I’m really excited about these. I’d love a 5 String to go with my much modified 2005.
Alas I cannot afford one. I’ll just have to hope the Specials are not just for 2018 and that some used ones will turn up in a year or two.
I just watched Pete Thorn's vid demo of the Beat Buddy.
Seems to be a great bit of kit. Not cheap, and of course there is the Pete Thorn effect that he could make a dog egg sound awesome, but even so - I think I want one!!
It can be.
I play in a music trust orchestra and I have no idea what I'm going to get. before I joined (about 9 years ago) I didn't pay any attention to bass reading (sax was ok).
I started to learn and not only do I not feel as much of a fraud as I did I'm also enjoying it far more.
And of course actual notes give timing information whereas tab does not.
A friend was trying to give away a pretty good sofa on Gumtree.
Free but collection only of course.
Guy comes round to look at it. Likes it. Says he'll think about it. He's only got a Punto.
Friend gets a call from the buyer to say he wants it. Lovely. Then says it won't fit in his Punto... so he needs to get a van. He the actually asks if my friend will pay to hire the van!!! When this generous opportunity is refused he goes off on one, swearing and hurling insults!
It was FREE!!!! Tosser.
Piano and sax, then guitar and bass.
I still play some sax but I haven't even sat at a piano for 20 years. My youngest spawn is currently taking sax lessons so I get a good chance to play on her instrument when ever I feel like it.
I still sub to BGM, mainly because I spend all day staring at screens I like to read something on paper.
And I like that I might discover things selected by an editor rather than only finding what I might be searching for on the web.

Andertons showing at £235.
That's quite a bit under the Origin Cali CB Deluxe - and if the suite allows greater control then the DG could be great.
I really like my Cali Bass but I would prefer separate Attack and Release controls.
I've fronted a few bands in my time.
The odd thing is I find it very easy when I'm playing guitar, but quite difficult when playing bass.
I don't know why - I'm a far better bassist than guitarist but there is something rhythmically that seems to have vocal and guitar fit together easier. For me anyway.
The complexity or speed of the music doesn't seem to matter either. I struggle with bass and vocal on "Sittin' on the dock of the bay" but I can nail anything Metallica related on guitar and vocal.
I hate my brain sometimes!
Funnily enough - one of my favourite patches is using 2 of the Darkglass models in parallel paths with very different EQ on each... but without any amps or cabs. Just using EQ, some compression.
Does the HX do parallel paths? If it can then I might be convinced to look at the HX.
I still love my Helix - but it's a rack and I cannot be arsed to carry it around with me.
It gets all the love at home. And the Helix is the only thing I use for guitar (although I reckon I've played about 10 mins of guitar in the last year).
But I want a small board to take out with me - when it comes to carrying stuff low weight and convenience wins every time!
