It looks very similar to the Peavey Grind basses, only with active electronics. I had a Shine 6 string bass that was great, and I think Harley Bentons are made in the same place... Only thing I'd be wary of is that mine had to have a neck shim to make it comfortable to play, and this one is a through neck. If you go used you could get a lot of bass for the price that one's going for!

I always compared markbass prices with other premium products which cost up to double the price. Anyone who knows me would tell you how much of a bargain they were. As far as amps go I don't have any first hand experience with other lightweight brands, but you can get used MB heads at very reasonable prices. Personally I'm waiting for the right head to come along so I can get rid of my F1, the new Peavey MiniMega 1000w that's been announced recently has really caught my attention!

I don't really like Yamaha basses, but in the right pair of hands they are amazing sounding pieces of kit, especially for the price. Incredibly well made too!

I jumped on the bandwagon recently. Got it next day delivery and the quality is incredible. Thickest speaker cable I've ever seen too! I don't think I'll be having problems with this

Which probably means eventually they all will.

The weight increase would have to be due to the use of MDF instead of poplar ply.

I love Prosteels but they don't last me long either. If you like the tone you should like the steel Elixirs. Mine only came off after a year cause I broke one!

They've also got a YouTube channel where they review gear and generally have a bit of fun with it.

I've also heard that MDF produces a better tone. I'd wager that MDF is heavier than ply though, and probably less durable. Maybe that's why they're heavier now, and nothing to do with production being moved to Indonesia?
