1. Hi Rog, I'm with Gareth on this one but then I have a Trace Elliott v4, so I'm biased! Havent looked back since I got it & miss it whenever I use provided backline. Paired with a barefaced vintage it delivers a huge, warm, fat & mighty sound! Buying new get a Matamp to your spec. Secondhand look out for TE v4 or v6, Matamp, Hiwatt 200, OrangeAD200 or a Soundcity. The only drawback is lugging it but the sound more than compensates, it just has presence. Cheers, Norm
2. No worries Happy Jack, A pleasure to be of service, if you find them brains can I have a cell or two? cheers, Norm
3. Hi Happy Jack, what are the internal dims of the case please? I'm going to get one for my Trace V4 head & am wondering if it'll fit in yours? Cheers, Norm.
4.
Guys, what you don't seem to realise is that in general we're not meeting these stars in a proper gigging environment. Even on those occasions when James went backstage to a show, he was only allowed in either before or after the show, and just for a very short time.
Point taken & understood, bluejay. I know its hard to get access full stop, so any involvement is good.
5.
It's got more value in the story to say its going round the country and celeb X from band Y is lined up to play it at Z gig soon. People might look out for it. We should be pushing for them to be playing it too.
this! My wife (not remotely interested in celebs or names) said, "what, they're not playing it! just holding it for a pic? Why aren't they playing it at a gig? surely thats the whole point of it? W#nkers!" Kudos to Rhino! Also Much kudos to all of you who are currently pushing this along with your commitment & time but if we can get more names to actually use the bass live at a gig the value of story & therefore the fund should both increase. All the best, Norm
6. Hi Matt, will drop you a pm next week, if its still available. we are in the studio recording for 3 days from sat, so wont be able to do anything before next tues. cheers, Norm
7. Thanks for the extra info MattyK. I remember blazers from the eighties being thumping good basses (& guitars) for the money & know they are highly regarded by quite a few on here. I'm looking for a passive p style as a backup/changer & am giving this a good hard thinking about! Might have to come & see it in the flesh & have a play on it? All the best, Norm
8.
Just listen to some 6 string playing....
:-) PS I do maths for a living, probably why I cant count properly any more!
9.
Will this be Scott Thunes? I know Silddx on here is a real Thunes enthusiast, so it may have been him posting it. Zappa had several pick-playing bassists over the years - I'd guess he liked that sound and sought them out.
Thanks botb, thats probably the fella. Will check out some of his zappa output tonight on yootoob, then it will be clear. Damn fine player! zilddx might be along later to confirm. cheers, Norm
10. Interesting bass at a good price. Couple of things though, the body colour appears to be a silvery grey, is it a stained finish or does it look grey because its on a blue background? Camera angle, my eyes or alignment, the strings look biased to the upper edge of the fretboard? D string looks closer to the dot than the A, larger gap from G to lower edge of board? Cheers, Norm
11. 13 hours kip? Thats not insomnia thats night shift work!
12. a long while ago somebody posted some Zappa stuff with a pick playing bassman. I cannot for the life of me remember the track or the players name but only the fact it was an ace bit of playing! Surprising to hear a pick player on that jazzy, jazzfunk Zappa thang! Hopefully somebody will be along soon to enlighten & refresh my fast disappearing memory? ;-)
13. yarp, that bubbly disco lick is a tricky feel to get. I copied what the Spanish lass is doing (sorry, Marta ;-) ) & after a while it got a bit easier, still way off but easier. She plays it very well & has that funk down! Good track, lots of neat basslines in Jamiroquai stuff, whoeverso is on bass but spesh Zender, he's the beanz! You'll have us all learning this. Going to have to practice hard before i unleash this as a rehearsal warm up, ha ha!
14. Just bought 2 scratch plates off of BigBassBob. Very swift transaction, items arrived the next day! Top bloke to deal with, a pleasure! Cheers, Norm.
15. i'm right handed but left footed. Ride (rode!) a skateboard/ surfboard goofy style, played footie predominantly left footed but worked real hard to get right foot better but never as good or natural as left. The only anomaly is shooting, give me a rifle or shotgun & I'll put it to my left shoulder, rh feels totally alien & uncomfortable. :-)
16. Now thats low! I wonder if he's ever brown noted himself! ;-)
17. This is a similar story to my band down in the south west, we have stuggled to convince landlords who are used to covers bands but after much pushing we are picking up more paying pub gigs with our brand of energetic groove rock (funky & danceable but with enough kerrang for the rockers). We are getting re-booked for more after doing discounted first gigs. Its not been easy but its starting to pay off. Good on ya Low End Bee, if the songs are strong & the performance is comitted & fun, it aint no barrier to punters that its new to them. Covers or originals? I know what I'd rather see! Good luck mate, Norm
18. Been following this with interest. Well done to you lot for all your efforts! I've got 3 gigs lined up early Oct (wilts/Somerset) & would like to get involved if its coming south west wards? I'm sure we could pass it round the south Wales/ Bristol/ west country BC community to get the numbers up? Cheers, Norm
19. Correction, 7.5 miles away from glasto site. Found a distance calc widget on t'interweb. As the crow flies or sound travels!
20. Can often hear whats going on at Glastonbury fest if the conditions are right. I'm about 5 miles away, could easily pick out White Stripes set from a few years ago.
21. White basses. Maple boards. Drummers.
