1.
Bollocks to that! Have a look Thwaite's of Watford website - they have a 'basses under £1500' section with a bunch of Hungarian basses and an East German Musima bass like mine.
Yep, that comment was partly for comedic effect with tongue firmly in cheek! The first 2 ads I looked at were 12 grand & 10 grand though ;-) Didn't mention the others for £500, ha ha! Cheers, Norm
2. Yes, it was great to try all the diffrent kit. I've just had a handful of haddock slapped round my chops by checking the prices of s/h double basses! £12000 !!!! Sobered me up quick sharp. ;-)
3. My mind has been blown by the double bass experience! Struggling to think about anything else at work today, must resist, must......... Woodinblack's white rockinbetter deserves a mention too, didn't get a chance to plug it in but it felt nice in the hand & had very cheeky checkerboard binding, lush! Phew :-)
4. Trace head was a v4 & the mutron was a q-tron. Would love a mutron but they'm very expensive! ;-) Jimrs2k's genz, fearful & status set up was full of grunt & worth a mention too. double Bass was such a surprising challenge, it hurts! Might have to have a serious go though. Norm.
5. I loved that 69 jazz! Only drawback to the day is I've got severe vintage fender & double bass gas. Jeez, I'm going to be skint for years!
6.
Cheers to Keith for arranging everything, what a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
+1 TheRev, having a go on your superb double bass has sparked something, I'm going to have to start saving!
7. Big thanks to the organisers, it was a fun event & it was nice to put faces to the names. Liked yorks5stringers Warwick Starbass, mojokes lakkie, jims status is a right slap machine & especially thor's 69 jazz, niiice! Had a go on the double bass too, that was a first for me & a blast once the shock wore off! Thanks all, Norm
8. only just clocked this by accident? Not been to a bash before but not far from me so I'm gonna come. Might not be there for 12 but will bring Trace v4, barefaced vintage & a late nineties stingray. Cheers, Norm
9. Some great stuff here & loads of talent! I have finally done a trawl listen to the lot posted on this thread. Been saying I would for ages, sat down & did it over 2 nights. Particularly liked In Tyler we Trust, Castrovalva & HMS Adriatica. Kit Richardson, Case Hardin & ATQR's are not really my cup o'char but all excellent none the less, top quality stuff. Enjoyed Jen & the Gents too, nice breezey pop. Will be keeping more of an eye on the share yer music thread in the recording bit. Thanks for the nudge xilddx! Cheers, Norm.
10. That's very funky! Even the clunking great t-bird style headstock is funky! Ace bass, wish I was rich enough to buy it. GLWTS. Norm.
11. Love my vintage & like wooks would not give it up without a fight. Running it with a TE v4 & it is gert beefo (Somerset speak for awesome). This is bargainous! & yes, it is light. So light, You can frighten your band mates by feigning anger & lifting it above your head & waving it at them hulk stylee, even scares drummers! To sum up, buy it, just buy it.
12. Phew, It was never that exciting when I owned the sunburst one! ;-) All the best, Norm
13. Thanks BRX & Burrito, Thats what I was after, experience. Very grateful to you guys. I had the feeling that this was something that required quite a lot of thought. I feel a band meeting coming on! Cheers, I will act on your advice. Norm
14. Thanks BRX, will give those a look. Have found one that will do 100 7" for about £450 delivered but no mention of test pressings, so will have to speak to them for details. Cheers, Norm
15. Pretty sure I've seen/read BRX has a 5er, gold top iirc, very nice looking bass & probably the only Warwick I like the look of.
16. Thanks for replies but I was hoping for a "we used XXXXXX & they were brilliant" type of thing! ;-) I've done the google thang & couldn't really decide between suppliers, much of a muchness. Any personal recommendations gratefully received. Cheers, Norm
17. Anybody released their own stuff on vinyl? Could you recommend a supplier? My band (Kohiba) are thinking of doing a 7inch single as well as a 5 track cd. Purely vanity but would be smart & a cool thing to do! Probably only a 100 run so not expecting it to be cheap. Cheers, Norm
18. That high stepper side to side move is not in the slightest bit camp. I shall be using it but only ironically. ;-)
19. [email protected] He puts on stuff at the fleece & the exchange in Bristol. plenty of heavy stuff at those venues. Moles club in bath, not sure of any particular promoter. Good luck with the tour! Norm
20. Nice work, fellas! Like the groove. I'm a sucker for some jazzy hiphop. Not really big on jazz or hiphop but blend the two & I'm there! Works for me, looking forward to your next tracks! Cheers, Norm
21. Latest band is all originals. We had a couple of songs from the main writers old band to get us started but have phased them almost out now. two remain as extras when we do 2x 45 min sets but for 1 set shows its all ours. Main writer often brings fully formed songs (he's a writing machine!) Or takes away jammed riffs, rehearsal scraps, my riffs & adds lyrics & we arrange in the rehearsal room. We are having too much fun doing originals to even consider any covers! Cheers, Norm.
22. Had a bright blue B20 back in the 80's. Neck dive was always an issue but mitigated by the fact I used to wear it so low it didnt have far to fall!
23. Done. Will ping some more when I can get on the pc's at home.
