrument, this is a very good thing, but for a speaker you just want pure clarity without any sort of 'colouring'.......???? thoughts? just so you know whats going in.... simple 2 way speakers, bass/mid is a kevlar reinforced 6.5", double stacked ceramic magnet, iron boron core. 2" voice coil. 35hz to 15000hz. high end, is a cone domed tweeter. round, nothing special except some nifty magnet that i dont want to try to pronounce. but is 10000 - 40000hz. a kustom crosover that an old friend at klipcsh sent over for me. with a cutt off at 12500hz. i dont the the technicals of this but apparently costs 200 dollors a pair? gold banana posts and jack sockets, re using the audio foam out of my old monitors. basically out sourcing these ive spent about £300. just in parts.
14. sorry for the wait. been busy getting married n such so not to much time spent on the build. back at it in the morning. I got the purple heart for a bargin from Good timber. 25 quid for 4ft sleeper size strip, rough cut, not plained. got all the neck clamped, slots for the truss rods done. and fretboard shaped, pics to follow.
