  1. Where did you order yours from?
  2. Jerry Barnes. He’s awesome.
  3. The more I revisit this thread the more certain I am that I will just have to own one of the new Specials. The only question now is 4H or 4HH Can the 4HH sound just like the 4H?
  4. I've got a TC Mic Mechanic and it does provide a gentle bit of assistance. As it happens I only use that bit of it when I have a bad cold. But the other bits - the D-esser, compression, and the excellent EQ built in is superb. Far better than on most pub grade desks.
  5. I love how the swearing filter swapped a$$ for donkey in this context!!
  6. Black. (Also - shell is NEVER the right answer.)
  7. The MXR is glitchy. That’s part of the charm. I have one too. Pickup choice makes a huge difference. It’s less glitchy when getting a signal from only 1 location on the bass. But it’s still glitchy. But if I want perfect tracking I’ll use a MicroPog or the BSW.
  8. I was fortunate enough to have a sax teacher (multi-instrumentalist and composer Colin Cowles) with the same approach. Academic study and artistic application in composing or performance (and indeed practice and rehearsal) were all taught as separate concepts. I played in a 14 piece sax ensemble and it was some of the best fun I've ever had in music.
  9. That would go nicely with my Entwhistle bass book.
  10. Never liked Bareknuckle. Impressed with the Nordy's I've had. LOVED the Aguilar 60s wind P I've got. It's thick and throaty and reacts so well to playing strength.
  11. If, as a white man, you want the freedom of speech to say the "n" word then you are going to have to deal with your audience having the freedom to call you a racist. Don't worry though - you can just decide to not take offence to that. And the venue manager will have the freedom to not book you too, because he doesn't want his establishment trashed. If you can't tell the difference between a black artist using a reclaimed word on a CD and a covers band of no importance using it then I despair.
  12. Thank you. The amps just made my "must try" list.
  13. Would you actually use the "n" word in a performance? An artist doing original works may well want to ignite debate, or make a point. But a pub covers band? They've just picked the song because they like it. They are not invested in the subject. It doesn't mean as much as to the original writers - and the cover performer cannot truly know what the original intent was. I can't think of much more stupid (within music anyway) of the chance a white man might use the "n" word when covering a song in a pub. Might get a kicking, might even get a conviction depending on what the rest of the lyric was.
  14. Kirsty MacColl regretted using the word "faggot" in "Fairytale of New York" and even when performing it live in the same year it was released changed the word to "blaggard" She never got a chance to re-record it as we know. I love the song, and I amend it as the writer did. There is a difference in preserving history as it was and actively presenting outdated terms as entertainment.
  15. Barefaced Six10
  16. The F1 sounds quite a bit different to the LM series. I had both. If I was buying again I'd buy the Marcus Miller version. The EQ points are far more sensible.
  17. I just read the review of the amp in the mag. NO FAN!!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO! I hate fan noise with a passion. @ryanowens does the bigger version have a fan? Your website doesn't actually say either way. It's such a big selling point for me that I always look for whether an amp has a fan or not.
  18. The new 2018 Ray Specials have an average of 8.5lb for the 4 string - but some on Talkbass have bought a few and found the odd one under 8lb! That's what I'm looking for. They land in September. A 4HH at 8lb would be a dream come true!
  19. Either enjoy the space not having the other guitarist gives you as it also gives the audience a break from the wall of sound, or listen to more Jack Bruce and move the bass part around. Cream never sounded thin. Do some walking - or play some octaves with the drums. 3 piece bands (or 3 musicians and a singer !) are the best fun for bassists. Enjoy it!
  20. Mono for me. I've got the Vertigo and the Sleeve. Very happy with them.
  21. I use them too. No problems, ever.
  22. I decided to put them on my PJ-Ray. As with every single flat B string I've ever used the B is a little woofy. But not so much as other brands. With luck it will bed in a bit anyway. The other 4 strings - lovely! the PJ-Ray has an Aguilar 60s wind P pickup and a Nordy Big J Blade. All passive. Sounds perfect for motown and Duck Dunn stuff. That will do pig!
  23. Does anyone care what non-players think about when buying an instrument?
  24. Why do you want a USP? Theres about 20 billion versions of jazz and p basses everywhere. The only USP anything has anymore is the name on the headstock.
  25. Sandberg did that years ago. VM2 model.
